Hey guys, just wondering what the concensus with GTR owners was regarding suspension setup.

My 32 has Apexi adjustables at the moment which is good, but I find it slightly hard and it tends to skip over harsh small bumps. Seems good at moderate speeds and smooth roads and has no bodyroll...

I don't know if is simply not setup right or if Apex should just stick with electronics. How much will a decent set of tyres affect my setup also?

Interested to hear from you GTR owners on your experiences as everyone I speak too has a different opinion ie Tein coilovers, Bilsteins etc...

Hey martin, I have the Tein HA coilovers on my GTR and they are rock hard too on 265 x 35 x 18.

I drove the car back from Sydney and felt every stone I went over and even on the softest setting (16 steps) its still pretty hard.

They would be great for circuit though.

Hey Martin, What profile tyre are you running as that will definetly make a differende 35 series compared to 45 series etc. Forget if you said Saturday night if they were damper adjustable or not? If so did you try winding all the way soft see if it makes a difference? The aftermarket swaybars would also be tightning up the car and helping to cause the skipping aswell. Check spring rates also. needless to say iam running the ISC in my GTR and have no issues but it all comes down to personall preference and what you use the car for.

hey pete, yeah I am using same 265x35x18s.... not real sticky ones tho.

They simply did not have enough grip around mallala. Good fun all the same!! But I dont know where the shocks are set... will have a play with the stiff/soft settings and see how it goes... however most people I talk with say that the Teins work real well on the GTRs.

hey Ryan, yeah I am using 35 profile tyres, and my intended usage is track days and street but the car is not a daily so it can lean a little more towards track....

What sort of price would a set of ISCs to suit?

I am considering getting some 17s with some semi slicks for the track.

Changing the rebound won't do much about the harsh ride.

The rebound adjuster is how fast the shock rebounds after it compresses. Too slow and the shock will keep going up and down and not settle fast enough.

Your problem and the problem with almost every coilover out there is that the spring rates are far too high. The japanese do this to mask their inability to valve shocks correctly.

Your better off with a kit from the group buy over any all in one wonder coilover.

    • Sorry to hear your HFM BM57 was faulty,  did you contact HFM I would hope they would be at least grateful for the information if there was some sort of manufacturing fault, you would hope they would be sympathetic even if your item was 2 years old if it had never been fitted. May I ask where it leaked from ?
    • Cats are called Bella, and Donna...  Like that poisonous plant And I remember your 2 monsters, I remember making a little bit of wee when you let them out... LOL I have already installed cat doors into the laundry where their kitty litter is, and the sun room, apart from the cat doors there's not going to be any permanent mounted stuff on the interior walls (interior doors are cheap and easy to replace) I will get a outdoor cat cage thingie once I finish the landscaping out back... https://catnip.com.au/ The only off limit areas are the main bedroom and the gym room....but, currently the cats are curled up in bed, in the main bedroom with the Mrs.....LOL, the off limits for the kittens to the main bedroom lasted about 5 minutes with Jackie I currently only have 1 free standing huge cat tree multiple level scratching post thingie in the lounge room, but, I will be getting another one soon now that I'm happy with the furniture layout in the back room and have a perfect spot for it
    • All of this is making it seem clear that running the Coppermix twin was definitely the way to go, especially in hindsight with how insane tariffs have gotten and the strength of the USD vs yen at the time.
    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
    • Not to mention they drive like a bucket of bolts! yuck!
