one of my mates from the Norwood Station knows nothing about cars but has been trained to look for obvious things like BOV's, hand controllers, turbo timers, boost gauges, boost controllers, unsecured pods and obvious things like wheels, exhaust, slammed, etc etc etc

yeah that sounds about right! i never had any real problems with cops, they ask me if i have a bov i say yes, but it's the standard plum back put onto the ic pipe, which is true btw! i have no turbo timers, guages or anything in the cabin besides the hand controller which is under a pile of stuff in the glove box! car isn't loud so they've never really wanted to waste anytime trying to find a defect on my car! generally let me go but before when my car was fully kitted up with bling all over the place under the bonnet they wasted time looking for defects!

It all depends on which cop you get, Pete.

From experience, some know more about what to look for than others.

There's many experienced cops out there that I've encountered who are very knowledgable about what to look for, and these are the ones who will praise you or compliment on the fact that you've done a modificaion legally (eg. having your pod secured, or placing a gauge in a legal and safe place in the cabin).

no doubt :)

as i mentioned on sat night, i got pulled over sat night on the way to my olds for dinner.

on maint nth rd, pulled over by a bike cop for an RBT

he asked if i had been drinking, i POLITELY said no, not today.

while the test was processing, he had a walk up and down the side of my car, kneeled down to my rims

and said ''nice wheels''.

i said thank-you, the price tag was nice to, he giggled, said i was clear, told me to have a good night and drive safely.

so......being polite, saved me from more than an RBT.

he could have easily defected me for multiple, many, heaps, stacks lots of shit.

but because i was polite, i kept him in a good mood :)

still scared the f**k outta me though.

lol at people trying to get others to be honest to cops...... id rather come across as a dick head and avoid a defect than be a polite citizen and have my car go thru regency....

lol

did you know that they can issue fines as well as a defect? ask anyone that was at the SAU dyno day and overheard the cop that defected my car telling me about each fine he could have issued me.

theres things called "Breach of ADR's" fines

and if you're a smart arsed flamin mongrel the cop can issue as many fines as he likes depending on your breaches

ie wheels - 1 fine

suspension - 1 fine

exhaust - 1 fine

engine modifications - 1 fine

and from memory (i didnt get a breach of ADR's fine but he did mention he could have) they're about $300 per fine

so to emphasise what everyone else has said, dont give them lip. at the end of the day (whether they're a flamin mongrel cop that has something against modded cars, or one of the nicer cars that understands us) they're doing their job. They go to work to do a job. Unfortunately this is part of their job.

imagine someone coming into your work (or coming up to you at work) and being a rude arsehole about what you're doing or the way you're doing it. think if you would appreciate someone doing that to you and being an out and out liar

and i think you got a lil confused here

this phrase

" id rather come across as a dick head and avoid a defect than be a polite citizen and have my car go thru regency"

should read as such

" id rather come across as a polite citizen and avoid a defect than be a dick head and have my car go thru regency"

/rant

i should have clarified my statement more, when i was saying "dick head" it was an over statement for what ruby was describing, someone who dosent own up to the modifications done to the car.....please, im not dumb enought to tell a cop to get f**ked............

2 everyone else, i new i was going 2 get defected soon or later and the cop was going to defect me no mattrer what i said so i just took on the chin and accepted it, maybe if there was only 1 noticable defect i might of got off with a warning

the cop said "we do this because we want to teach you a lesson that you are wasting your time modifying your car thats why we send you to regency" he even told me where i can get my wheels engineered and the price and what to do with the certificate when i go to regency

Matty you are right about the fines but it was $209 per defect and wanted to charge me per wheel

regency these days are alot more tough to get thru too.

been thru 3 times. but the last time (2 months ago) was a joke. had 2 ppl going thru my whole car. kick panels were off. glove boxes open. the whole thing. I didnt pass because of tie rod ends and castor rods and piss weak things that make the car better. my 34 is the most roadworthy car ive ever been in , yet it doesnt pass.

If you dont pass the first time you cant renew the rego either, you have to have the car towed everywhere. which is why im so pissed of atm and stressed.

as far as i was last aware, body panels (inside ones especially) werent meant to be removed if they were bolted in place, rules must have changed then......hmmm

deff changed. I had a nice guy looking thru my car. then a young guy who thought he was some sort of car f**kin champion king dick came over and ripped things off. I dont mind him doing his job at all, its what they get paid for. But surely they should realise they are normal humans. not super beings.

yeah the guy was always smiling. asking me questions he already knew the answer too. trying to make me slip. In the end I just sat down and almost fell asleep.

I said to them 'It doesnt look to good for me does it'

they said 'nah, it doesnt ' and smiled.

    • What an awesome idea to fit the facelift Lamborghini Diablo headlights. They are a perfect fit!
    • An update regarding the registration with the DVLA I sent off the paperwork the day after I collected the car from the port, two weeks later it was all returned with a letter explaining they have rejected the application. This was because the cheque was £20 short for the road tax (I used a price list I found online). Nevermind it is what it is, it was sent back to them the following day with a new cheque. Fast forward another 2 weeks or so, I called them for an update to be told it had been rejected. Yesterday (16th September) I received the documents back along with another letter, this time it was because I didn't put an X in one box on the V750 (personalised number plate certificate), which declared that I had the rights to the personalised number plate. Why this wasn't mentioned in the first rejection letter, I don't know, but it could have saved this headache. The documents were sent back today, so fingers crossed third times a charm and it'll FINALLY be registered on the road just in time for the bad weather (woohoo!) To cheer myself up I lowered the front 25mm, was sick of seeing it sit like a monster truck. No idea how much clearance I'll have getting on and off the driveway, I'll worry about that when I can actually drive it
    • You're going to miss not worrying about rust in the strut towers like the Skyline shitboxes out there
    • A few little updates that weren't filmed due to not taking long to do or not interesting enough for their own video. My new K&N Air Filter arrived, I went with an RU-4180 which matched the dimensions of the universal cone filter the car originally had.  The battery had gone flat, while that was charging I tidied up the spaghetti wiring at the bulk head and down the sides of the engine Next job was to swap the stereo The Kenwood harness had the female ISO plugs cut off and the male ISO plugs cut off the adaptor loom and joined with bullet connectors. I ordered in a repair loom through work and re-did it all. New Kenwood unit installed (Android Auto, DAB, Bluetooth, Reverse Camera) The bonnet/hood gas struts have been poor since collecting the car. I couldn't find any suitable replacements locally so took a chance on a pair from AliExpress.  The originals don't use a retaining clip to secure the cup onto the ball fixture, would explain why I struggled for 10-15mins trying to pry off the cups. The ball fixtures unscrew using a 12mm spanner, new ones are the same size. Sadly no photo of them fitted, you're not missing much lol The dished Momo steering wheel got replaced with my Momo Tuner, turns out I ordered counter sunk bolts for the horn trim ring (like they normally are for the steering wheel) instead of allen cap (flat seat)  A terrible photo of a Quaife style gear shift knob I've had stashed in my tool box for many years after purchasing the incorrect thread size (I can see a pattern emerging with ordering incorrect parts...) Also threw in a cup holder and a (empty) Boss Coffee can, because why not
    • GT-R clearly the better choice! The 300 is certainly not insaly fast but has a decent amount of poke. Does a nice little drift around the corners with a decent amount of throttle. It's VERY predictable in a slide too.  Feels so progressive! People probably presume there's a 25 year old driving it based on my behaviour this week! 🤣
