Hi Guys,

Okay, i drove my car for 30minutes and went to fill up at the servo. When i got there i popped the hood to check the oil level as i do every week.

Tonight i was shocked to see the oil level was waaay beyond full! about 1/4 of the way up the dipstick! So i wiped it clean and stuck it in again(with the engine still running).

The result was the same...

Why would this be happening? I am starting to stress that this could be a more serious problem but i dont want to take it to the mechanic and ask before i get some advice on here since im afraid they will try to tell me its worse than what it actually is.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Hey sean,

I just checked it then with the engine off, and the oil level is beautiful not too high not too low :P

Don't understand about the oil sloshing around while i drive? how would i tell?

Oil pressure and temp gauge's are within the normal ranges.

Is this all normal?

Thanks again.

As long as you ain't taking the mickey, here's why.

The internals are rotating at a thousand revs at idle. The crank, rods, pistons are throwing off oil that has lubricated them as well as oil draining from the head oil returns. This all ends up back down in the sump along with frothy aerated oil from the turbos. The oil level will not be true as it will be mixed with air and sloshed around in the bottom too. It may bubble into the dipstick tube and run up the dipstick to give a false reading.

Cheers.

wtf is ur problem?

i am new to this scene and i am overcautious about my GTR.

My old car never used to do this even after it was hot, so that is why i was wondering.

I didn't realize that asking a f@*&^ing question was cause for being a smart arse...

As for GTRsean, thanks thats what i thought, but just wanted confirmation that nothing was wrong internally.

Lol Deren, PS i meant to be checked like that.

Hey, I understand where Harry is coming from, when I tell some mechanics I work in IT, drop off the car dressed in a suit and tie, clean all the grease and other shit off me, and go off for a meeting with clients, they sometimes talk to me like I am blone, 18 yrs old, and never lifted the bonnet on a car before.

A lot of people dont actually know their cars as well as others do, but they still love them as much.

Remember people, we all started in this scene somewhere, for me it was when I was 10, and saw what Nissan's godzilla could do at Bathurst, from there I knew the potential of cars with build quality.

For others it's when they decide to bite the bullet and give things a try, and get a Godzilla to see what the hype is for, at least Harry is trying to keep an eye on the car, and care for it.

B.

Thanks Brian, well said mate.

My strong passion/obsession with my car is one which cant be easily described and i am at trying to do everything i can to learn more about it mechanically and how to treat it properly.

We all need to start somewhere, keep in mind 3 months ago i was driving a VP Executive AUTO and had driven a manual car maybe two times before in my entire life.

I am also very passionate about my GTR. Only gotta read my GTR thread to understand that! Im very fussy and very pedantic. If you or anyone else ever needs any help with your car (especially GTR's) please do not hesitate to contact me, as a mechanic i am more than happy to help where i can.

Good move with the VP :) Buying a GTR was always my dream too.

    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
