Hey guys,

I have a Turbosmart boost tee (prob 5 years old) I got for free (As pictured (mines red): Click here). Sometimes when you hit the pedal, boost jumps to 12psi then bleeds off, other times it will only hit about 7-8psi. Just wanting to know what system does this Turbosmart use - is it a needle type bleed valve or ball/spring method?

I have seen the Turbotech controller on here and ebay and by all reports it is great (uses a ball/spring) with no bleed off or spiking. Is it worth changing to one of these?

Cheers - Oh and cars an tiptronic R34 GTT.

Short answer...YES...change it...the old generation turbosmart bleeders were good back in the day but nowadays the turbotech is the way to go...there is a gazillion page thread on the turbotech here if you search...you can't go wrong for that price...bin the turbosmart one...

Yeah read the gazillion page thread which is why I'm so keen on the Turbotech. But.....dont see the sense in wasting $40 if the turbosmart uses a ball/spring too - so your saying the turbosmart is definatly a bleed system?

(i could take it apart and see but dont want to risk breaking it if someone on here knows off the top of their head).

Hi Guys

This is probablya stupid question but

Can you use a mechanical boost controller on an external wastegate? If yes anyone have a diagram and explanation of how you do it. I have a single turbo with a Tial external wastgate to fit I am more than happy to run a mechanical boost controller if it is possible. I just don't know much about external wastegates.

Cheers

Kev

they are all bleed..... ball or no ball... still a bleeder. From memory the last turbosmart one i pulled apart had a ball bearing in it.

Cheers GeeTR

Your diagam is spot on  and exactly how i thought it should go but i was also told i need to provide a pressure source to both ports on the wastegate. I have a Tial 44mm external wastegate so will need to go check.

Thanks for the reply

Kev

    • The smart approach is to use the gearbox loom from the manual car. Makes it a lot easier - just plugs into the switches on the box and plugs into the main loom up near the fusebox. Then you only need to deal with bypassing the inhibit switch. The other approach requires you to use the wiring diagram to identify those wires by colour and location, perhaps even indulging in a little multimeter action to trace them end to end to make sure, and then.... you will have the answers you need. The R34 wiring diagram is available on-line (no, I do not have a link to it myself - I would have to do a search if I wasn't able to go to the copy I have at home).

I am about to order my cd00a today for a rb25 neo s15 build I am currently trying to get the ball rolling again on 😁 what is wrong with the Collin’s adapter? Is the bellhousing machining 15mm because that’s how thick the Collin’s adapter is or is that universal across any I decide to go with? Also do you recommend any adapter in particular? Thanks man 😃
