latly my 32's hicas light has been comen on after a little while of driven.

after driven it around for quite a bit since the light has been coming on i have now narrowrf it down to these factors

if i drive for a long period of time it comes on

if i drive for 5 mins slowly and then i boost the light comes on

the light comes on and does not disapear untilli turn the engine off.

so pretty much i have came to the conclusion that if i boost or do highway driving where the wheels are spinning quite quickly my hicas comes on.

i have taken it to a normal mechanic and they had no idea what a hicas really was so im after specific help

what can i do/check to stop the light comen on

had that problem on my r33 but after trying to find the problem i went under the car two fit the lock bar i found that somthing was eating my sensor wires there were all touching try that if you have dogs or other pets

where is the hicas fluid located? i see the power steering but is there a seperate 1 for the hicas?

Its the same thing really.

Now I gota GTR (Might be the same as GTS-T, Im not sure, just have a look)

- OK so you check the one at the front in the engine bay. Make sure thats topped up.

- NOW open your boot / As you are facing the boot, on the bottom right handside, there is a panel you can unscrew, there will be another tank/resevour, Top that up with powersteering fluid.

The same thing happend to me and what is said above is what I did. End Result = My HICAS Light turned off.

I have posted this before BUT some ppl seem to think the tank/resevour in the boot is for the ATTESA-ETS...

Only other thing I can suggest its to get your mechanicn check the fuese in the fues box, do a wheel alignment and even diagnose the cars ECU to see if it can pick up any faults in the system if the light still does not turn off.

BTW let me know how you go about filling up the rear tank/resevour (thats if you have one, LOL!), if that is topped up and switches off the light then I can say its for the HICAS.

  • 2 weeks later...

i had the same problem man, fill up your power steering fluid and then fill up the rear hicas aswell, then start the car and drive it for a while for about 5-10mins and then you will know if there is a lak in your hicas system because i had the same problem and my mechanic told me to do that, and also go get a wheel alignment and im pretty sure you would be ok, i was at the stage of removing the hicas but i ended up fixin it, hope that helps mate,

cheers

My HICAS light comes on in my 32 R after several minutes of highway driving also...

All fluids are fine. Anyone know why it does this? Does it do this with all 32 R's or? Maybe I have a HICAS lockbar? Would the light be on always if I had a lockbar or never?

The reservoir in the boot on the right IS for the 4WD system. Still requires power steering fluid, but is not for the HICAS.

Wheel alignment, steering wheel sensor...

Then check the HICAS computer at the back...

Ok just to clear some things up.

Yes the R32 GTR does have a hicas fluid reservoir in the back right of the boot. NOTE any other varient R32 including GTS-t GTS will not have a reservoir there so don't bother looking.

Wheels alignments should only be a last resort IMO. Here's some possiblilites.

1: If you have an aftermarket steering wheel, you SHOULD have a hicas bosskit or your light will stay on continously.

2: Your hicas ECU in the trunk, on the underside of the parcel tray may have a fault.

3: Possible leaks in the steering / low power steering fluid.

4; If your hicas has been deleted you should be able to see a lock bar in there (in this case you don't need to worry about the light)

If all else fails just eliminate hicas altogether. It's cheap and you'll find handling alot more predictive.

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
