Hey,

Another problem with my car and hopefully someone can answer my questions :P

Basically my car was making some loud clunking noises when driving. After taking the car to a transmission place they have said that my tailshaft is shot.

They have given me two options to fix the car.

Get a replacement tailshaft - He questions this as a 2nd hand one may well give similar probs. How much could I expect to pay for a 2nd hand tailshaft?

Take existing tailshaft out of the car and repair it - Apparently the CV joint in my existing tailshaft is shot and he can take that to an engineer and get the joint re- machined. This is expected to cost around $650.

What are your thoughts on both options? Is $650 an excessive amount to pay for this to be repaired?

Cheers,

Mitch.

probably the cheapest way out is to get a 1 piece shaft made. the standard 2 piece shaft do tend to flog out the centre coupling/bearing. and it's prone to coping a whack every now and then too. UAS www.nismo.com.au sell 1 piece 32 GTR shafts.

Thanks alot for your quick reply guys.

That 1 piece tailshaft looks like a good option. If I were to get this would there be anything else needed to make it fit or its it a simple bolt in job in replacement of the 2 piece?

Also are there any advantages / dis advantages going the 1 piece over the 2 piece? And will it be as strong as a standard 2 piece. By the way my GTR is making around 270kws at the wheels so would this be suitable.

Also if anyone has one of the UAS 1 piece tailshafts please post up with your feedback :(

Cheers,

Mitch.

    • @GTSBoy This method was able to get readings of -10 to -2, so it looks like its monitoring.  Now I need to figure out why the vacuum on the line provided isn't alternating with manifold pressure.  I went with 2 lines that an RB25 tuner recommended but I'll get a longer hose and try directly off the back of the manifold.  He may have been used to OEM intake setups while I have a DBW setup that removed the MAF and IACV.
    • I work at a car detailing and tinting shop called Quark which gets all manner of German cars in usually (mainly due to a contract with Mercedes Benz Kita Osaka, BMW Nishinomiya and others) but every once in a while something special comes in, like a fully restored 1972 HS30 Nissan Fairlady 240ZG... The shop owner had immediately started applying film to the windows as soon as it was in the shop so the interior was completely covered in towels and plastic sheets. But I could get a few photos of the engine bay which was restored like new. Such an amazing car to see in pristine condition in Japan these days.
    • Was going to say the car pulls up nicely everywhere, especially going into that last long right hander before the main straight. Looks like a lot of fun.
    • Hey Dave, welcome aboard! Good to see another soon-to-be Stagea owner here. The wagons are awesome — plenty of space, still got that Skyline DNA, and loads of potential if you’re into mods. Definitely post up pics when you get it, everyone here loves seeing new builds. What model/year are you looking at?
