So what will be the total price you have paid after tyres, rego, stamp duty ect...?

Or better still final price minus the J-spec advertised price.

Just so we can better understanding of what people will be up for.

That doesnt sound too bad... Can it be had any cheaper do you think?

Im looking at options as well when it comes time to export my Sti Forester...

do you know what charges are left to pay for the import process? just trying to sort out finances to make sure i dont fall short with all the mod buying lol.

i believe all thats left to pay is:

1. Import Duty: 10% of FOB purchase price in Japan

10% of $13,405.76 = $1,340.58

2. GST: 10% of the Fob Price + Import duty combined

10% of ($13,405.76 + $1,340.58) = $1,474.63

3. Seaway Charge

= $1,216.84

Total remaining for Landed Costs = $4031.85

then ontop should be just the associated local freight charges of BNE>SYD, then compliance and on road costs.

does that sound about right?

thanks guys :D

Sounds about right. I imported my 1988 S13 and Seaway were the freight company I used, from memory it came down to about $2400 for the shipping and taxes combined.

Then Brisbane to their depot in Sydney was included in the transport, but I had to pay an extra $150 to have it delivered to my house... :D

OK guys, ive come to the end of this process for payments anyway. here is a total breakdown of charges & dates.

J-Spec Fee - 21/04/2008 - $1,000.00

Car Cost + FOB fee - 29/04/2008 - $13,405.76

Bank Telegraphic Fee - 29/04/2008 - $30.00

MacJap Compliance Deposit - 02/05/2008 - $1,000.00

Import Duty - 25/06/2008 - $1,280.39

GST - 25/06/2008 - $1,497.68

Sea Freight - 25/06/2008 - $898.51

Wharfage & AQIS Fee - 25/06/2008 - $318.33

Brokerage Fee - 25/06/2008 - $110.00

Quarantine Fees - 25/06/2008 - $33.00

Quarantine Processing - 25/06/2008 - $44.00

Wharf Handling Fee - 25/06/2008 - $44.00

Cartage to TOLL Syd - 25/06/2008 - $165.00

Toll Depot to Compliance Shop Tow - TBA - $130.00

MacJap Compliance Balance - TBA - $1,750.00

TOTAL: ~ $21,706.67

That about sums it up!

J-Specs website quote was $21,300 landed & complied (excluding new tyres + on road costs), end cost was $21,706.67 (excluding tyres + on road costs). My compliance shop was a little more expensive then average (but i think im happy paying for Gregs @ MacJap Motors' service) so otherwise J-Specs quote wouldve been pretty much spot on!.

All thats left is a waiting game till the car gets in my hands!, will update again with a final conclusion when its all done :D

Dham 32 V-spec II for 22K is preety good deal....mate..

once you do get it in your hands.. give us detaisl about the condition of the interor, exterior and if it tally's with whats was said to you (Grading level ??..)

Hanyou this has been really helpful

Thanks for taking the time to write all of this up and help the rest of us who are looking to go through the same process!

I've just started the search of my car a couple of days ago and I'll keep a report and timeline like this too to put up for others to see how it goes!

ok a little bit of an update today, seaway customs called to inform that my car should be leaving quarantine and they will organise a truck for delivery to the Sydney Toll depot tomorrow. it should be available for pickup on monday next week.

finally i can see it in the flesh :D

  • 2 weeks later...

i must say im just about finished my whole import journey, using j-spec, and they have been great to deal with. however i would highly recommend to anyone importing into sydney to go with HOBBS for cleaning over AAT. my car arrived the same day as another mates car, they were on the same boat. my car went to AAT and his went to HOBBS. Mine is still waiting for release, a week after it was meant to be released to goto compliance. his came out of compliance earlier this week. so frustrating! this has definatly been the worst part of the whole waiting process. hopefully it gets transported from cleaning to compliance today, but no doubt there will be some other delay!

yes defintely j-spec have been great.

im still waiting for my car to be transported from bris > syd to go into compliance. they did say it would be here on monday/tuesday this week. oh and for everyones reference - seaway customs suck with their communication skills.

hopefully its here this week though.

    • It's funny, as Ive seen plenty of people use them in cheap builds on YT. And they actually go okay, even though a lot of other maxspeedingrods stuff is terrible. Those turbos seem reliable enough, the only part being, a good quality turbo that is "identical" to it, will out perform it day in and day out. In both a lower boost threshold, and the ability to flow more air at the same boost pressure. As a cheap cheap replacement, not a terrible choice. For cheap and shouldn't blow in a day, not terrible (like other eBay/Temu turbos) for low cost and still decent performance, that's where the question comes in to play from the results I've seen. I'd actually find it hilarious to buy one, and strap it to a paddock basher or some other cheap as POS originally NA car, and send it to the moon!
    • The maxpeedingrods turbo is cheap and bolts on to stock parts. I think you just need a bigger silicone coupler for the intake. Its a cheap china turbo, but it's been running on mine for almost 3 years at 16-19 psi.
    • What do they look like right after you've tried to start it with everything connected? Also post photos of what they actually look like.
    • Also wanted to say, my new spark plugs are blackened looks like it's very rich. I have splitfire coilpacks but stock coilpack loom and ignitor. I tried directly grounding the ignitor ground to body as well.
