just changed my dashboard cluster globes with leds tonight and thought I'd clean up that clear plastic cover that covers all the gauges .. Turns out the stuff can't be cleaed. Looks like someone had sprayed some sort of clearning detergen over the clear cover and didn't wipe it off and it just won't come off ... like the plastic is ruined (although it feels smooth on touch)

Anyway was wondering if there are any skyline wreckers in sydney ? This is for an R34 GTT... or if anyone has any suggestions on what to try and clean this crap off with, I'm all ears. I've tried standard detergent, alcohol etc and the stains won't budge

give it a cut and buff we used to do it all the time

cause when we had dashes out at panel shops the idiot beaters used to spill all kinds of shit on em (brake, fluid thinners, etc, etc)

quick wet sand with some 1500 and then run the buff over it and it should be fine

Ok I've tried 5 different cleaners and none seem to be able to get rid of this crap (even tried Maguires ScratchX .. which btw is a useless product - doesn't do crap on paint scratches either)

Abo Bob, is it unblemished and fits a GTT ? If so, do you want to sell it and if so how much?

Forget the cleaner products they won't work.

Follow Dahtone Racing's instructions and you will find your cluster will be fine.

Wet sand with 1500 as he said.

Then polish it.

Don't bother with cleaners.

Maguires ScratchX worked fine on my headlights to get rid of the yellow haze, though I used it to buff out scratches left behind by 2000 grit abrasive paper.

Wet sand with 1500 as he said and hand polish with Maguires's plastic polish (can't remember the name)..

ScratchX mentioned earlier will work as a plastic polish, but I believe Maguires PlasticX is what your thinking about :)

can someone just quickly explain to me what 'wet sanding' means ... just what it says ie. poor water over the plastic whilst sanding it ? What does this achieve?

You keep the item you are sanding and the paper wet. It makes the sand paper less abrasive and therefore leaves finer scratches. The idea of sanding is to start with a more abrasive paper and finishing off with a polish. In English you sand the big lumps off first and work your way down to the small ones :D

Try Brasso buy it from supermarkets. Have used it for years to clean perspex, polishes alloy wheels perfectly. Don't waste your money with the fancy named brands- try it you won't be dissapointed-its cheap.

You may need to use wet and dry if you panel is badly marked-I would use 2000 then brasso.

headlight repair kit to fix what ? the yellow headlight haze someone mentioned or the clear cluster plastic ??

To do either, esentially its doing the same thing. Making plastic go from that dirty opaque look to a clean clear look by removing layers of plastic. I have to tell you though to patient with it. Results aren't instant and the longer you take polishing them up the better they will look. :)

Damn! Why didn't I think of Brasso :) I'll have to keep that in mind for when my headlights get eventually yellowed again and I run out of ScratchX :)

    • There is no difference between a 17x8 and an 18x8. The total diameter of the tyre needs to remain +/- the same (so you don't mess up the gearing, speedo reading, and clearance when turning front wheels..... so you just need to use a lower profile tyre on th 18 than you do on the 17. /rocket surgery.
    • I thought the same to start with. But then I thought it was one of those LCAs where the end of the ARB goes through a bushing in the LCA itself, instead of having an end link.
    • Yeah - I mean, go the other way. Smaller range. Not larger.
    • To re-cap, I bought: https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Lsailt-8G-Infiniti-Q50-Q60-2014_1601171829627.html?spm=a2756.trade-list-buyer.0.0.2cd476e9FTIlKE As you can see, if I bought 20 it was $653, but I bought 1 so it was $1,170. I was very tempted to buy 2 and resell 1 at 25% cheaper. @MBS206, I am not sure if they do a Kluger one, here is their list but it might be there under a global model name: http://www.lsailt.com/product/android-interface?page=1 Keep in mind these full android replacements have basically all the bits a phone does (cpu, ram, storage, wifi, bluetooth, usb interfaces) other than a screen (it uses a host), thus the $800+ cost. Android Auto screen mirroring is MUCH cheaper as it's just a cut down shell, input mirroring and output mirroring BTW I also need that "screen off" feature, it is much harder to see wildlife even if a dash is reasonably dark. Both the Fuga and V37 have display off buttons for night use, they just come back on for a second or 3 if you interact with it, eg skip a song.
    • I use FCC car launcher. It has an option for different backgrounds, so instead of turning the screen off you can swipe 'up' to a black screen with no background/icons. (mine has the time on it only). It's kinda nice. Also lets you use gestures to say swipe to go to next song, etc.
