for a 2L engine they dont spool up turbo's very well

compared a RB20 to another 2L engine such as a SR20 and the SR20 is alot more responsive

if ur going to use a HKS 2835 i would highly recommend a .61 exhaust housing

if u cant get ur hands on the HKS .61 exhaust housing the garrett .63 exhaust housing will also fit

chuck on the big housing and let it rip
through it on and see

Ive got a feeling it will be on song by 4,000rpm

start making boost about 3-3.5 rpm

If you've got the gear to fit the 0.72 straight up, then give it a run. Don't aim to make the RB20 a low-down torque monster because it will just strangle things up high, where it should be able to shine. Search for threads/posts by Roy regarding the RB20 and turbo specs. Set up, and drive it for what it is - ie. not a RB25, or an SR20. :)

Sounds like you have an oddball pair of housings - Pro and Pro S perhaps? Some of them don't have the T3 flange, depending on the job they were intended to bolt up to. Might be worth checking that aspect, and post some pics if you can. Always interested to see how the HKS castings look.

yep is a pro s with a .72 'GARRET' rear housing, your right, 20's are so slow down low even with standard turbo, im gonna chuck it on an see how it goes, an if not ill put the .68 on, cant hurt in trying, if its on full boost by 4 ill be happy, keep you posted guys, cheers

The fact of the matter is that Garrett don't make a proper turbine housing for that turbine - in any form .

The one they do sell with the T28 flange is a bean counters botch job , bored out GT28 turbine housing that was not designed to work with a GT30 based turbine . Don't let the term "GT2835" fool you because there is NOTHING remotely GT28 about that turbocharger .

The "GT2835" Pro S turbos work best with HKS's housings - period . To use anything else IS a compromise not aimed at power or response .

If you want the best from it use your 0.68 A/R HKS housing because it was designed for your application .

I know it means another dump pipe and thats because their housing/dump combination works better than Nissans original system .

If the 0.71 A/R housing is what I think it is then it's a sort of copy of the Hitachi OP6 or single bb turbo VG30 - sort of .

GT30 based turbines will always give their best results when used in a GT30 based turbine housing .

IMO the HKS Pro S GT30 housing would have less restriction than the other probably aftermarket one even if its A/R number is lower .

A good example is this , Garrett's 0.86 A/R GT28 turbine housing won't outflow their 0.63 A/R T3 one . The A/R number is relevant to the turbine family that the housing is made for - nothing else .

Anyhow I'd use the HKS housing because its a known quantity and designed for the purpose .

Cheers A .

    • Not really, but the heater box is pretty simple mechanically....if the door is one way the air bypasses the heater core and if it is the other way it goes through it for warm air.  If you are sure the actuator you moved manually is for the heater mix (there would also be one for output air direction) then I'd take the heater box out and see what is happening (you'll have to regass and re-coolant the systems afterwards) BTW pp724 onwards from the GTR workshop manual cover the system in good detail, it is probably worth checking. I think the IAT sensor might be a problem electrically for getting cold (if you got 24 error code not -24 it thinks the incoming air is -50c) and it covers how to test the sensor (although most likely it is either not plugged in or a wire is damaged)
    • Use the GKTech subframe bush and bring your subframe 10mm closer to the chassis. You'll need to fix an exhaust hanger to suit. One of the best mods I've done.
    • You'd really have to pull it apart further to know, it least you can be confident that the one heading to the back is not connected any more. There was once a ground on the shifter seal mount too, your head unit issue could be that simple
    • Perfect, I'll get to it this winter then at the same time as I weld on my anti squat kit.
    • Alright so my 32 only has one temperature no matter what degree you set it to. I’ve tried disconnecting the servo motor arm and moving it either direction and got no change. I’ve fixed the leak in my AC and re charged it and with it on and clutch engaged it still blows hot even though the low pressure pipe going to the firewall is ice cold. Both heater core hoses are hot while running as well. Diagnostic code showed 24 for intake air temperature sensor. Anybody got any ideas?
