you must understand also the associated time, overheads, risk, etc that has to be factored into dyno time. Anthony is charging $400 for a tune which in my opinion is way too cheap. Does QT do the timing map? or just the AFR's?

Yeah but thats to tune a power fc, I have done a complete Power FC remap in r33's which have had bigger injectors in less then a hour, have done sooo many of them I can get them knocked over in no time at all

new firmware is available. 4.2.3

ohhhhh santa has come early this year!!! I will be uploading that this weekend

ECU Firmware Release Notes

IMPORTANT

Please read this document carefully. It outlines new features and fixes for all released ECU Firmware versions. Make sure you understand these changes and take the necessary steps to check and initialise all new features.

After reading this document, close this window to continue with the firmware upgrade.

NOTE: DO NOT attempt a Firmware Upgrade within one day of a race meeting. Adequate time should be allowed to solve any problems that may arise.

ECU Firmware Updates and Fixes

WARNING: Once an ECU has been upgraded to V4.3.2 there is no going back to a previous version. Be sure to allow adequate time to set up new features and solve any problems that may arise.

Firmware Version 4.3.2– 1/12/08

Fixes

Rotary Trailing Ignition. With the Ignition selected to "Rotary - Leading Wasted" only the front trailing matched the split table. The rear trailing split always lagged 12 degrees behind.

Firmware Version 4.3.1– 26/11/08

New Features

Suzuki Swift VVTi trigger decoding added.

Firmware Version 4.3.0– 20/11/08

New Features

ECU on-board datalogging. Number of logged parameters is fixed with adjustable logging rate and activation method.

Wide Band Closed Loop Lambda using AFR Target Table.

Audi 5 Cylinder 135 tooth trigger decoding.

Key-On Speedo sweep function.

Baud Rate adjustable. 115200, 57600.

Password Protection.

Fixes

NB Closed Loop.

Temperature channels other than ECT and IAT showing incorrect values when in a fault state.

Ford BA XR6 Turbo Cam control.

Changes

You can now select the number of active Fuel Drives when Staged Group Injection selected.

Hey guys,

what are these vipec ecu's like compared to something like fcon pro? put the limitations aside with the fcon's "access to tuning software problem" and tell me what you think!

tho i guess this question would be hard to answer since not many people have looked at the fcon from a tuning point of view but surely someone would know

Cheers.

i will probably give the firmware a go this weekend also.

That frees up the narrow band analog input for your EGT sensor/s too Anthony.

yeah or my gizzmo k-mon

my car is now running the new firmware, the wideband closed loop is working though needs the fuel map to be much more accurate than the narrow band closed loop does or it is a bit slow to pull the AFR up (or i need to fiddle with the gain control more as i am currently using the same value for WB as i was on the narrow band)

nice... I aint game to upgrade firmware till i get to newcastle

Im running this ECU in my GTR and am extremely happy with its performance its definalty on par with the Haltech E11v2 i was using before. Just curious how much did the external map sensor cost? as im thinking of boosting my car abit more.

yay another line running vipec.i have had mine insalled for about 10/12 weeks and its been great.

Boost settings never give me any rob compared to my old ebc or manual boost controller

wont be long and i will be wanting another one in my HR30 running L20et

Its a rebranded Link computer by all accounts. Link of late have lifted their game substantially and make some pretty sharp ECU's.

I remember actually posting something suggesting re the new Link Ecu's in the tech forum a few months ago and being rubbished about the specs vs power fc etc. Its quite funny what a name change can achieve.

Glad your happy with your ecu mate. The one running in my car I cant fault as yet.

The plug-in boards are a TF electronics product, marketed and sold by Ray Hall (Vi-PEC) but yes they use the same chipset and tuning software as Link. The development of this product without TF's input would have seen the Link product not be at the standard it is today as TF did all the development on it. In effect the Link ecu is a re-branded Vi-PEC product, thats the reason why "link have lifted their game" as you put it. If it wasn't for TF's involvement the Link product would still be sub-standard.

has new firmware been removed from website ?

Titan, can you email it to me? [email protected]

Or was it removed for a reason? or am i missing something?

Hi Paul

It doesn't do timing, just AFRs.

I do understand your point re dyno time. I'm also trying to be as objective as possible, and not being critical in the least about either Vipec or the tuners who use it. However, if the product's own website, and the man who developed it, state that a full new new map can be done in 20min, and better than most tuners, then the tuning time and cost should be less than for a product that doesn't have the same functionality. I've always thought that's why people pay for functionality in a good product like Vipec in the first place.

If the cost of tuning doesn't change because despite the advantage of QT more time is required to utilise the extra features offered by the Vipec that would be understandable, but this is almost the opposite.

It's up to individuals what they do, but I'd welcome any logical explanation as to why a time saving function that the owner pays for shouldn't lower the cost of fuel mapping. Anyway...just my 2c, this thread is about Anthony's experiences.

Cheers

Trent, i soldered the Vi-PEC loom to one of Rays adapter boards so the V88 unit just plugs in....easy!

who are these available thru? ray or someone else?

to be honest every product needs a gimmic to market (the autotune is no gimmic) and with the vipec they have chosen to that particular feature to spruke. I come from a marketing background (of late).

Auto tune is great but there is also the time needed to actually interface the wide band etc... which itself probaly takes more than 20mins the first time you hook it up.....

To me i pay for a product like the vipec as it has the resolution and computing power upgradabilty add on features etc... all thing required to do the job properly, to me the auto tune side of things is a add-on luxury that makes no real differrence to the ACTUAL ecu... what if microtech offerred the same autotune? i know i still would not buy one.... buy an ecu based on other parameters... of which the VIPEC / LINK has loads.

    • Hi from Canada, Both of my calipers are starting to fail. My car is a 2005 M35 Stagea ARX and I can't seem to find any parts or any cross reference caliper that would fit my car. Is there a company or a similar caliper that would fit and I could replace the OEM one. Or if anyone knows where I can find a new OEM. Any help is very appreciated. Let me know!
    • Maf is a question mark but TPS  I have set at 0.47, the fact that I’m getting proper voltage range out of it with the key on leads me to believe it’s functioning properly. I’m getting proper voltages on basically everything. I still need to look up voltage ranges for z32 maf and test that
    • Honestly no not at all, but it’s a very basic tune, it’s stock injectors q45 tps and z32 maf. Other than that it’s a completely stock base map. The file is from nistune and from my understanding if it was tune related I would be able to unplug maf and tps and it would still start even if it was a really shitty start. I have tried starting it with coolant temp, maf, and tps unplugged none of those 3 togethor or individually changes anything

    • What does it look like with highway driving? And yes, I had a similar thought as Duncan. It looks quite similar in my Stagea and I have made myself accept it as normal. Might have to look into it some day   Highway gets as low as 10l/100km on my end so I'm not as worried about it being a mechanical issue. More likely just the tune on the haltech.
