Gt35r Vs Garrett T04z - Discussion (just Post In This Thread To Create A Database)

Recommended Posts

Turbo characteristics are gonna be different on the 30 than 25 or 26 setups. what about the hybrids. im throwin up ideas at the moment of ideal setups to maxiumize HP within scope of tracking and some street. and so far ive scaled down to these 2;

GT35R X82 S.S 25/30 Final 3.9

To4Z x106 T.S 26/30 Final 3.5

Oh ps. the TO4Z in the Equation will be the HKS item.

My mate has a T04Z on his 25/30 and I am in the process of putting a GT35R on my 25/30, I guess I should use the same dyno/tuner to keep the intrawebz fanbase happy ;)

The fact that one is 4wd and the other isn't, shouldn't make much a difference?

This will be interesting - do you have a dyno plot in storage somewhere which could be overlayed with the T04Z one to see how much more lag etc you get on the same engine spec?

Any reason for going the T04Z over something like a GT4088R? Shame the GTX-series turbos aren't out for a bit, I have a feeling if Garrett do a GTX3582R T04Zs will lose a bit of their edge

Yup, dyno plots are saved and engine combo isn't changing, so it's literally just going to be a bolt off bolt on situation.

0.84 twin scroll T04Z ordered... will be here Friday, fitted Monday, tuned Wednesday.

um Drivability wise sure it would, but i think main emphisis on power output wont be much different if the 4wd has only 2wd engaged at time time, and they both share the same Ratios.

Id be keen to see the results from both.. and ofc. supporting mods also.

Obviously drivability would be significantly different! lol

Maybe it won't be so direct a comparison then.. my final drive ratio is 3.9:1 whereas I believe his is stock gts4 (4.3:1?).

He is also running HUGE cams (280s & 10.5 lift I think) whereas I'm not

what did it make bubba? mine on 18psi has made 585rwhp with the 0.81 t04z on 98 pump fuel (Not on a happy hubber either lol).

Brockas gt35 isnt exactly the same as what everyone else is running so dont know if his comparision is gonna be that clear, he is using the t4 housing on the 35 which surely effects results.

But none the less will be good to see the difference.

yeah but 70deg of timing helps with power :P

Anybody here ever thought of switching to a Precision Billet 6765? Its a 67mm like the T04Z but has a redesigned billet compressor wheel which is lighter and made more aggressive to outflow any of the old 67mm turbos. A guy here in the states has one on a RB26 and he put down 763whp @ 32psi. Some 2JZ guys have it putting down 800+whp and one Evo guy i know of did 900+hp @ like 40psi with it. I didnt believe the 900hp thing till he ran it down the track and trapped 153mph.

yeah but 70deg of timing helps with power

lol just because yours couldnt even crack 575hp on 25psi+ boost :P Put good quality bits in the motor and some good headwork/big cams and you will be suprised. Wait till its in a car again and new ecu with no misfire problems and then things will be alot different.

haha thought that might stir you up...

mine went 574 @ 24psi thank you very much!!!

plus it also went 560rwhp at 20psi but yoda backed off timing so it was nice and safe

brockas should make anywhere between 560-600rwhp i would imagine, hopefully 573.9 so I can give him shit for years to come :)

Mikes gts4 made 580hp at all 4 hubs on only 1.3bar as Sean didn't want to lean on it right away. Pretty sure there's no headwork other than what was required to fit the huge cams.

All I can say is 3L + T04Z + 32GTS4 = insane!

cerbera.. who is this yoda you speak of?

I will need my 26 to4z tuned shortly and trying to decide who i am going to get to tune it.. was previously tuned by mick at ovaboost

Have you had problems with Mick's tuning in the past? From my experience he is the bomb and wouldnt think you would need to change unless something went wrong. But then again, there is no harm in trying someone else!

Looking forward to results Brocka's.

i have not used mick, but i have been there when he has tuned a few mates cars and i thought he did a good job (dyno is a bit ancient nowdays haha) and i have only heard good things about his tuning ability

yoda = ant scali at xspeed

if your looking for suggestions i would suggest ant @ xspeed or sean @ allstar!

ant has tuned all my cars in the past and done a great job, sean did the run in tune for my gtr and is going to be the one tuning my new car

best results seem to be from 270/272 types with between 10.2 and 10.8 lift

edit: just realised your running a rb25 woops sorry, the ones above are for rb26

    • Ha, well, it's been.... a bit of a journey. Things have taken much longer than I'd hoped. I'll probably put up a thread at some stage. Hopefully soon. The car's not done any kms since my update in June though, put it that way.
    • Here's the chart for fuel pressure vs. current draw, assuming your base fuel pressure is 3 bar and you run like 0.5bar boost on WOT, you should only momentarily hit 9amps here and there. (Ignore my prev post, I cannot read a chart these days it seems)
    • Those comp test results are not hideous. Whether they are accurate or not (ie, when that comp tester says 140 psi, is the real pressure120, 140 or 160?) is unknown to us. The state of the battery used to crank it over is unknown, etc etc. Many people around here would say that the absolute values and the spread are perfectly fine to just add boost and keep going. I personally would be happier with a narrower spread than that, but even the diff between 125 and 145 is not terrible. That one cylinder at 125 though, has probably copped some damage relative to the others. You should inspect the valves seeing as you've got it open. Do you know how to measure installed ring gaps? That, and an inspection of the rings themselves, is how you will determine whether they need to be replaced. If you're not good to do these things, take the block and the pistons and rings to a shop that is, and ask them for the go/no-go on them. Do the bores need a hone at all? If so, you might well be justified in getting some different pistons in order to get away from the ring supply problem. Whether you're happy to spend a lot more money right now, on more gear, rather than less money, but an amount that looks stupid given that you will only get a handful of rings in exchange for that money, is for you to decide.
    • also possibly backed up to my filler and shat down it! 🤣
    • Ok so i would love some advice here please, i purchased an R33 a few months back and its had a few mods done to the engine, its an RB25det running a Master ECU, 1200cc injectors, bigger turbo, oil cooler, oil filter relocation kit, Spool H-beam rods, acl/ross pistons. When i removed the motor from the vehicle (as its getting a respray) i thought i would compression test it and these are the following results. Cylinder 1-145psi, Cylinder 2-143psi, Cylinder 3-125psi, Cylinder 4-145psi, Cylinder 5-140psi, Cylinder 6-135psi this test was done with the motor on the ground and powering up the starter motor. I dropped the sump and found broken oil squirters on cylinder 3,5 and 6. I was told my rings are probably worn so i stripped the motor completely to get a new set of rings for it. The trouble is no one has these rings anywhere and they have to be custom made by Ross over in the states and will cost about $600+$200 delivery. My question is how can i tell if my rings are at fault and if they are still ok and is this price ok for a set of rings?
