Hey guys,

after a long search, i managed to get myself a blitz spec r that didn't force me to sell body parts to fund the purchase.

Second hand purchase and i'm not sure i've got everything i need to hook it up?

this is what i've got...

and then found this listing on ebay, which i "think" shows what comes with it if you buy it brand new

and then i found the manual, and i do seem to be missing some stuff

parts.jpg

question is though, do i have enough to get it all working. I suppose the main part is that i have the controller and the solenoid... but i don't seem to have any pluggy bits :D (don't know what you call it)

so yeah, was this a wasted purchase, or can i get it working?

cheers,

chinny

given what the yen and usd are doing now :D it was cheap

see i don't have those plug things at the end of the wires.... the 'harness'? do i need them, or i can i just wire the stuff in? could i buy those little plug ends from an electronics store and just split the wires into the plug?

from the parts list and paul's brand new kit from an i-colour, looks like i'm missing..

- extra vacuum line (black)

- rubber house (blue)

- white plastic hose join (for black vacuum line)

- end plug things

- wire taps

- t piece

would i be able to buy that sort of stuff from electronics stores?

i have a feeling he gave me an older style solenoid. It's dual, but not the one for a spec r. You can seem from paul's solenoid there are blue and white wires, just like mine.

yet, when i check ebay at the other spec-r's for sale (they've all popped up now after i bought mine damn it!) there is a mysterious purple wire that comes from the solenoid. So that's 3 wires from the solenoid, white/purple/blue.

Can any who has a spec-r confirm if they have 3 coloured wires from their solenoid?

i paid via paypal, so i have some protection... but this guy was like a platinum seller, and he confirmed for me it was a spec-r boost controller.

bugger. I was checking as many spec-r pics as i could and EVERY one has 3 wires for the solenoid, that must be one of the differences between the original Dual SBC that DiRTGarage was selling, and the Spec-R.

I'm going back and forth with the seller trying to tell him i do not have a spec-r solenoid, but he's playing hard ball at the moment.

thanks for your help guys.

i managed to sort out a refund for the one i got, and then luckily found this one on ebay for about $20,

looks a bit more complete :)

and you can see clearly here that the Spec-R solenoid picks up an extra wire (PURPLE) don't know if i need it, but at least i know i have all the right stuff now

anyways, thanks for helping to confirm things for me. The one i originally got probably would have done the job, but i feel a lot more comfortable having bought the second one

cheers,

daniel

ok, the 'take two' Spec-R arrived the other day, and it's getting installed tomorrow..

doing it after hours with a mate and his workshop, but neither of us has installed one before.

just wondering if there is anything we should be mindful of? any tips/tricks? good places to put the solenoid and bc in the cabin?

i think i read somewhere the solenoid shouldn't be more than 1 metre away from the turbo, i think

anyways, any tips would be great

cheers,

daniel

    • I certainly fall into the annoyed camp, but glad to hear that if it's happening at low boost then I'm not likely going to blow a turbo and end up with metal shards in my oil. Just feels like it prevents me from really driving it without hesitation and "peak" performance. Wonder if it's the VCAM, it did an impressive job of shifting the torque curve and faster spool, but maybe now it's "too fast" and there's too much air for how open the throttle is.  Based on some other threads, will also do some reading on synchronizing the actuators. They are the default actuators that come on the Garrett's and I would think they would be set the same coming from the factory, but if the turbos don't actually work exactly the same way at the same time as previously mentioned, it would be worth making sure the actuators are actuating together properly
    • I went down this rabbit hole before, ended up sourcing a motor from the UK (I'm in Japan) which also didn't function correctly. With the original motor, I disassembled it and reassembled it and it works somewhat, sometimes. What I could deduce from all my screwing around is that there is calibration of the gears on the inside of the motor and two ramps on the main gear which activate switches that operate the motor and move the sunroof either to retract into the roof or tilt. Where I got stuck was that, it seemed in my case that one or both of the switches that are activated by the ramp on the gear did not always activate and thus the motor did not move, causing it to sometimes not retract or tilt (apologies, I've forgotten which way it didn't work.).  Of course this part is discontinued at Nissan now, it's the same part in the S15 but no other models. I also contacted the manufacturer of the component for schematics - forgot the name, they're based in Gifu - but they declined to share the information due to being bound by an NDA, sadly. Looking through my pictures now, it seems I last had a crack at this in 2022. See, I so kindly wrote "open" and "close" next to the switches. If you figure it out, please do tell me. Those little switches, with the red buttons may need to be replaced.
    • It says 300ZX, does that make it an Aus delivered car? Funny how back in the day I just couldn't care less about Z32's and these days I am just in love with them. Back when Nissan was into pushing the envelope. 🤣
    • Hi guys, just after some guidance with an R34 sunroof that has stopped working correctly. It still opens and closes perfectly fine, but it no longer tilts/vents up or down. As a result, the rear of the glass now sags a bit as it drops down slightly in order to retract into the roof, but now it can't pop upwards into a flush position. I’ve probed the pins on the back of the switch connector with a multimeter and it seems like both switches (for open/close and tilt/vent) still work correctly. Any ideas on what it could be, or where I should even start in terms of diagnosing? I'm sure someone's had this issue before but I haven't been able to find anything online relating to this specific issue, most of the issues are with the seals leaking or the motor failing entirely. Thanks in advance!
