I just got an SMS from my friend (Grim's missus) telling me her GTR was missing from her driveway.

Car is down the end of the street, ignition lock busted and car undriveable.

Looks like thieving scum broke in, pushed the car to the end of the street to start it, and left it there when that failed.

She's waiting for the cops to turn up now ... shall we bank on 36 hours? :)

This epidemic is getting ridiculous.

Me and some of the boys are going to use another Skyline as a bait car and go fishing!

:)

Oh ...

And I was parked at Marion shops last night. Bought some items and went out to put them in my car. Found a whole bunch of youths (about 5) having a look thru the windows of the Stag.

I take no chances, so I pushed one of the little f**kers over and told them all to f**k off.

Young punks were smart mouthing me as they walked off trying to remain tough and all, so I started walking to them and they ran off. Real heroes they are!

I've got a club lock and an alarm in the Stag, but I might upgrade the alarm anyway to page me.

:)

this is adelaide, 48 hours is more like it.

this is well and truly beyond a joke. either cops need to start actively preventing this or import owners are going to start taking it into their own hands.

Option B please. I could use the warm up.

Yer i think its lack of respect to... I had 2 young kids wouldnt have been 16 looking at my gtr... i was a few hundred metres away. thought nothing of it.. just slowly walked back to my car, until i saw one of the kids take out a screw driver. and it was a huge one! so i sprinted over there and scared them away before they did any thing.... But it just Pisses me off the fact they would have tried to badge the car but the size of the screw driver they had, all they would have done was scratch and gouge the paint and break the badge!

I know it's not the sort of thing a lot of people want to hear, but you folks who keep your Skylines on the street or driveway are frickin' crazy!

I had my first Skyline stolen after 4 months of beign parked on teh driveway, and 2 breakins during that time. After that, I swore I would never have another nice car unless it was gargaged every single night. This mean 3 years of patiently waiting before getting another one (as I couldn't garage it in that house) but that's better then the worry of leaving it outside every night and the heartache when someone violated my pride and joy.

Some people don't have a choice (limited car parking), but they do their best.

use to park mine where ever, but im so paranoid now, its always parked behind locked gates BEHIND another car. Even if it means waking family up at all sorts of hours to move their car, i will hardly ever leave mine in last, even with the gate behind it.

this is nene's car yeah that got broken into? Least she got it back, they didnt take it far..

Yep, Nene's car. She's pissed off big time. She hopes they die a slow and painful death. :laughing-smiley-014:

2 weeks before her wedding to. Last thing they need to do is spend more money! :D

I'm paying too much as it is, I use to be with NRMA then when I got my R33 they didn't want to know me so now I dont have any of my bonus points I had built up and am paying a shit load more then I should have to.

Im originally from Adelaide and i simply cannot believe the amount of thefts i have read about in this section.

Almost every other day, i read about "gtr stolen" this and "stag broken into" that.

What the f**k is happening in that city? I thought living conditions have improved in the past 4 years ive been away...?

Im scared to import the M3 im buying back to that shithole.

Sorry, no offense to those who are honest and upstanding...Im not speaking badly for you...its just the scum that breed there have raised my gall...

in the big scheme of things police do have alot on their plates, murders etc. not trying to get up anyone, but just something to think about, from their point of view a stolen car is a stolen car, regardless of if its a $500 corolla or $40k gtr, that, and they are pretty badly understaffed.

having said that, yes it does take ages for them to do something, but sometimes they are quick, they arent consistent, thats the problem.

anyway, i think the bait idea is awesome and could actually work, for small time crooks, but if your trying to fight a car theft syndicate like adelaide has been known to have then i really dont think its worth the risk of meeting someone in the dark with weapons they arent afraid to use.

^^^ They seem to have plenty of time to defect cars. Specially cars that get defected for non defectable items. To me this is a big waste of time that could be used more efficiently. They are bloody hopeless and i hope they are reading this :D

    • I know why it happened and I’m embarrassed to say but I was testing the polarity of one of the led bulb to see which side was positive with a 12v battery and that’s when it decided to fry hoping I didn’t damage anything else
    • I came here to note that is a zener diode too base on the info there. Based on that, I'd also be suspicious that replacing it, and it's likely to do the same. A lot of use cases will see it used as either voltage protection, or to create a cheap but relatively stable fixed voltage supply. That would mean it has seen more voltage than it should, and has gone into voltage melt down. If there is something else in the circuit dumping out higher than it should voltages, that needs to be found too. It's quite likely they're trying to use the Zener to limit the voltage that is hitting through to the transistor beside it, so what ever goes to the zener is likely a signal, and they're using the transistor in that circuit to amplify it. Especially as it seems they've also got a capacitor across the zener. Looks like there is meant to be something "noisy" to that zener, and what ever it was, had a melt down. Looking at that picture, it also looks like there's some solder joints that really need redoing, and it might be worth having the whole board properly inspected.  Unfortunately, without being able to stick a multimeter on it, and start tracing it all out, I'm pretty much at a loss now to help. I don't even believe I have a climate control board from an R33 around here to pull apart and see if any of the circuit appears similar to give some ideas.
    • Nah - but you won't find anything on dismantling the seats in any such thing anyway.
    • Could be. Could also be that they sit around broken more. To be fair, you almost never see one driving around. I see more R chassis GTRs than the Renault ones.
    • Yeah. Nah. This is why I said My bold for my double emphasis. We're not talking about cars tuned to the edge of det here. We're talking about normal cars. Flame propagation speed and the amount of energy required to ignite the fuel are not significant factors when running at 1500-4000 rpm, and medium to light loads, like nearly every car on the road (except twin cab utes which are driven at 6k and 100% load all the time). There is no shortage of ignition energy available in any petrol engine. If there was, we'd all be in deep shit. The calorific value, on a volume basis, is significantly different, between 98 and 91, and that turns up immediately in consumption numbers. You can see the signal easily if you control for the other variables well enough, and/or collect enough stats. As to not seeing any benefit - we had a couple of EF and EL Falcons in the company fleet back in the late 90s and early 2000s. The EEC IV ECU in those things was particularly good at adding in timing as soon as knock headroom improved, which typically came from putting in some 95 or 98. The responsiveness and power improved noticeably, and the fuel consumption dropped considerably, just from going to 95. Less delta from there to 98 - almost not noticeable, compared to the big differences seen between 91 and 95. Way back in the day, when supermarkets first started selling fuel from their own stations, I did thousands of km in FNQ in a small Toyota. I can't remember if it was a Starlet or an early Yaris. Anyway - the supermarket servos were bringing in cheap fuel from Indonesia, and the other servos were still using locally refined gear. The fuel consumption was typically at least 5%, often as much as 8% worse on the Indo shit, presumably because they had a lot more oxygenated component in the brew, and were probably barely meeting the octane spec. Around the same time or maybe a bit later (like 25 years ago), I could tell the difference between Shell 98 and BP 98, and typically preferred to only use Shell then because the Skyline ran so much better on it. Years later I found the realtionship between them had swapped, as a consequence of yet more refinery closures. So I've only used BP 98 since. Although, I must say that I could not fault the odd tank of United 98 that I've run. It's probably the same stuff. It is also very important to remember that these findings are often dependent on region. With most of the refineries in Oz now dead, there's less variability in local stuff, and he majority of our fuels are not even refined here any more anyway. It probably depends more on which SE Asian refinery is currently cheapest to operate.
