I think you'll find the diff is the r200 long nose like the z31 300zx or jap r31's or some s12's and some r30's not the short nose silvia/skyline style diff. I have seen some of these 200z's with 4.4:1 lsd's which is the same as the jap r31. Pretty sure the s12 has the 3.9 lsd and the oz 300z seems to have a 3.54 open. Most of the cv shafts are interchangable thru these models except the 3.54 version need the input stubs swaped to the other side to use in a 4.4 diff. All of these lsd's are pretty weak as they have only one inner lug friction per side taking all the load. If you take the shims from either side and add 2 more inner lug friction disks to each side then they become 3 times stronger and also lock up much harder. This is basically what nismo use.

All 200ZR's have the R200 long nose LSD, as far as I know, and mine is a 4.3:1 which is what the HR31 skyline rb20det is also.

Gearboxes all look the same but vary slightly, series 1 have single syncros, same as VL and local R31. Series 2 (californian shape) have double syncros, basically same as an R32. Visually the R32 / 200ZR boxes look the same, same diminsions etc so there is no problems fitting an R32 box in. An upgrade would be an R33 box, would require a slight shortening of the tail shaft.

Thanks guys gives me a great place to start on

have the california 200ZR main bearing went so i have a rb20det from r32 runing from 200zr computer and old 200zr coilpacks with the igniter box sitting on top just like a redtop rb20det

gearbox believe its just the thrust bearing that is shot so going to replace that and a new clutch see how i got still orginal gearbox from 200zr

rear diff the diff is caked in oil on the right side drive shaft haven't check the diff oil level yet as its on stands believe i need a new seal there and prob a new wheel bearing as well

hopefully this coming weekend get the intake and exhaust back on found 3 gaskets including exhuast manifold that have huge holes in em

im having fun putting this car back to a good standard as the joker before didn't have a clue :starwars:

cheers blokes any more info would be great

sounds exactly like my situation when I got my late model 200zr! its also running an r32 eninge with the 200zr ecu/loom... my tip if u want more from the stock ecu (rather than changing to the r32 loom of full aftermarket) is try www.nistune.com and you'll have a fully tunable ecu, the stock ecu settings are rubbish.

frigjam

are you using type 1 or type 2 nistune board

do they both plug up??

Type 1 board, its the stock 200ZR / HR31 Skyline ECU (same ECU for both models). Type 2 boards are generally R32 type ECU's and completely different, no type 2 board will direct plug in.

As a matter of fact, we have just finished about the 5th revision board for the Redtop NICS engine, and I have been the guinea pig. All is well now and just made 170rwkw on the rollers, stock as a rock except R33 turbo and big fuel pump.

MASSIVE difference, the stock ECU has over boost protection, goes into a semi 'limp mode' when the AFM hits its max voltage reading, sending injector cut and all sorts of bizarre shit, you will never have any success with the stock ECU if you are modding the car, trust me!

Any chance you might have some more details on shimming up the long nose R200

looking at doing it at the moment but dont have part numbers to order stuff of Nissan and havent found anyone else on here with any info on doing it.

    • Put a fuel pressure gauge on it. Replace the turbos. Probably completely separate issues.
    • What copper washer do you guys use on the bleeder bolts? The existing one I have I had no idea where to find it in a local store, I did buy some online but that are only 1mm thick whereas my old one is 2mm+ thick and when I put the new washer out and squeeze the top radiator hose I can hear a bit of air but not with the old one. Does this matter? The new one doesn't leak, but the inner diameter is a bit loose whereas the old one threads on the bolt.
    • Howdy all, after being out a few weeks ago on a spirited drive in my GTR I have 2 issues that oddly have appeared at the same time. Whilst accelerating quickly through the gears all of a sudden i’ve lost power at the top of third gear (below redline around 6000rpm) for no obvious reason.    From that point onwards the car has been running rich on idle, won’t really rev under load without a ton of black smoke and the odd backfire, and dying as a pull up to a set of lights unless I keep the revs up around 1500rpm. In addition when shutting down the car that same night (I was 10 minutes from home) I noticed one of the turbos was significantly noisy on wind down when shutting off the engine. After letting the car cool down overnight it starts up fine, although once it gets to temp the revs start to creep up and down, the exhaust is darker than it should be and it also sounds like it’s running rich (fat note) I’ve put a new set of plugs in it - no change, the old plugs all seemed OK with two of them being somewhat richer/fueled up than the other 3 with 1 being borderline. I’ve smoked tested the intake system via the front of the Turbos, found a split vacuum hose going to the factory boost gauge sender, which I have since replaced.  Also found another leak on the gasket coming off the rear turbo outlet, have also replaced this. After fixing both of these leaks - still have the running rich issue. I’ve also tried another pair of AFM’s - no change here After pulling off the front turbo intake pipes, there is obvious shaft play in the front turbo, which now hisses loudly on light revvs although I can’t see why this would make the car run funny even under idle. I’m curious to know why it’s running rich before I potentially replace/rebuild turbos. The car is completely stock <50,000kms  other than an exhaust. Oil and coolant are all clear. I haven’t bothered with coil packs as it looks like they won’t be the issue due to condition of the plugs. Any help appreciated as I cry myself to sleep!
    • No probs at all. I used to love trying to dig up obscure info for those in need where possible going back 20+ years on SAU.  I did have another look and couldn't come up with any closer match. I'm leaning towards those skirts in your first pic are custom fitments, cut down/extended or from another car entirely and modded to fit an R34 sedan. I would've thought someone in Japan had them and taken a photo at some stage over the last 2 decades but there's nothing. Someone out there must know surely.
