Caught up with YT this morning to pick up some old bits he had left over from the R34 days and he says the Super Alphabet is going to be ok abeit with a weight penalty which I thought was interesting.

Also seems the Skelta's will get a weight penalty too and have to lose the S/C.

Stuart, thanks for clarifying.

Could you also please clarify the rules on gearboxes. Specifically, I'd like to know what you a free to change and what is not. Can we change gear sets provided the same casing, shifting pattern, and number of gears is maintained? Can helical gears be swapped to straight cut, and do the ratios have to remain the same? Failing that, can the lower gear ratios be changed if the the final drive (ie toptop gear) remains the same.

Specifically, I am interested in early modern skyline (LMS I think), and there is no mention of gearboxes until MS. My understanding from previous years was that there was some limited freedoms with respect to gear sets.

As far as I can read Mark the following ONLY apply to MS cars

M19. Gearbox / Transmission / Final Drive

a) The clutch is free.

b) Flywheel is free.

c) The casings and housings must be the same as originally fitted to the vehicle.

d) The number of forward gears must be standard; otherwise the internal components are free.

e) The gear change mechanisms must be as originally specified for the vehicle, other than that shortened or ‘quick’ shifters which do not result in

modification to the casings or housings are permitted. Sequential shift mechanisms are not permitted.

f) The internal components of the differential, axles and drive shafts, are free.

g) Live rear axle equipped vehicles may be modified to incorporate floating rear hubs.

So for LMS the above must remain as per factory specification

That's how I read it too, but from how I read the rules, Z tune and ATTKD and possible 400R are out, but according to Stuart are not, so I just don't know what to go by. I'm not arguing the rules, it's just better to get official clarification from Stuart.

Even if gearboxes are factory, what is the ruling on OEM parts? Can I put a gear set with exactly the same ratios and format (keep them helical not straight), ie only cheaper and/or stronger, or do I have to use genuine Nissan parts?

I think the new rules are great, but I'm not sure I understand the exclusions.

If you read it to the letter, then this also applies to the clutch, which means the skylines would be back to the factory clutch plates which are organic and wear very quickly. Doubt they would even last the whole event.

Under the old rules, as long as it was the same function, ie single plate, you could change for an aftermarket clutch plate, so at least something that would last. Gives no advantage in performance, but at least would last.

Again, I think we need some confirmation here before I start ripping the car apart.

If it is a case of having to be all factory original parts, then we are worse off than before, with the 400R having all sorts of parts advantages, and we go backwards on basic durability parts.

Yes, Steve Glenney is one of the instructors, spoke to Mick who is running the show and it sounds good. I think I'll be doing it. Here is link for outline of the day

http://www.rexnet.com.au/forum/index.php?/...a-training-day/

Brendan Reeves is also involved... One thing from these tutorials is the nav stuff. Having a calm nav because they understand what is required can be worth about 1/2sec/km I reckon

Just doing a wooster and dropping in to the other side for a quick peek. Seems the fallout from the showroom change is more a 4wd thing. Guess the no cat rule last year wasnt quite enough to get the 2wd's to the front. I am glad we had a run in the good old days.

TT

Haha will the fence jokes ever stop!?!?!? :D haha

No chance Ben- it's way too much fun ;)

Speaking of fun- I won't be having any unless I can sort out a new seat.

Yep Handley & Handley looks to be no go for THC.

Anyone know of anyone looking for a nav?

Can't remember who was up on the embankment on the Silverdome this year furiously applying rain-x or trying anything and everything to prevent the screen fogging on day one. Del over on the ip forum tells me he might possibly be able to assist if you want to outlay a few sheckels and avoid the 12v dryers and not so magic potions, never know, might even get snow in November too!

Guilty as charged, and for the first time, rain-x didn't work well enough.

Talk about wet, day 5 on Aerosmith was the worst.

Ah, was thinking about a dark coloured car up the very top of the rise, asked us what we were doing, other than running around like headless chooks. Now I think of it, more than a couple of cars up there.

Aerosmith is pretty bad, although that Tyler bloke with a face like a smashed crab can pull some women! That longish stage on day 5 was almost as revolting, conga lines of cars overtaking then finding no taillights to follow, hard on the picks, repeat to end of stage. :)

Not sure there is skyline data there, suppose the first prerequisite of going at any pace is seeing the road though, screens are supposed to be around $500.

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
