Please Help!

Hi Guys,

I really need some help, the other day i was driving my r32 gtr out in the mountains when all a sudden the car seemed to drastically loose power... i was putting my foot flat to the floor and it wasnt really going anywhere... (it reminded me of when i blew the clutch in the car) i then pulled over and got it towed home.. it appeared when i put my foot down to rev very slowly as well... i got a mobile mechanic to have a quick look as im not mechanically minded and he said its something to do with the timing at the front of the engine and could cost anywhere between $400 - $2500 to fix. he also said there is a major rattle coming from the front there...

i realise without actually seeing the car you cant really help too much but any info or thoughts would be appreciated. as on the weekend im going to have a crack at taking the timing cover off so we can get a better look at things.

just hoping he didn't say timing belt may have slipped/broken...
