Hi all,

Im investigating stroker engine recipie's. How does the spacer block get attached to the top of the rb26 block?

I presume there is some drilling and bolting down of additional studs to locate the plate while it and the bores's are bored out for the sleve's?

Last question... How is the spacer sealed to the top of the block so there is no water or oil leaks? is the spacer block o-ring'd around ther water galleries and perhaps using a copper gasket around the oil galleries... or do they block oil all together and run external oil lines?

Or perhaps part or all of the above?

You'd think gasket each side of spacer.

Extra long head bolts etc that go through the spacer to the block to hold it in place

different belt and all that to go with it of course.

Oil/water etc would meet, just makes it longer travel, although with oil mods probably some blanked off or restricted still

I thought the spacer would have been bored to the same size as the cylinder bores, and then the sleaves would be pressed into the spacer AND the block, holding the two together?

I guess the sleaves would have to be decked to the same height as the spacer block while the spacer is torqued to the same spec it would be with a head on it, when there is a gasket under it.

There are a lot of good reasons to consider going down spaced block path which i sure we dont need to debate here.

the OS giken RB30 stroke kit is alot less f**king around compared to using a RB30 block

my is under going a RB30 + RB26 cylinder head in his R32 GTR and nothing fits

he regrets not going with the OS giken 3L stroker kit now

That the reason right there. Its not as big a deal in a 2wd skyline (althoough it does take some effort), a gtr is a whole diferent situation.

It makes looking at short rod stroker engines like the Tomei 2.8 kit and what Mark99 did with a 2.9lt in an RB26 block worth investigating.

the only thing a OS kit will help with fitting is the sump because you wont need an adapter plate

your still gonna have issues with the height using an OS motor or an RB30 block

personally i just dnt like the idea of spacer plates and extra gaskets etc

i like to keep things simple

i had no problems fitting my RB30 but then again it wasn't in a GTR

    • Kinkstah, no, coilovers aren't illegal, especially as a bolt straight in. The illegal part will be if they're altering suspension geometry beyond factory limits, or the ride height is not legal.   Sounds like the blue slipper just didn't want to deal with any later possibility of mods appearing on the car.
    • The problem has always been that coilovers are able to be adjusted, almost at any time, to be too low. Most people who ever get/got defected for/with coilovers were actually afoul of the minimum ride height rule. So the interpretation by cops/inspectors was always that it is pointless to allow numpty to raise his coilovers and get the car inspected/cleared, then just drop them back down again as soon as they get around the corner from the inspection station.  This led to the interpretation that they were illegal unless rendered such that they can't be adjusted (ie, collars welded to the body, that sort of thing). That may or may not have ever actually been the official line, but I'm pretty sure it's not considered to be a solution these days. Coilovers themselves fall under clause 3.2 b of that manual, because they are an "installation of a variable ride height system" and they don't fit the exclusions in that clause (which point to air springs and other pneumatic adjusters). So, as per previous statements, they require engineering cert to be legal on the road. Once you have such cert, provided you do not adjust them outside the height range covered by the cert, you are OK. Without, you have an unroadworthy vehicle.
    • Here E10 is the cheapest fuel. And general advice is to not use it unless you hate your car. From what I remember it clogs up stuff in the fuel system or injectors?  With US/Canada being E10 across the board, does that mean that all fuel there is terrible?
    • Sorry, are coilovers ACTUALLY ILLEGAL in NSW? They aren't in Vic, as long as they retain 70% of stock travel and the car is above 100mm off the ground. Does NSW actually have a law making coilovers actually illegal? RWC/Blue Slip/Engineering people not knowing the actual f**king laws boils my blood. Demand them to point to the documentation that states a coilover is illegal. (it may exist in NSW ) Edit: I checked.
