guys, the personal insults are a bit much. let's tone that down a notch pls. hug.gif

johnny, I'm sure you can empathise with the people who were outraged by your temperature management techniques. it is a downright silly thing to do. and yes it does endanger other road users. I have seen bonnets fly open that were not shut properly and it's never pretty. it happens a lot at ammatuer trackdays and as a result people are now requried to affix additional methods of securing the bonnet shut. apart from the obvious danger the cooling benefit of this will not be as good as you think. engine bay airflow is very carefully managed from the factory. and messing it up often sees you go backwards cooling wise.

Can any one offer constructive advice on my post - Ie the pic I have posted, should those pods be enclosed and if so, I know UAS?? do make one, are they any good, any difference between plstic, fibreglass and carbon fibre other than price and looks??

See last few items on this page: http://www.uniqueautosports.com/pricelists...t_gtrturbos.htm

Is it really a must?

Hey guys, Im jst about to purchase a pod filter kit for my r34 gtr, now i was going to go with apexi's kit but i was curious to the other brands such as hks, blitz, trust etc

My stock airbox is fine for power with an apexi panel filter but i would like a louder induction growl and i like the asthetics aspect too so im not just after wank factor.

I would like some pics of various setups if people have them and perhaps some feedback to their quality etc

here is one that i quite like; can anyone identify the brand for me?

is this the apexi kit?

thankyou in advance, i would much appreciate it.

That looks like Shepos GTR...

Anyway the 1st set of pods I think are M's but I believe the look very similar to Blitz pods

APexi look the nices IMO.

I have twin HKS pods atm. Does a great job, makes a nice chrisp sucking and 'Choo' noise. Also it get plenty of air as I have a snorkle feed air.

HKS look coolest and i know they sound good but i heard apexi flows best from a few reviews?

Thats whats in mine when I took you out for a drive at the dyno day LOL!

I also pop my bonnet when i drive at night while i drive to flow fresh/cold air right into the engine bay.

WTF! Seriously DO NOT DO IT AGAIN!

Buddy why do you think you have the grill part where your GTR badge is... To alow air flow.

Nissan designed the car as it is, you should not need to pop the bonnet while driving.

Also you have a NACA Duct on your bonnet to feed air into the engine above the turbo piping.

Dont bother boxing the pods up.

by adding a box your decreasing the volume of air avaliable for the turbos to suck up. regardless of the intake temps by the time the air is compressed by the turbochargers, the temperatures are very high (hence why we need an intercooler)

Not really no.

Same as an airbox, good for 380rwkw with a panel filter so if its getting enough air how is it any different?

And lower the intake charge the better, regardless of what the turbos and intercooler are doing, less cooling required - the better.

So its not regardless, its actually quite important

How is that anywhere near a test?

1. You had the bonnet up during the dyno, with the lid off the airbox

2. Then closed for the road, with the lid on the airbox

Two totally different scenarios, why are you even trying to compare the two?

And you dont just "BOX" the pods, you make inductions to them for gods sake, otherwise whats the point of even having a box?

Trying to explain things to you is like booing at the special olympics.

You 'think' you are always right where i 'know' i am always right.

HAHAHA! i havent laughed so hard for a long time. I 'know' im always right about everything else in life aswell. :P Do your parents own this car? You really seem to have NFI how anything works on it. Everything that R31Nismoid has said has been spot on

Ok i jst ordered the apexi kit.

My dyno results were 235awkw with the bonnet up and half the stock box removed + apexi panel + arc air diversion panel.

I put back the other half of the box and nismo snorkel to do a road test and found a loss in low/mid to top end power.

I will install the pods and take it back to the dyno for a power run (bonnet up/down) and open up another thread with the results.

If the pods are boxed off, there is less air avaliable (volume/litres) and that matters more then a few degrees of temp.

1st up, your on a dyno.

Make sure your on the same dyno as you do your testing as every dyno is different.

From my understanding, the 1st test you did was abit bias as you had removed the some of the air intake elements also you would have had a large fan blasting air right in front of your car to feed the intakes and keep your intercooler chilled.

Then you put everything back on at the road test you felt the power difference...

I dont take advice from jealous losers.

Its ok man, I don't think rb26s13 is jealous, BTW he as 2 x RB26DETT so there is no reason for him to be.

    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
    • Can I suggest you try EBC directly again and link them to as many competitor catalogues as you can to show their listing is incorrect, eg https://dba.com.au/product/front-4000-series-hd-brake-rotor-dba42304/ If you have access to an R33 GTST VIN and your VIN, you could also use a Nissan Parts lookup like Amayama to show them the part number is different between 33 GTST and 34 GTT which may get their attention
    • So i got reply from EBC and they just this site where you can clearly see those 296mm fronts on R34 GTT. I send them photos and "quotes" that 296mm are not for 34 GTT and they are too small. But it will be very hard to return them cuz nobody here knows 100% and they just copy those EBC catalogue :-D https://ebcbrakesdirect.com/automotive/nissan/skyline-r34
    • Hi, is the HKS  Tower Bar still available ? negotiable ? 馃
    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
