The data rev210 has put in is good but there is not enough, especially if the average for the -5 is only 313rwkw, misleading and conflicting to others opiniions, I thought they were only good for 380-400Kw, lol.

Bakes...if you want real expert advice on low mount turbo's i know someone who has done back to back testing on 8 different low mount turbocharger applications using the same test mule and the same dyno with almost identical atmospheric conditions. Comparing different results from different cars, different dyno's and even different countries is going to give lots of conflicting info.

PM me if you want to find out more.

Cheers Paul, as you say there will be conflictions everywhere. My brothers picking up the -5's for me today, Ive made my decision.

Here is a link for those interested on GTSS vs -5 done on the same car on the same dyno. If you look at the first graph the -5 were 500 rpm behind the GTSS up until ~4600rpm where they draw level but at 5500rpm the -5 pull ahead of the GTSS.

Again, there will be other evidence to say the opposite on other cars probably but Im just continuing the way the thread has gone, lol. Keep the war going :P

Im sure I will end up at the power level shown in the graph one day anyway.

The potential of the turbo's themselves isn't what I was alluding to.

These are only the cumulative results people have independent of location and tuner as averages.

Just as an observation it appears universally easier to extract good power from the GT-SS in the sub 350rwkw range.

This is easily predicted by the compressor map as another person noted. They have the best of the -7 and -5's rolled into one.

From the compressor map they will spool as quick as a -7 but, require as low pressure to flow 30 as the -5's meaning less generated heat for power 250rwkw or more.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the -5's they are fantastic turbos and those tuners who have thier heads around them can get as much power and response as one could every want on a road car. Sure the -9's/ GT-SS are something special but, they don't have the legs of the -5's.

All you have to do is make sure you start building a spare motor and buy a spare gearbox if you decide to wring the max out of the -5's :P

im doing the same as you mate using the 5s

using the stock cooler see how it goes....

power fc

sard 720cc inj

sard fuel pump few little mods needed to fit in....

twin plate clutch os lightened fly wheel...

im going to use nismo afm bolt straight in....

hopeing to run 20psi and see how the stock cooler goes.... hopefully make around 350rwkw

also i have been told to just use the stock cams and use cam gears to get the best responce!

mine is a r32 tho....

so yes inj you will need!

i would go with the 720s head room for more! why go 550 if you need to go bigger later on?

my 440 stockers were 95% maxed out at 262rwkw

clutch i would say so.....

my os was not cheap! but its a strong clutch and with the lightened fly wheel the top end pull from 5500 up is much faster!!!!!

afm yes either z32s or nismos i would go... nismo just bolt in no cutting wires changing plugs ect...

gaskits yes i have been told some one sells them as a kit for about 250

oil return bolts you have to drill out so i have been told also nothing to hard.....

Cam gears are a good idea.

If your tuner reccomends stock cams then stick to those. I'm not of that school but, I'm also not your tuner :O

You will have a weapon with this setup like the bloke who started this thread. -5's are a top turbo for ultimate street power :P

  • 2 months later...
  • 10 months later...
Bit of a thread revival by the arabian drifter but its actually timely:

Turbos, injectors, ECU, cam gears and a few other goodies should be getting installed and tuned in the next 2 weeks or so.

Stay tuned (pardon the pun)

who are those hotties in your avatar??? OMG...fark me

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
