Thanks Carl,

I also believe Heslo should be there. He helped out with writing the email last night, and was the one who prompted me to write a second letter.

+1 for heslo, because he nominated me. paybacks a bitch son ;D

Like it or not, this wont end well, he's just trying to lure all your cars to one place so he can defect them one by one,

I find this part particularly hilarious:

how we can make relations between Skylines Australia and SA Police better

You're making it sound like these are some sort of negotiations like between two countries. SA police doesn't need and doesn't want better relations with us. They just want all skylines off the road because in eyes of them we are all hoons, even those of you who you call yourself "mature members". And that's all. Cooperating with police wont help a tiny little bit, if anything it will make it worse.

I dont see point of cops in organized cruises, because we all know that there's no hooning going on on organized cruises anyway, so the only other thing cops would do on cruises would be handing out the defects, and believe me there would be plenty of them, many of them "justified".

Defects will always exist and I'm probably the only single person on this forum that has put up with this and manages to live with it and get own with my life. Fortunately neil is the only cop I have bad experiences with and I found most other cops quite nice... but I'm pretty much done with neil.

i think we all need to not assume anything and just and wait and see what the outcome of all of this is..........

lets not put any negatitve energy towards it and keep it all positive - no matter what your experiences are.

Careful Rok, I've cleaned up the first part of your post and contemplated deleting the whole thing.

I know it's just a knee jerk reaction to how you say you were handled, but unless you know something that we don't, then it's just hearsay bud!

i agree with the point of cruises being the last place that 'hooning' will occur, there is much greater risk of harm by those that drive 'spiritedly' in the hills or industrials.

i don't agree with the point of people saying they get picked on for driving stock looking vehicles - more often than not they (stock cars) are either younger/inexperienced drivers that drive like stains and could only afford a stock car.. the ones that throw their cars around corners in peak hour etc or they are the older drivers that don't want the attention of a prettied up car because of what they are packing under the bonnet. police know the theory behind sleepers so they'll also pull over an outwardly standard car even if you drive like a granny.

i, for one, drive a 'prettied up' car. it's standard engine wise but looks good - what i like in a daily - but it's annoying to be put in the same category as the twats that are a menace on public roads. this is something i have to deal with, it's part of driving the cars we do

Yes "suspected" defects are very real, and it comes down to the fact that not every police officer is a qualified mechanic which leads to regulations such as the "suspected defects". They will quote the 'better to be safe than sorry', but really just translates into real world lanquage as 'better to charge em money than not to'.

There are really only three things at play when import owners get defected besides the driver being a D'head.

1. Public perceptions, we are seen as a danger to the roads thanks to a select few morons that have clearly labelled us as such.

2. Revenue raising.

3. The always annoying, officer power trip.

Almost any reason you are given a defect besides it being legitimate will boil down at some point to one of those facts. It's unfortunate but something we have to try to turn around.

+1 Howie. I've also had experiences with my local police... most have been good and a small handful have been difficult.

I even got pulled over by a decent girl cop the other week when I was driving the GTR. Did a license check + bretho + plate check, all came up fine, and on my way I went. Didn't get asked one question about any defects... and I even did a stupid thing of making it look like I was trying to avoid the cop car (turned into the street she was trying to turn out of)... but I actually had to drive down that street lol.

And props to SAPOL employing some talent! This cop was pretty decent on the eye lol.

But, back to the subject...

Also, is it possible to maybe see which suburb is more of a 'defect hotspot'? Meaning, maybe there's a trend and one suburb have a lot more defects than others...

I see I'm just pissing against wind again... just because I have a different opinion than the rest of you I'm about to get savaged by everyone.

But then again I'm not trying to force you my opinions... if you feel the need for it, go ahead and invite neil on your cruises. Might not turn out as a bad thing, but probably wont turn out as a good thing either. Either way I'm way to busy to go on cruises, so whatever you decide won't affect me.

BTW, I fail to find the part of my post you deleted... looks exactly like the post I wrote... :)

on the topic of defects, regency is still struggling to cope with the sheer number of defected cars being sent through. they were open on a few saturdays towards the end of last year as they couldn't cope with the normal 5 day week. i believe this in itslef suggests that perhaps the option of 'major defect' is too commonly abused on trivial suspicion.

i think i remember reading somewhere recently about workshops being given the option to pay a sum of money in order inspect defected vehicles and clear them like interstate. i believe it was around the 10k mark for a license to do so but with the rate and number of cars being defected i'm sure it would pay itself back in no time with inspection fees

sorry to throw the topic off track slightly, feel free to remove it if it sidetracks the thread too much

Well judging by the quick responses atleast it looks like this is a subject that involves everyone.

Just out of curiosity, has there been a police presence on any of the cruises other than the last STagea cruise? Or is this all sparked from that one cruise that he attended.

Has anyone read the NSW or Vic forums on here? I know there's a cop who's a member and who often participates in that sub-forum and provides advice/answers law/cop/defect related questions.

Obviously, it's done in his spare time... but that might be beneficial for us to have Neil on board? There's nothing he can't see being a Guest, anyway...

Edited by CRoNic...
Not once has it been stated that Neil/SAPOL is being invited on cruises, that's not what this is about

...in the first post:

Would You be content to merely show a presence at cruise events

And I didn't even bother looking further posts.

you seem to have a select memory Rok.......I deleted the 2nd half of the first sentence after the unsubstantiated allegation regarding a certain officer's income.

As far as your opinion goes (regardless of whether I or anyone else agrees), it is still your opinion and you are entitled to it, hence why I didn't remove the rest of your post.

the thing is, this needs to be put to EVERY police officer. not just 1.

there is no possible way that the entire sapol is going to agree and say 'oh thats an sau cruise, we wont defect them'.

i still think your fighting something that isnt worth it, and in turn will waste alot of peoples time.

Some people are saying they've been pulled over with no defects. breatho, few checks etc. Then on their way.

Thats fine. But dont you get annoyed that your always getting pulled over for no reason.

We must have the cleanest cars out there. We look after everything (most of us). battery enclosure, oil leaks, etc etc etc.

I wouldnt mind that being put forward also.

Suspected defects are really a joke. I 'suspect' all datsuns with rust are defectable./

Rok. your not the only one thats been through regency and got on with life. Like you stated.

I went thru for the fourth time last month.

Im 26, dont cruise, dont hoon.

For the record, the police were never "invited" to my cruises. They turned up and we played fair. But thats not the view that some members had. In any case, like Kell, I'm done with cruises. There was more to the story and we were preventing from having our say. But for what its worth, I had no problem with the police turning up. Got something to hide? Leave your car in the garage for the rest of its life ... or shut up and just drive. :D

Which is the issue I'd like Nene to proxy for me at the meeting: true car enthusiasts respect the law, but we are also aware it is hard for them to identify the true car enthusiast. Some kind of honesty system (such as mod plates) should be employed, to show the enthusiasts who want to follow the rules, but still like to mod their car. Alot of owners are not out to modify their car to go fast, drift or drag race traffic. Just like you'd renovate your house to suit your taste, so too do car owners mod to their taste. If the mods are unsafe, then a defect is warranted. If the mod is minor, then depending on the mod, a warning is fair. But if there is nothing to defect, then there is no reason to defect. The biggest issue is what do police consider a defect? This varies from officer to officer and its the luck of the draw who you get pulled over by ... this is not how the law should be. Its not entirely fair to send a car to Regency on suspicion of a defect. But who decides? Let mod plates do the talking.

I also vote Kellie to attend the meeting, due to her reputation with the police, her knowledge and experiences with cruises, and because love her or hate her, she's done the best things for SAU SA. Due to her reputation with SAU SA, it would look weak if Kell was not attending the meeting. The Police reps would wonder why she's not standing by a club who are meant to be as innocent as it claims to be.

My 2c worth.

:)

    • I'm looking for some real world experiences/feed back from anyone who has personally ran a EFR7670 with a 1.05 exhaust housing or a .83 I'm leaning towards the .83 because its a street car used mostly for spirited driving in the canyons roads. I"m not looking for big numbers on paper. I want a responsive powerband that will be very linear to 8000 rpm. I dont mind if power remains somewhat flat but dont want power to drop off on top. The turbo I've purchased is a 1.05, although the mounting flange T3 vs T4 and internal vs external waste gates are different on both housings, I not concern about swapping parts or making fabrication mods to get what I want. Based on some of the research I've done with chat gpt, the 1.05 housing seems to be the way to go with slightly more lag and future proofing for more mods but recommends .83 for best response/street car setup. AI doesn't have the same emotions as real people driving a GTR so I think you guys will be able to give me better feed back 😀
    • Surely somebody has one in VIC. Have you asked at any shops?  Is this the yearly inspection or did you get a canary?
    • This is where I share pain with you, @Duncan. The move to change so many cooling system pieces to plastic is a killer! Plastic end tanks and a few plastic hose flanges on my car's fail after so little time.  Curious about the need for a bigger rad, is that just for long sessions in the summer or because the car generally needs more cooling?
    • So, that is it! It is a pretty expensive process with the ATF costing 50-100 per 5 litres, and a mechanic will probably charge plenty because they don't want to do it. Still, considering how dirty my fluid was at 120,000klm I think it would be worth doing more like every 80,000 to keep the trans happy, they are very expensive to replace. The job is not that hard if you have the specialist tools so you can save a bit of money and do it yourself!
    • OK, onto filling. So I don't really have any pics, but will describe the process as best I can. The USDM workshop manual also covers it from TM-285 onwards. First, make sure the drain plug (17mm) is snug. Not too tight yet because it is coming off again. Note it does have a copper washer that you could replace or anneal (heat up with a blow torch) to seal nicely. Remove the fill plug, which has an inhex (I think it was 6mm but didn't check). Then, screw in the fill fitting, making sure it has a suitable o-ring (mine came without but I think it is meant to be supplied). It is important that you only screw it in hand tight. I didn't get a good pic of it, but the fill plug leads to a tube about 70mm long inside the transmission. This sets the factory level for fluid in the trans (above the join line for the pan!) and will take about 3l to fill. You then need to connect your fluid pump to the fitting via a hose, and pump in whatever amount of fluid you removed (maybe 3 litres, in my case 7 litres). If you put in more than 3l, it will spill out when you remove the fitting, so do quickly and with a drain pan underneath. Once you have pumped in the required amount of clean ATF, you start the engine and run it for 3 minutes to let the fluid circulate. Don't run it longer and if possible check the fluid temp is under 40oC (Ecutek shows Auto Trans Fluid temp now, or you could use an infrared temp gun on the bottom of the pan). The manual stresses the bit about fluid temperature because it expands when hot an might result in an underfil. So from here, the factory manual says to do the "spill and fill" again, and I did. That is, put an oil pan under the drain plug and undo it with a 17mm spanner, then watch your expensive fluid fall back out again, you should get about 3 litres.  Then, put the drain plug back in, pump 3 litres back in through the fill plug with the fitting and pump, disconnect the fill fitting and replace the fill plug, start the car and run for another 3 minutes (making sure the temp is still under 40oC). The manual then asks for a 3rd "spill and fill" just like above. I also did that and so had put 13l in by now.  This time they want you to keep the engine running and run the transmission through R and D (I hope the wheels are still off the ground!) for a while, and allow the trans temp to get to 40oC, then engine off. Finally, back under the car and undo the fill plug to let the overfill drain out; it will stop running when fluid is at the top of the levelling tube. According to the factory, that is job done! Post that, I reconnected the fill fitting and pumped in an extra 0.5l. AMS says 1.5l overfill is safe, but I started with less to see how it goes, I will add another 1.0 litres later if I'm still not happy with the hot shifts.
