I believe they are legal provided that as you said you cannot see the tube itself and you cannot have a red nean on the front or a white neon on the back as people may confuse headlights with brake lights.... apart from that you should be fine...

Sounds like the cop just wanted to give you a hard time...

rollaboyz website has a write-up on thier car legality session deeming what is legal and what is not.

Neons ARE legal

Colour is irrelevant.

on the Proviso you cant see the tube! (looks shit if you can anyway)

see thier site for more details.

p.s. all cops are tosser's. if your gonna have neons, dont use them on the road!

ok but my point is why sell the equipment if u cant use it you know its a conspiracy i swear get us to buy it goverment makes money fines us for having it government makes money gets us to remove it go to pits government makes money and after all that money the cops still have a nerve to ask for a pay rise and asking for the publics support in all good words blow me thats BS there are kids killing each other and taking drugs yet they make neons and blow offs such a big fkn problem

Sr20ist - it's all modifications, and the retailers sell them as a show/race accessory (that is, all items eg bov's). It isn't a conspiracy dude :D

But saying that, a mate got pulled up by police, and they couldn't find ANYTHING on his car to defect him with, but they had it in their minds to give him a yellow ... so what did he get it for?? His little smelling tree that hangs off the rear view mirror!!

They all have their own ideas of the law, but it's a verified fact (which the pits agree with) that your neons are allowed to be on, and on the road, as long as noone can see the tubes ... you may be able to pick up permits for them perhaps..?

After a session with Reno at the Department of Transport he informed us that neons were legal, even driving with them. The only condition was that the tube was not visible from standing around the car.

So as long as the neon tube is hidden well you shouldn't have a problem.

Of course cops on the road will argue the point but if yo udo get stickered go see Reno down at Welshpool and he will clear your car.

I dont think that you're gonna get a permit for your neons.

Just like you wont get a permit for your subwoofah or your pedals/paint/gearknob because they do not affect the impact crashworthiness or mechanical function/capacity of the car.

Like Dan said, if you cop a sticker for your neons, go to welshpool and plead your case to Reno.

Provided that everything else on the vehicle is legal, they will tear up the work permit for you. However, if you do not have the good fortune of everthing on your car being 100% legal, then you can hardly complain that the policemen was misinformed, and that it wasnt your neons, but your welded diff that he should have stickered you for.

So my advice is, if you want people to look at your car, then expect attention in all its wonderful forms.

and if you've got a bomb held together with gaffa and zip ties, dont make it glow like a freakin xmas tree.

Sr20ist

the neons are completely legal while you are driving as long as the tubes are not visible. Regardless of what everyone else says they are completely legal.

Pits will let you go if they dont then you can contest it because new laws state that they are.. Been threw it all her in W.A

cheers

    • Absolute f*cking nightmare. I had to take breaks constantly, and I was always pissed off when I got home. The line split in Italy on day 2 (we drove from the Netherlands), lol. Driving any narrow European town was... well, sh*t.   Appreciate it man. Here, I'll just drop a favourite from the load I took on Saturday.   I'll update here when things happen with the car, the thing is, with stock power and almost everything chassis-wise taken care of, there really are no problems. 268,000kms now and counting.
    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
