oi,

i have a s2 98 rs4 auto, problem- auto won't change into 4th until i'm either 1.doing 75-80 clicks 2. previously driven the car for long enough @ 60kmh that i changes up by itself. won't change with the manual mode engaged either! thought it may be just the way the auto shift is programmed? any theories?

Also needing a rear brake rotor, can't get one anwhere! Help

Cheers, useless stagea owner. :) peanut butter jelly time. out.

Welcome!

Can't help with the gearbox issues, but from memory there have been similar issues in some recent threads: do a search for "stagea tiptronic" or "stagea gearbox" it should give you some useful info: like anything, without actually being able to test it, there will only be theories/opinions thrown around, but you may get lucky and find it is a common issue...

As far as the rear rotor is concerned: do you want brand new or used?? Either way, there are a couple of guys parting out their cars in the Stagea classifieds section if you want used parts. Alternatively, check out some of the businesses in the Trader section: they should be able to help you out...

Hope that helps...

Micah

As for the rear brake rotors I have just ordered a set from Dixcel in Japan through Japanparts.com. I just put up a post all about this here

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/St...html&st=200

Go down to post #219 as I've added the links and how I ordered etc. They were shipped yesterday and I only paid for them Sunday night.

And with the Auto issue, when you say 4th thats really the Overdrive but are you sure your not getting confused with the Torque converter lockup which can and probably does feel like another gear change which you might be confusing with 4th. When the car is cold it won't lockup until the Auto has reached a certain temp so it will feel like the car needs to go up one more (Mines like this every night on the way home from work).

When travelling @ 60kms its pretty hard to keep it locked up as any light throttle movement will keep it on boost which won't allow it to lock, at that speed anyway. Its usually a lot easier to get it to lock up and stay that way over 80kms as longs as you use light throttle. Thats probably why you say it takes ages to change and why manual mode makes no difference as it wouldn't with the torque converter lockup.

But if your really not sure take it to an Auto shop and get them to go over it.

Good Luck with it.

**P.S** I'm guessing thats your Stag in your avatar. Is that the one which was at the Xtreem something or other car yard on the magic mile in Moorooka. Looks exaclty the same, I was serioulsly looking at buying that when it was there :( Beautiful car too. Congrats on that :)

From what i've read it sounds normal, mine wont shift into 4th until after 5-10mins of driving at 60kph and is warmed up enough but it will if u got to around 75-80kph as you've described. It wont allow you to shift into 4th with tiptronic mode either until its warm enough.

But if you having this problem when the car is warmed up, then as Mr RS4 said get a workshop to go over it becasue it shouldn't have any troubles selecting 4th at 60kph (when warmed up).

Yep, you're a Stagea noob :(

That is normal. The gearbox needs about 5mins of dirving before its warm enough, or unless you're driving 80kph.

Longer if you've got a trans cooler too.

okay no worries thanks for the responses! so the 4th gear is really an overdrive, and yes MR RS4 i did buy that car from Xtreem motors or what ever it was, i didn't pay what they were asking though!

Thanks again, my mind is at rest finally!

hmm not true. i can get my s2 into 4th at 60 to 70ks after 1 or 2 minutes after start up using triptronic . Also it goes into 4th normally as i live 40 seconds away from the freeway and never has it stayed in 3rd.. Doesent sound like a major problem though

sorry about f#@king with you rested mind

    • Thanks for the linkie. Certainly always a great deal of help when people post comparisons like these, but I think for now I'll stay away from any semi slicks. I did go ahead and order the sportcontact 7. My buddy has them on his modified A4 and he keeps saying how good they are. For my intended purposes these will probably work real well. I'll report on them once I had the chance to try them out
    • Talk about noisy. Even when I still had the Tomei under the car I could distinctly hear the tires rolling. And I doubt I ever will need maximum grip like on a track. My GTR will maybe never even see the 600hp mark and I need to get used to the car quite a bit before challenging the limits of its handling. For the next winter storage I think I will get a set of these rubber drive-on thingies that have a tire shaped base. Those supposedly really help prevent flat spots.
    • Well our climate is definitely way less hot overall and the weather can be quite picky at times. I just know that during normal road use or even spirited drives there is no way I'd be able to consistently stay in the operating temperature, and constantly changing the tire pressure would also be a royal pain.
    • Input shaft bearing. They all do it. There is always rollover noise in Nissan boxes - particularly the big box. Don't worry about it unless it gets really growly.
    • For once a good news  It needed to be adjusted by that one nut and it is ok  At least something was easy But thank you very much for help. But a small issue is now(gearbox) that when the car is stationary you can hear "clinking" from gearbox so some of the bearing is 100% not that happy... It goes away once you push clutch so it is 100% gearbox. Just if you know...what that bearing could be? It sounding like "spun bearing" but it is louder.
