Hi all,

Tonight adam (chefstagea) and I have got about 90% of his frount mount intercooler installed into his S2 stagea... Just got the last piece of piping to go and we have a slight question about it:

On the stock piping their was a small nipple with a black line going to it... Ive seen some intercooler kits which have these nipples on the new piping. Adams kit doesnt have the nipple on the piping. What does this nipple do? Im thinking ill go get one put into the piping while hes at work tomorrow. Where can I get the nipple installed? (exhaust shop maybe?)

the nipple I'm talking about is the one you can see here on the middle piece of piping:

Cheers,

Chris

On a series 2, you will need 2 nipples. One for boost and the other goes to the power steer pump.

I used a brass screw in nipple found at most auto parts shop. Drill a hole, and screw it in. The alloy pipes are fairly thin so I used some liquid metal approx $8 tube to fillet around the nipple and the pipe to make it stronger.

How to install nipple into a Intercooler pipe:

What you will need:

Brass threaded nipple fitting, with a 1/8 BSP tread on end (Sprint Auto $4.95)

1/8 BSP tap kit (from motortrader $37). This kit is needed as thread on nipple is a gas thread, thus it tapers

White plumbing tape

3mm Drill bit

8mm Drill bit

Heat silicon/sealent

Procedure:

Mark the spot that you would like the nipple with a scratch

Take 2mm drill bit a drill a pilot hole for the 8mm

Drill out hole with 8mm drill bit and more it around a bit to make room for tap

Tap 1/8 BSP thread into pipe

Place 2/3 layers of plumbing tape around the threads on the nipple

Screw nipple into piping and fastern firm but not over tight as intercooler piping is a bit soft could easily pull threads out

Place some heatsilicon/goop around bottom edges of nut on nipple just to ensure the seal is 110%

Happy days!

No finish Installing your frount mount intercooler, with one less thing to worry about :D

One more step, make sure you clean the inside of the pipe very well after to make such there is no metal bites from drilling. don't want them going thru the engine.

No need to buy expensive taps, as the thread is tapered it will cut it own thread, esp in the alloy pipe.

    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 😉. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 😍.
    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
