I'm upgrading my braking system as the old R30 shit ain't cutting the mustard anymore.

Probably going with Z32 4 spots up front and 2's in the rear and quiet possibly using R31 bits to mount the calipars on.... BUT... here's my issue -

The 3 piece alloy work rims i have won't fit anything bigger under them as they are 15inchers so i'll need something bigger and i need some advice.

I'll be going up to some 17inch rims to suit the car, but, offset and stud pattern are holding me up......

Would like to go to a nice common offset and stud pattern to make finding rims a little easier other wise i'll get some made up.

So any tips on my project????

My car runs a 17" x 9" with a +35 offset with a 20mm spacer and they sit pretty much just in the gaurds with a touch of camber with r33 brakes (which are probably a bit of over kill and too heavy, in need of a down grade). I don't have any pics here on my work computer but I know I have post them up a few times on here before.

It is possible to fit those 4 pots brakes under 15's my mate bluey runs r33 brakes under a 15" with a 3mm spacer for just enough clearance.

if you put s13 hubs on the fron with coilovers then throw on some big discs and calipars. Then any rims

that fit silvias and 180sx's (over 15in) should fit.

Im in the process of fitting 32GTR discs and calipars to the front. Havent had a look at the rears but i do

have the rear 2pots to go on also. Not sure about rear mounting points and hand brake cable assembly yet..

Are 32 GTR bigger than Z32's?? might be a bit of over kill don't you think?? it's still a light car..

thes work rims have a pretty unusual offset (can't remeber what they are) and will pretty much only fit an R30 import. Plus they have a raised centre in the wheel which barely clears the standards brakes so i'm going to have to get bigger rims

Thats wrong, cause im using silvia rims on my car with silvia rotors and its doesn't clear them and im running a 17x7...Had to get a 25mm spacer for the front

I think they may be slightly bigger and slightly thicker.

Only using the 32 parts coz i got them cheap, so im not worried about overkill.

I said they SHOULD fit not that they WILL fit.

At the moment i have silvia rotors and calipars sitting under 15in silvia rims.

What silvia rims are 17x7??

So whats the largest wheel width and tyre size that will comfortably fit under the guards without flaring the guards or going too deep into the wheel arch?

I run a 17" x 10" on the rear, 17" x 9" on the front. Only have lipped rear gaurds, easy as to do without damaging the paint. No scrubbing anywhere and I run huge steering angle and a fair whack of castor.

Or of course there where these wheels I had for a bit. 15 x 7.5 -10, should have kept them.

a bit of dish is mean thing!! :(

i'm looking at something around 17x8 and 17x9 with a nice bit of dish in the rear

hey dude just run a set of standard r33 gts-t brakes all round

and you will stop on a dime .maye a few mods needed(i have'nt done such a conversion)

but i will i so home work and let you know :(

Alright heres how the situation looks.....

need some wheels first but i'll get that sorted quick enough..

probably going to use r31 front struts in the front and adapt the Z32 calipars to them...(apparently it will be easier) plus i already have R31 shocks in my struts at the moment... we just trimmed a bit off to make them fit.

just had new lower control arms fitted yesterdy.. made a nice differnce in the driving comfort.. but we'll probably ditch them and fabricate some nice adjustable ones down the line so if anyone wants some spanking new controls arms drop me a line... same as the local r30 and at $160 each they're pretty cheap..

anyone got a difference of opion here...? haha i know there will be someone..

Dave

What sorta wheels you after dave?

Something similar to what i already have.. kinda attached to this rims so i'll be sad to see them go.

17inch with a bit of dish to it and 5-7 spoke.. been looking at some work rims that look pretty nice..

    • Totally equivalent. Stock often goes from the comp cover because that's where the actuator is also installed and the factory needs 2" of hose to make the connection - and it comes as a pre-assembled unit. They totally have a boost reference from somewhere between the turbo and the throttle(s). Oh, jeez. Just do it in M12 then. We don't actually care that much. I would expect any such AN converter fitting to rely on an o-ring or some other seal onto a flat surface under the flange of the hex**, because bolt threads are no intended to provide a pressure seal. unlike..... pipe threads. **which also requires a suitably flat and smooth surface on the turbo's boss to provide the seal.
    • I also used NP   That’s were it’s seems to be the best place to fit it? All schematic shows also that it’s should be referenced from the turbo housing. But idk, I do see high hp cars without any connection or anything to their turbos, so I really don’t know how they connect their things
    • I do have loctite 243 and 246 and a few more models. I could drill it now in place and make new threads for m12 and order an4 - m12 coupling and fit that to the turbo. Run a braided hose to the EBC which I could get a an4 to 1/8npt
    • So M12 and sealant should be fine?    NPT ” because that’s what I had and what I could get atm.
    • Wouldn’t touch par if they gave it to me. You need to ask how much power you’re looking to make and then add about 50% to it because that’s what you’ll end up making  The factory box says no more at about 350kw or so, the upgraded synchro boxes won’t handle much over 500kw for long and at that point you’re looking at an auto or dog engagement manual,  once you’ve gone dog engagement you may as well go sequential, they cost a little bit more but it’s worth it  also while you’re at it you should upgrade the transfer case with 10 friction plates
