Nigel

Thanks Nigel

I never even gave one of those a thought, I was under the impression you needed an i-pod to use them.

Wonder it the lighter works?

Anyway, pulled the gear box out today and found the friction plate glued to the pressure plate so I'll order a new clutch tomorrow. Pulled all the seats out to get the old carpet up (smells like there's a dead rat in there somewhere :) ) and replace with something better, will give everything else a good clean while the seats are out.

Found a 2 or 2 1/4 inch stainless exhaust with a single walker muffler out back, looks to be fairly new. Also noticed that the fly wheel and pressure plate have been balanced, is that a factory thing or has it been done later?

Cheers Dan

Easiest place to score parts for your engine is from an early 80s r30's. There are still plenty of them around. They run an L24 like yours, but with injection. Be sure to grab the electronic distributor and coil if you find it.

Your CD player fits in the glovebox a treat. The inner glovebox comes out (6 screws), and you run the wires through one of factory the holes in the top of it like this...

So.....

I pulled my glove box out tonight in preparation for fitting of the new stereo and guess whats tucked up in behind there?

Long story.....car was parked in a paddock for 12-18 months, pushed it onto a trailer and towed it home. Noticed a fairly nasty smell while trying to get it going but didn't think to much of it, left it in the shed with all windows down, doors/boot open for a good week to air out, yep that'll fix it :(

Rear seat was out when I got it, I pulled the passenger seat out to fix one of the rails and the console came out when I took the gearbox out. Thought I may as well take the drivers side out and remove all the carpet and underlay cause that's obviously where the "smell that will out last religion" is coming from.

Wrong again.....Gave everything a good clean all the trims and stuff, ahhh looks a million bucks now :D

The stench seems to be fading or maybe I'm just getting used to it?

Anyway.....so I pull out the glove box and notice some underlay/sound deadner tucked up behind the gauge cluster and I think.....that's odd.....surely putting sound deadner there would be a bit of a fire hazard with all the electrical stuff going on?

Start removing deadner and the stench starts getting stronger again, buried in amongst all that shit was a f@#k off big, dead, semi-decomposed rat or maybe it was a possum? any way I fell a little sick now but hoping that was the only one living in there :)

There's a big, dead rat in there....nasty :)

Yeah, I knew it was cheap for a reason

I got my mirrors yesterday too, thanks coupe.

Got the clutch kit as well to go in, and $2.50 worth of black vinyl for a new gear shifter boot.

So much to do :D

    • I've looked up the parts number (41011AL501). It's around $700 OEM. Usually our Infiniti G35 here in Canada have interchangeable parts with my Stagea but the parts number are not the same. I have looked around and it seems the JDM 2005 V35 Skyline (which is the same as our G35) has the same caliper but I cannot confirm. And I can't find a repair kit. The inner brake pads drags on the rotor, seems to be rusty piston. Thanks for the info by the way
    • This coupled with 6-9 speed autos with ridiculously short gearing is why these modern shitbox cars always seem so fast off the line. If it wasn't for those things, Raptors would not seem fast. The problem we have is there is a driveability gap between a more gentle take off and a wheelspinning sideways launch. The difference between ankle flex required to achieve one and ankle flex required to achieve the other is about 0.5°.
    • Yeah I think I'm also with the opposite here. It's 'hard to keep up with traffic' because in the real world I'm accelerating with 15% throttle and they are pinning it. It feels like I'm being an overt dickhead at anything above 15% throttle, so the car sounds like I'm being an overt dickhead to keep up with/get ahead of traffic when I'm really just trying to drive with traffic. There would be no issue 'keeping up with traffic' if we used the same level of throttle input/aggression to drive around. People really do just drive around with their foot nearly pinned in econoboxes.
    • To be fair it's the other way around. 300kw is boring in a modern Golf or BMW. They are so competent / well-engineered / devoid of emotion that you have to go stupid fast to feel anything. Whereas the <300kw RB still makes all the right noises and it feels good to drive. Can pull off at the lights with the turbo whooshing and the blow-off pssshing and feel like the coolest kid on the block. Just don't look to the side where you'll see the bored housewifes in their shitbox Yaris/Corolla/Camry that kept up because you didn't go fast at all
    • 300kW is so boring in a Skyline, you'll get spanked by someone's mum's Golf with Alibaba pipes, and an email tune.
