I had a quick look at doing that when I was going to buy an R33

and it didn't look too difficult. I think to do it properly the battery might need to be moved over a bit and you could replace the front boot-trim with a carpeted MDF panel with the sub-box behind it. You would need a hatch in it to access the battery. You could also flush mount an amp behind it.

In my R32 which is similar but without the battery I'm making a sub-box that mounts onto the metal panel that seperates the boot from the backseat. The 10" sub mounts through the panel and fires through the armrest hole in the back seat.

This type of setup won't go very loud because you don't get the benefit of bass-loading the same way you do if you fire the sub backwards into the boot but it is good for a sound quality system.

I see no reason why it wouldn't work in a 33 but if you want bang for your buck a single 12" facing backwards would be easy.

Thnks guys,

I have 2 10 inch pioneer free air subs at the moment left over from a project a year or so ago. As i dont need an extremely loud system i was thinking of just installing one of these subs facing backwards out of the battery compartment. Didnt want to move anything at this stage (or construct boxes).

Anyway thanks for the input.

  • 4 weeks later...

i built a sub box for my 33 that fits into the area thats free next to the battery and fuses and potrudes out off the rear tunnel about 130mm and finishes off and can still fit a hsv bag in the boot with no hassles if you need photos email me at [email protected]

I'm looking at getting a 10" subbie and using this space for the placement...

i had a 12 inch pioneer in my 33 in a box facing left to right of the boot, it kicked ass man...if you put it in the battery area it wont sound as good, poor sound qualities and obstructions.

Could you install a divider wall to shield the battery / electrics from the sub? You'll get less obstruction this way

If you're handy with fibreglass you can easily mount a small sub next to the battery. We do it all the time with Skylines and Soarers.

As for effecting sound, your subwoofer should be crossed over quite low (around 100hz). At this frequency the sound will not be noticealbiy effected at all. Remember the front speakers are the ones that have the important task of creating and reproducing the 'body' of the music. The subs simply fill out the lower end of thre sound spectrum. :(

    • Agreed, I've never seen a 260RS specific manual. As GTSBoy said it will mostly be stagea other than the engine loom https://www.hgeconsulting.com.au/stageaservicemanual.pdf
    • You'lll likely have to make do with R33 GTR for engine/tranny stuff, and Stagea for the body. I don't know that there's even been an actual diagram seen in the wild.
    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
