Hey guys/gals,

OK basically the other day i noticed once i moved my car off my driveway that there were a few spots of oil on the ground. Was a little worried about it but as it was only a few little drips i wasn't worried...

...Until i opened the bonnet.

JESUS!

Massive amounts of oil EVERYWHERE!.. like up on my bonnet and all down the wiring harnesses under the plenum.. everywhere..

i was like WTF!.. had a look around and noticed the Dip Stick to be popped out a lil from where it should be.

I was like "PHHEWWW" thinking its a much smaller issue than i thought. Must of just sprayed from the dip stick (because i had to refill some oil the day beforehand, and maybe i didn't put it back in properly)

So i popped it back in and took it for another drive (after cleaning the engine bay a lil lol)

Opened her back up and AGAIN the Dip Stick is out with the oil making a huge mess.

Now for the last few weeks since my oil change (that a mechanic did) my car has been blowing ALOT of smoke (dark smoke so not turbo related or anything) but i thought it must be from the oil change and stuff..

I asked what oil the mechanic used.. he said "20W-50" i was like WHHHAATT!!

He assured me it was OK. But i was sure to use 10W-40 as Ive done some reading on here about it.

So guys there is some info on my situation..

Just wondering what it might be?

1) Black smoke from the exhaust

2) Dip Stick popping out a lot

3) Seemed to also be burning a lot of oil

I'm thinking that my oil rings might be screwed?

Any helps would be great!

Thanks,

Elliott

Black smoke is just unburnt fuel so a tune will fix

Dip stick blowing out is excessive pressure in the sump which could be:

-nothing and just a old seal on the dipstick(fix with a layer of heat shrink)

-Blow by from forged piston ring gaps (get a better oil/air seperator)

-Blow by from damaged pistons

-To much oil

Do a compression or leak down test

If it's burning oil it will be a light grey colour not black, if it has blow by the car may be injesting fresh oil through the polution system

20W-50W is better for summer and if your car has blow by.

^Thanks for that mate. taking it to a Mechanics tomorrow so hopefully they can help out a little.

But I had my car tuned not long ago and it solved the smoke from blowing out. Now its happening worse (a month to a couple months after the tune) and only really at higher revs. Not normally when on idle (although sometimes it does)

Apparently the car does have forged pistons (so the previous owner told me) so maybe its that.

i had a dipstick keep blowing out on one of my speedway engines once all i did was hook a small spring to the top of the dipstick and hook it somewhere that held it tight problem solved lol

Same thing happened to me and it turned out to be rings in piston 6 and another piston, cant remember the other piston number, were gone. Didn't keep blowing the dipstick out tho other symptons were identical with the oil and stuff :P except the black smoke but, as i drove i noticed the light grey smoke as mentioned on deceleration. Had a compression test done sure enough six was gone so had to rebuild :D . Hope your situation gets resolved and is less expensive than a rebuild. Good Luck mate!!!

Why did you have to re-fill the oil if the Mechanic had just done a service. I'd say you've overfilled her by quite a long shot. Check your oil level on flat ground.

had to refill because it was burning a hell of alot of oil.. was almost empty (and i checked on level ground aswell) i didnt overfill.. i put it in enough to get it between low and high on the dip stick, right in the middle. It even blows out the dip stick on fairly low oil LOL

LOL.. nice one lol

thanks mate. I hope its not aswell.. I will be doing a rebuild later on but i need a quick fix for now so i can save up the money lol.

Im hoping to get a compression test soon if i can. How much do they normally cost?

and yeah when i went on the cruise for NSW SAU they noticed alot of smoke when i was driving. I caught a pic of it when i was ging down hill.. the Smoke was light grey. But on my bumper is so much black stuff its not funny. Like rediculous.

heres a pic where you can see the smoke a little

Had the breathers checked today. All seems fine and they arent blocked. Including PCV Valve etc

Would you notice a difference with power if i had a cracked piston? as it doesnt seem to be losing power at all. Boost spools up well and everything.

hmmm i also went to "JEM" out my way and they believe i need a rebuild. ill try the new dipstick to just be sure. and then if its still doing it ill go for the rebuild..

GAY!

    • ok so if i wanted to go 18's i would go for 8's  in front 30+ or 32+ off set at front and the back 9 would be ok? what offset should i aim for.. then can i do some  hunting for wheel rim choices..    If i get this - will this fit all around: Size: 18 x 8.5 +37 - n what tyres size tyre should i get for front n back?
    • Absolute f*cking nightmare. I had to take breaks constantly, and I was always pissed off when I got home. The line split in Italy on day 2 (we drove from the Netherlands), lol. Driving any narrow European town was... well, sh*t.   Appreciate it man. Here, I'll just drop a favourite from the load I took on Saturday.   I'll update here when things happen with the car, the thing is, with stock power and almost everything chassis-wise taken care of, there really are no problems. 268,000kms now and counting.
    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
