hi all,

I would like to know what EBC I can use that will allow me to run 0-20psi boost on a R33GTR?

My wife is not used to manuals and I do not want her to get into any trouble, so I want to set the boost at say 1psi for her, but I want 20psi for track days. I do not need any bling bling just full control of the boost.

Thanks

Mal

Get an adjustable actuator to set it less than the normal "factory' setting. Depending on the actuator used you could effectively get rid of all boost.

This will need to be adjusted manually between driver swapping though, could turn out to be a big pain in the arse real quick

You could also just disconnect the actuator, a much quicker job. I don't know how healthy this will be for your wastegate/turbo though, because it'll probably be flapping around a hell of a lot.

Thanks for the replies people,

I was wanting something that would drop the boost down below factory specs, but I am guessing I would need something with an electronic wastegate/actuator and that would equal big $$$.

Tha AVCR looks to be the go, do I need a specific model to use on the RB26DETT ? They seem to be costing around the $750AU for a new one, but I did not want one that was for a different model motor and want to make sure.

Are they also user install or do i need it pro installed and then dynoed ?

Thanks all

Mal

best to get it installed/setup by a pro. Here in adelaide i was quoted ~$250 (for install/tuning). It suits many types of cars, not brand specific. I've got the "vehicle specific wiring diagrams" book sitting in front of me (come with the AVCr when u buy it) and the Rb267dett is listed.

Depends on how competent you are with the iron. I installed my S-AFC myself and I've removed/replaced the turbo myself, I don't imagine a boost controller would be much harder than combining the 2.

There are no tuning costs if you don't have a reprogrammable ECU or piggyback device (S-AFC etc), but don't expect it to run very well until you get one and tune it

there very easy to put in it took me 1 1/2 hours to put in from opening the car door to taking the first run down the street just take it to some one who has one to show u haw to us it the boost setings r very low so u cant realy do much damage if u dont play to much with the set up but just dont give it to it to much till u have been shown haw to us it

yes but with the avc-r you can set boost for each gear and rpm range..and ye u cant set boost lower than lowest on wastegate.

install you can do urself with a bit of skill and tuning you can go dyno or with a mate and long stretch of road :D

if u only want hi / low setting then profec b spec2 is good buy..

its still a single solenoid unit, it displays injector cycle etc but if u got a pfc with h/c u can see that anyway.

So so many people have stated u can set boost in every gear but has any1 actually done it??? coz how does the avc-r know what gear u r in?? it doesent get a signal from the gearbox.

Right ppl. I have in front of me the AVCr instruction manual. I haven't had it installed yet (due to engine dying week after I bought it - different story). The Avcr has a number of different learn modes. Its pretty complicated, but there is a wire for the revs and a wire for the speed signal. It uses some sort of calculation from these two values to know what gear its in

Yes it would work - cos its in the Manual. Just need someone in the know to set it up fo u.

:O

    • Hope you aren't too sore after that one, might take a day or 2 to notice yet and I guess it is a loooooong drive home. On the bright side, tube frame front end is a thing at superlap, right?

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same. There are plenty of discussions on here about this issue from al the many years of people wanting a cheap/accessible option. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/
    • Yeah dunno why johhny posted that here with no context, just post on FB/insta bro where he put it up?  Laine had an off at T4 during Thurs prac, he's ok, car is less than perfect, they are done for the weekend, he can fill in the rest. Bando also binned it like 100m up the road.
    • I feel there must have been a FB/insta post and the weekend did not start well at all I hope everyone is all okay
