hey peps,

so the price of R32 GTRs are dropping massively... so im thinkink upgrade time but by the looks of things the price of the R32 GTS-ts are going down also?

i was just wondering if any1 has made the leep? and been dissapointed?

what's there to be disappointed about? Wider guards, 4wd, extra turbo, factory guages, better seats, wider tyres, better handling all round, hold their value... Do it. id upgrade but i dont have a spare 30k to trade up to my equivalent

yes. your looking at at least 21-23k for a 32gtr, saying that, those skylines may be suspect but fine. 14 is DEFINATELY too low for a 32gtr. id get anything checked, including compression test, before you buy.

Its like everything mate.... you get what you pay for!

My 32 GTSt was a great car, but the GTR is AWESOME!

Totally different to drive, but its great to know you can smoke almost any opposition!!

had 2 r32 gtst and then went r32 gtr....definetly havn't looked back!! Make sure you do alot of research before purchase, GTR's have a few common things to watch out for when purchasing etc, if you need a hand or any advice just throw me a pm.

I wouldn't say 32 GTR prices are dropping... now that they are becoming a collectors item, and with the 35 GTR out, everyone wants a GTR again!

32 GTR's are awesome. Don't get anything under 19k here or in Japan - I've seen some 10k GTR's going on a few import websites and they look very suspect...

It also depends if you want a stock or worked version. There's many, many thrashed examples coming out of Japan that have been drifted and driven into the ground with very poor mantinence. Watch out for the GTR's with accident damage, too. And make sure to check for rust, as some GTR's from certain parts of Japan have rust spots in the guards, boot, etc due to the damp and salty conditions that the cars subjected to.

And never trust the k's on the speedo. They're more than likely wound back (easiest way to tell the mileage of a GTR is to check the steering wheel condition, handbrake and gear shift boot and especially the pedals), so always get the 100,000k service done the minute you buy it.

But overall, if you get a nice, clean, well-maintained example, they're well worth it. They're alot of fun to drive and are a real head turner. And of course, they won't lose their value anytime soon.

If I were to upgrade I would definitely have to drop a rb30 in to it as the lack of torque and how laggy it felt from the one that I drove was quite disappointing.

serious? was it modded or stock. I've found my GTR to be one of the most torqiest cars Ive driven and the 2860-7 turbo's spool up as quik as stock units. Car makes 314rwkw with absolute no lag etc.

Slightly modded. HKS 2510 turbo's. Once up around 4k its quite nice but 3.5k under it feel a little dead.

They feel really linear and smooth with no real bottom end just a constant increasing pull until peak. The nature of twins. :D

Even the stock units are laggy though.. BUT that is in comparison to my own setup which I have grown to.

Compared to a 20t yeah definitely the 26 is a torque monster. The r33 rb25det feels more torquey IMO BUT they do have a much smaller turbo. :(

I'm curious to know what you'd think about your engine vs a dett.... I'd love to get more torque because its true that they do feel dead under that rev range but for that rev range I'm generally just doing the daily street driving... if I wanna go fast I just keep it as close to 5500rpm as possible, only downside is the noise and petrol consumption....

Still I know theres no substitute for displacement, and I'm wondering very much what a 30dett would be like with ISC's turbos >:)

EDIT Oh yeah, as to the original post ; get a gtr if you're not into drifting or pro drag racing. the 4wd makes the car handle so very nicely, but the extra weight is something drifters and draggers try to get rid of (and so they generally get the 2wd versions and put in massive custom engines heh). My gtr's the best car I've ever driven, feels better than porsche 911 and 928s as far as handling is concerned. The way my suspension is setup makes it a very harsh ride (so its not a luxury car, esp not with the r32 interior being so basic) but if you want a car that you can *feel* then the GTR is the way to go

I'm all for DETT.. I would if I could.

Linear power better turbo response due to smaller wheels/less inertia.

Unless its all out drag I personally would not bother with a big single.

Twins improve throttle control compared to a similar sized big single. The singles hit harder create wheel spin that causes drive ability issues out of corners.

Nissan didn't go to the additional expensive of developing parallel twins on their track warrior because twin turbo sounds cool. :P

It is basically a 20 year old car from next year - the 1989 ones... so the prices are bound to be going down nothing suss about the $20k-ish ones... its the ones around $15k and lower that should be a worry. I'd love to get one but I love this car too much to let go :D

    • The wiring diagram for the R33 RB25 is freely available, and is essentially the same same as most other RBs (just with differences as to which pin # does which job). To get the ECU to power up, you just need to provide power to the ECCS relay, and have the other power feeds that come in from the top left of the wiring diagram (wrt the ECU) that give perma power to the fuel pump relay, the ECU itself, etc etc, all connected. When you put power on all these it will just come to life. It's pretty clear from the diagram what needs to happen. Just follow the lines from the 12V + supply stuff in the top left over towards the ECU. I've even posted snips of such diagrams (not for vanilla 25, I think for Neo and 26) to various threads here in the last few months, talking about what it takes to get the fuel pump and FPCM up and going. Search these up and they will help get you started on doing the same with the vanilla 25 diagram. Hell, for all I know, I've done the same with that one in years past and have forgotten.
    • Yep...so unless someone posts up the answer you will need to probe from the ECU connector to the dash plug with a multi meter in continuity mode to trace the wires.  Note the ECU has multiple - and + (and across different key settings - Battery, IGN and Start) and most likely the power is fed from the connector(s) that is normally near the left hand headlight.
    • Thanks Duncan, I am actually just trying to get the Rb turning and running with the RB25DET S2 original loom itself  I am just trying to get it going outside the body and not thinking about the S15 or trying to match anything to the S15 loom at all I am only trying to see if anyone has done this and what pin they found to be the ignition trigger and ECU+/- on the dash connector, that's about it. Thanks  
    • Hi Guys, Does anyone know any aftermarket part numbers for a starter motor to suit the VQ25DET? I can find lots of alternative part number for the VQ35DE, which I assume would fit, but there is a lot of conflicting information out there. Thanks..
    • I don't understand how this hasn't boiled down to - Upgrade the turbo when you have everything required. ECU, injectors, fuel pump, turbo, etc. Do it all at once.  If you don't have everything required, just enjoy the car as it is and keep saving up your pennies.
