Hey guys, as stated, need to get some insight into getting a sunroof on my R34, not planned for anytime soon, probably when that yummy tax return comes in, and spend it inside of Australia then feeding the international market ( dont mind me i rant about economics all day )

Anyways,

http://www.webasto.com.au/am/en/am_auto_sunroofs_792.html

Havent got a quote yet. But what do you reckon the price margin should be, and is it a worth while investment for those sunny days in summer, or seethrough rainy days like today -.-

cheers souljahZ !!

its the same as any other car buddy, but alot of ppl dont take kindly to it because it "weakens the structure"

but seeing as its a NA (nothing intended) i dont see why u cant have a awsome comfortable cruiser with a sun roof =D

but your looking anywhere from 2k for a basic job to about 8k for the ultimate package

Wow serious?

Nice.. well im thinking of getting one done.

But right now its just asking around and scoping out all this info.

Well if they say it weakens the structure.. then i might give it a pass because i intend to turbo the car when i get my full licence.

So hmm..

Anyone on here who has a sunroof ?

I've got the factory electric sunroof on my 34...love it. With aftermarket ones unless you are planning on getting the electric ones, don't bother...the manual ones just look daggy. Personally if I were after one, might be a good idea to search wreckers for the factory one or yahoo auctions.

Tall? forget about it..

Might as well find a smashed R34 and just take its original parts as it will be alot easier, all the buttons and roof trims are different.

I wouldnt mind a sun roof would allow me to get a tan on both arms lol

My R34 came with a factory fitted sunroof, If you're anything taller than say 5"9 your head will probably scrape the roofline

I wouldn't get an aftermarket one,

I work for a dealership and one of the aftermarket girls I talk to say every now and then a customer will come back with problems with sunroofs, and they supply a few different makers so it's not like it's just the one brand.

As far as the factory fitted sunroof, I've driven non sunroof r34 GT-t's and there's no noticeable difference in structural rigidity while driving or doing power slides

Got a factory sunroof on my 34...

Its a nice touch and i cant see how anyone wouldnt like it!

But like everyone else has said if your tall (ie 5' 11" +) then dont bother unless you like having your head tilted to the side when you drive.

also lets not forget having a sunroof adds 10kw :D

I got one on my R34, the factory fitted sunroof is fantastic. it can be both sunroof and moonroof. There are two switch next to reading light on the car's roof. One is used for lift the back mirror seems like moonroof. Another switch is used to slide mirror to the back. Try to find second hand one is the best optin for me.

    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.
