I dont think its a bad idea, to be honest paying a few hundred dollars for the price of a plate then reseeling it in a years time or when you can get good money for i think is worth while. I have been looking into doing the same, i have found a combination that i know i will get money. There is a difference between doing this and a scalper. A scapler will buy a ticket to a concert, then after the concert is over you only have the memories (and a light wallet), a number plate you can have for as long as you want and have something tangable that you can hold in your hands not just a memory.

Whats the difference in buying a number plate, holding on to it for a period of time then selling it for a profit to buying a second property, holding on to it for a bit then selling it at a profit when the demand is there?

I think it is smart investment and good luck to you if you can get 5k, 10k or even 500 bucks.

Isn't this akin to the days where one could happily buy a .com address and then sell it on and retire?

Nah , youd be a scalper type if you did that, lol.

Youve managed to come up with an analogy i couldnt because i was too frustrated.

I dont know what its worth but all the hype surrounding the GTR has only served to prove the plates were a good idea a year ago.

Im sure there are plenty of other people who have secured the various combinations in all the states so good luck to them.

Also good luck to you.

I think its worth what ever someone wants to pay really.

Like i said, having the plates is nice even if i cant afford the car at the moment.

i dont really feel all the negativity is really needed in this thread.

This is the way the world works. If you can make money doing something people do it.

m3gtr, im sure youll be able to make money off all the plates you have. just dont try to sell them stupidly expensive.

goodluck to you. if you you didnt buy these plates im sure someone else on the forum would have.

i just went out and bought some plates myself

R35GTR was available on V-plates but when i went in it wasnt ;)

so i got CBAR35 instead

What does the CBA stand for?

Not in banking are you?

You are all obviously pissed you didnt think of it yourself, this man is smart and will make astronomical amounts of cash from these plates.

Half the pussys who buy the r35 are going to be loaded wankers and a 10k number plate is a walk in the park because to his mates hes the bloke who blew 10k on a plate (it makes him tough) to us it just makes him a wanker.

Nice work snapping up the plates!

theres nothign wrong with what this bloke did. he seized on a business opportunity and will make money from it.

he did nothing illegal.

he did nothing immoral

he bought something, and will sell it later - like buying art and then selling it. why would u give him sh1t? he took the initiative to apply for the plates and paid cash and picked them up.

I wish i bought VL2NV before that one sick leb did!

    • Nope.    Grab a varex and turn it down as you get close to home, win win?
    • So, I've had my V36 for about a month now and have already copped an "excessive exhaust noise" notification from QLD TMR, reported by someone in my local area. It's a twin as per the original, and can have a bit of a throaty note to it when idling cold 😄 and if I do get up it a bit, it can be noisy, but it did pass a roadworthy inspection before sale, so.... ... but in the interest of being a good neighbour, I do want to quieten it down a bit. Is anyone here running a quiet aftermarket cat-back on their V36 or 370Z? And the big, bold question: does an aftermarket cat-back really make much of a performance difference on these cars?
    • The wiring diagram for the R33 RB25 is freely available, and is essentially the same same as most other RBs (just with differences as to which pin # does which job). To get the ECU to power up, you just need to provide power to the ECCS relay, and have the other power feeds that come in from the top left of the wiring diagram (wrt the ECU) that give perma power to the fuel pump relay, the ECU itself, etc etc, all connected. When you put power on all these it will just come to life. It's pretty clear from the diagram what needs to happen. Just follow the lines from the 12V + supply stuff in the top left over towards the ECU. I've even posted snips of such diagrams (not for vanilla 25, I think for Neo and 26) to various threads here in the last few months, talking about what it takes to get the fuel pump and FPCM up and going. Search these up and they will help get you started on doing the same with the vanilla 25 diagram. Hell, for all I know, I've done the same with that one in years past and have forgotten.
    • Yep...so unless someone posts up the answer you will need to probe from the ECU connector to the dash plug with a multi meter in continuity mode to trace the wires.  Note the ECU has multiple - and + (and across different key settings - Battery, IGN and Start) and most likely the power is fed from the connector(s) that is normally near the left hand headlight.
    • Thanks Duncan, I am actually just trying to get the Rb turning and running with the RB25DET S2 original loom itself  I am just trying to get it going outside the body and not thinking about the S15 or trying to match anything to the S15 loom at all I am only trying to see if anyone has done this and what pin they found to be the ignition trigger and ECU+/- on the dash connector, that's about it. Thanks
