Hi, I have been recommended by my workshop to go for a GT25 440HP turbo to achieve the horsepower I am chasing (around 320rwHP) and the 'seat of the pants' torque I am chasing.

I am not so much after a dyno comp winner, but something that comes online not too late (a litte lag is cool, like 4000-4500 for full boost) and really punches hard as I hate the stock turbo - my old WRX with a VF22 pushed MUCH harder.

Anyone used one of the GT25's (internally wastegated model) on an R33? Any comments?

I originally was thinking the GT30 with a TO4B housing, but my mechanic has done several R33s with this setup recently and is getting 320rwHP with 13PSI with stock computer (pretty awesome in my opinion!) and its not laggy.

Ta

Conrad

hey

i am currently about to put the same turbo on my RB20 and around 320rwhp was what i am chasing also. I know a guy with one of these turbos on a CA18 that hits 1bar @ 4200rpm. I was hoping on an RB20 it would hit 1bar by 3900-4000rpm and I would expect it would hit 1bar on a rb25 by 3700rpm (this sound right?).

Anyone else put one of these turbos on a RB20/25?

Thanx

Evan

I went for a drive in a 180 with an RB25 and GT30... very impressive and suprisingly good throttle response. There was nowhere near enough lag to make me think about going smaller if it was my car, but thats just my opinion and i can put up with a bit of lag for good hp :)

u think wrong, the 2530 is only slightly bigger than the stock turbo and will give u about 225rwkw, and no way will a 2535 give u 300rwkw.

If you are going to go to the expense of upgrading your turbo, you may as well make it worth while, and go for the GT30. After driving the GT25 for a couple of weeks you will be, searching for more and kicking yourself that you didn't go for the bigger unit.

Jeff.

Suppose it depends alot on what people are after and what they use the vehicle for?

Basically, there is not a huge power difference from standard to the GT25. My thought is, if you are not content with the power from the standard turbo, then you wont be content for long with the GT25.

If you are only after a few more kw, then you have to ask yourself if it is worth it, or should I just be happy getting the most out fo the standard turbo (maybe just play with cam's, etc).

Jeff.

Hmm thanks for the advice guys - will consider the GT30.

But to be honest, 320rwHP+ ( 238Kw) is pretty serious power and I understand that 260rwKw is close to the limits of a stock bottom end on an RB25 so I am not sure if the GT30 is going to give me much more expect for more lag and potentially a broken motor when I run it up to 260+rwKw..

320rwHP at 13PSI seems awesome to me - thats serious power and not insane boost, so engine longevity shouldnt be too bad. My concern with the GT30 would be it may run up to say 370rwHP, but how long would the engine stay together? This is my daily driver, I dont want it to detonate after 3 months.

Am I wrong, can the RB25 sustain more than 370rwHP safely for extended periods? If so, the GT30 is probably a better option

Good responses guys, got me thinking about the GT30...

    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
