have just started looking into this myself, amy ideas great, but as far as i can tell at this point there is a rubber hose that goes into the intake pipe, this is wher the engine oil vapour is sent, unplug that pipe and connect it to catch can, the pipe from can to the intake pipe.

make sure if you get a catch can to be sure it has baffles or steel wool or the like inside so it actually liquifies the vapor

hey abu, thanks for that link..but i didnt really answer my question..

i just want to know which pipe to connect the catch can too..there seems to be two places i can connect on the catch can..

but on the rb25det rocker cover..theres 1 on the inlet-manifold side..and two hose coming out on the exhaust manifold side..

so wer do i connect the catch can hoses too and from..

any ideas..or any pics of someones setup?

Dear OP,

The device your referring to can cost as little as $50, plus as you own an RB25DET (This most common form of Skyline propulsion) should give weighting to the fact that quiet possibly, this question may have been answered before on a 6yo forum dealing with Skylines.

Entering "oil catch can" into the "search" field, produced 32 pages of results. Sorting by "number of replies" theoretically would show the most popular topics first.

SAU should be seen as a library, where you look for info, more so then a Q & A session.

Hey dood,

Nature always tries to equalize, from one extreme to another, be it heat or particulates suspended in liquid. So osmosis, or equalization of a concentration through a semi permeable membrane... (tea through a tea bag into hot water, or water through your kidneys, 02 and C02 through aveoli in your lungs) or hot air from one room to another etc.

When the cylinder charge burns, some gas leaks past the piston rings into the crankcase, that's called blow by. Clearly engines work cus the pressure in the cylinder is higher above the piston then below is, so the piston moves down. Having pressure from blow by below the piston, in the crankcase then lowers the pressure differential, decreasing performance and causing issues with blowing out seals, dip stick etc etc.

The factory setup has a pipe from the cam cover to the intake pipe, then when under boost ingests the blow by, creates a little vacuum under the piston, increasing performance slightly.

On the over run, or when you back off the accelerator and the revs are dropping, a small one way valve opens and suck the blow by from the crank case as well. The one way is there, so when on boost, pressurized air doesn't go back into the crank case.

People remove the cam cover to intake pipe connection, as older cars have more blow by, and ingesting and burning these "already burnt oily gases" lowers the quality of the in cylinder combustion. This why you see ppl use filters on the cam covers (V8's) and just bleed that blow by to the atmosphere. This is illegal though, as the blow by is technically combustion gases that haven't gone through the cat.

Aftermarket, people use a container (oil/air separator) full of stainless steel wool, and route the gases through that, and then have a filter on the oil/air separator (which technically isn't legal either)

Keep in mind that in the stock setup, when on the over run, the PCV valve opens and wants to ingest air from the crankcase AND from the stock pipe to the intake pipe. Seeing as there's already vacuum in front of the turbo, and the pipe is "behind" the AFM, the PCV is ingesting air that's ALREADY BEEN METERED by the AFM… so AFR's stay the same, the ECU doesn't get confused. The issue is when people leave pipes open, or what not and the PCV pulls air from effectively a "leak"

Hope this makes sense. Search SAU, been covered many times, with lots of pictures and theory how people setup after market setups. Once you know what's going on, make sure your setup, is setup correctly otherwise you'll be stalling etc.

    • Just as a thought, if it's in neutral, thats your drive line disconnect, not the clutch. Clutch slip at the dyno with pedal fully out, is actually adding a second disconnect. So it's not a clutch issue if you're in neutral. Just a bit of friction dragging the output around while in the air.
    • The HG high flow is excellent, and costs about the $$ you're talking about. But it, and probably every other highflow, uses a diffeent core than the original turo, and the original Hitatchi core is quite long. So, I think it is inevitable that there is likely no such thing as a highflow that just "bolts on" with no other effort required. And the same is likely true for HG's outright replacement "bolt on" turbos (the ATR things). And the same is likely true for anything similar from elsewhere. I have no idea if the cheap Chinese/Taiwanese complete turbos from eBay/Temu/etc are as bolt on as they claim. I mean, they claim the bolt onto the NAs as well as the turbos, and we know that can't be "bolt on". But it wouldn't matter because I'm not buying a $169 4 psi turbo for anything other than a paddock basher.
    • Bummer...yeah i "need" something to "ease" up the work and for my driving it would be enough.    Iam counting the tune "without" turbo. I do not mean "cheap" like something from Temu around 200 USD, "Cheap" is something around 1000 USD? 
    • Starter motors used to use the weight of metal (magnets) to provide torque. Now they use (more) current instead. This. It's completely normal.
    • So thing that had me stumped, but I think is OK....is that when it was up in the air, in neutral I had it running to bleed to coolant while I put the wheels back on. I noticed the rears were turning (slowly) which I'd never seen before 20250928_163512.mp4     Because there had been an issue with clutch slip due to pedal adjustment on the dyno, I assumed there was still and issue so spent some quality time upside down under the dash adjusting the pedal....but no matter what I did the wheels still turned in neutral. Even disconnected the master cylinder to pedal rod and same. In despair, I even removed the clutch slave so there was no chance of any preload causing it.....still happened. So either: 1. Something is not right in the bellhousing, or 2. Its a thing sometimes with cold, thick gearbox oil Internet says it might be 2, I hope so!
