You know i agree with you roo +1 for the police leaving you guys alone

-1 for the poor guy driving the marron 33 that got hassled out at modbury bp thurs night, all he did was pull up put petrol in and then got the "can you pull over here so i can check your car out" then striaght to other side of his car for his paper work and tape measure.

Then after he had finished with his paper work (defect) he then thought he would park in front of my car to wait for me to exit servo,15mins i had to wait in the servo for before he left, and you know i dont wish to attract attention. Just goes to show that not all police are out to co-operate with us

As Nene outlined in the other thread. All hoods were popped.

Maybe fine for a Stagea cruise where the cars a predominately stock but for a Skyline cruise where a few have high mounts etc its definitely not wise to cruise under Kellie Umbrella.

Its great to have a relationship with the police and for them to show their presence possibly ensure tyres are all good but for them to pop your hoods and have a look is just ludicrous.

Its more of Defect Kellie cruise for those that have anything more than a stock turbo.

Funny thing is its usually the idiots with just a front mount exhaust and a little boost that cause the most trouble or the odd tag along VN commodore/falcons.

Almost a tad worried now If those associated with the police attend other events organised such as Dyno days etc if the police will 'attend' :S

This is ONE of the primary reasons I backed off from setting up SAU/SA as all it was going to turn in to was a Street Cruise club. SAU/SA Motorsport only. bah Nissan Datsun car club FTW.

Agreed Cubes

People dont realise, by making all these threads, making such a big deal about it...your making it worse. Let it be.

maybe I'm a little suspicious & cautious due to the nature of the job but I generally like to question things that don't sit right with me........Kellie has spoken to me on the phone and tried to put my concerns to rest but its not my car they'll go after so I'm more concerned for some of the other sensible car enthusiasts here that like to mod their rides but aren't hoons

Agreed, Thanks Pete.

The police asked us who we thought were the trouble makers and we mentioned the tag alongs. They have given us direct contact details for them and we will use that option when tag-alongs/hoons are involved.

One SAUer has been caught out for slagging the police on here.

I appreciate your efforts guys but I still have a reservation as to the ultimate agenda or why else would all bonnets be popped & regos be taken if hoon driving was the key agenda?

You'll have to define that one to Roo.......I would think dangerous mods would be inside the boot (ie Nos) or externally (ie tyres, dark tint, & ride height). This is why Cubes & others are questioning the popping of the bonnets because ultimately, a young kid in a stock VN Commodore can do 160kph on Tapleys Hill Road also.

The ultimate focus should be on (sorry kids) young drivers and their ability to handle their ride & their testosterone. The WRX in question would not have a fraction of the power that some of the Skylines have but still capable of high speed & a death trap in the hands of the (usually young) hoons.

Falcodore owners are no different.

If they are freaked out over the WRX saga (which I'm sure they are) then focus on driving behaviours........cars don't go fast, people do!!

Maybe we're being lulled into a false sense of security, maybe not Pete. Fact is, there were 25 cars they could have defected since people here believe that "we will always encounter cops on a power trip" and "90% of them won’t even know what it is/care ... They will still defect you" ... but 25 cars were not defected. Some people just seem to not have happy lives since they fear the worst will always happpen. I've encountered cops many times in the stagea and on my (modified) bikes and I've always had the quick glance, licence check and sent on my happy merry way.

Oh, when I said excessive mods, I meant "dangerous" mods Pete :D A bov isn't dangerous, so only a warning was given. Bold tyres on the other hand would have attracted a defect.

I'm sure their main target are young hoons ... but Mr Rann has put the hot poker up everyone's arse to make import drivers (and bikers/bikies) life tougher.

That sucks Damo. I know you got that car and went about righting a few wrongs with it. I'm not saying all cops are saints, but they aren't all bad either. I've encountered a bad cop myself once. Bike got defected, I knew it was defectable, didn't argue that point, but it was the way he went about it. Still, I've had far more good experiences than not, yesterday was a good example.

Did you get the missus's car sorted?

firstly, if your not a member of ns.com, attend any of their cruises or take part in discussion on the forum, then its best to leave them out of this...SAU is a joke to NS.com

secondly, referring to previous cruises about 25 stagea's not being defected is irrelevant. Today is a new day, another police officer, different opinion, different attitude. We dont 'cruise' everywhere, everyday together so we can't be under this 'umbrella' you speak of 99% of the time. We must face the consequences for our own modifications we do, as individuals. Broadcasting all this bullshit is only going to attract more attention to the matter and cause more trouble for us all when we are targetted alone.

hmmm, some stags in photos looked "dangerously" low to me :D

I for one cant agree with popp'n bonnets etc. I sit with Cubes here.....

Fact is I NEVER get pulled over Roo, I cant understand how you do so often?

Once in 10yrs of riding (last time I was pulled over, 8+yrs ago), and obviously never once in the Stagea (not even breatho) in 42months of ownership.

Whilst I have no problem conversing with the police and assuring them Im not a bad guy, and whilst my car is highly modified it also looks dead stock.... but Id be arguing about the bonnet lifting of all cars, and if they went INTO my car Id ask for their reasoning and start taking notes. Every citizen has rights including those in position of authority, so make sure you "defend" yourself as best you can - even if nothing warrents you to go on the defence.

The lowered stags right on 100mm (or lower) is of concern to me (ruins tyres/handling) more so than engine mods. The cops didnt do their job IMHO.

there was a thread going back a couple months ago, about being defected... where the sauer flamed this cop big time.. its there if you can be bothered finding it, and really want to know more.

F*cking spot on the mark there, Pete! Couldn't agree more.

lol cronic, no one is going to read that........keep it short & simple bud :D

Lol I work in Government. I have all the time in the world! Hahahah :)

Yep, spot on. I've been on many of their cruises (Mega Cruise, Dawn Cruise and a handful of others) and they attract a massive range of cars... and also peoples driving abilities!

Theres been plenty of other cruises with 25 cars or so in the past and with other car clubs throughout Adelaide with the chance of Police rocking up and leaving again - its not just THIS cruise that they left you guys alone - although I wouldnt be surprise if they took down notes of mods and numberplates for "future references".

99.9% of the time they wouldnt be interested in doing anything anyways unless someone is being an idiot then they would most likely go field day on everyone... but even that I've only "heard of" happening through the internet.

I agree with that, we don't need to stuff up good discussion with gossip & hearsay

there was a thread going back a couple months ago, about being defected... where the sauer flamed this cop big time.. its there if you can be bothered finding it, and really want to know more.

I'm guessing its that one where the Police made a mistake and retracted the defect yet that member came on here to slag off the Police and the many post following were slagging the Police off too?

u guys are not the least bit suspicious that they popped your bonnet and took your rego? you dont think that is going to come back and bite you in the ass?

it has happened many a time before, a simple note goes into the computer and pops up next time you are pulled over or rego checked by a radom officer of the law.

F*cking spot on. Has happened to my good mate, too!

Why is that Ryan? I would think it is the other way around. But anyhow, I am with pete and cubes here too.

Many times in the past (with other clubs too) we have tried to involve police and to work together to create a rapport and identify what are 'legal' mods that you won't be hassled for and create a definitive list so there is no confusion.

After approaching police and the minister for transport we got nowhere.... hence this is the same old story.

I feel there may have been a different outcome if it were a skyline cruise too as the stags are fairly inconspicuous as most of their owners will attest... or has this now changed too??

    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
