R34 Need Some Tuning Guidance

Hello.

My name is Paulo and as a Portuguese guy, I've never been worried about skylines because of their RHD exclusivity and because I though there weren't any in this end of the world.

However there is and luckly it's for sale. It's about 27000 euros 100.000 km.It's an R34 RHD and gorgeous.

Of course this made my head shake and I need your opinion.

He says he has an exaust, a turbo timer and what he calls a giant intercooler.

Well after searching back and forth in this and other skyline forums... I still have some newbies doubts.

I want this car for 90% road use and the others maybe track days...but mostly road. My aimed hp target was 650 hp.

Here are the troubles I encountered:

1)-Really have no clue if this is safe on pump 98-100 gas (no detonation?)

2)- I dont quite know about R34 reliability issues however I think and read that for this kind of numbers I would need new forged internals(?).

3)- Is RH driving in LH country a pain in the ass?

As we all agree - Portugal isn't a tunners dream thats why I would need you to help me with your knowlegde on a rock solid build that can withstand 500 normal hp and 650 hight boost regularly. This point is very important because there are no specialists around and all the work has to be done abroad like uk or something so I dont want problems afterwards because the outcome would be desastrous.

Please be kind enough to enumerate what you recomend me.

Probable things I need:

-5s twins (or similar?)

-MAF

-new ECU

-clutch (maybe)

-fuel pump fuel injectors

-...more for sure...

To finish this endless post if you could give me a roughly estimate of this kind of tuning I would be much much appreciate.

Thank you all

Paulo Neves

PS: sorry for possible english mistakes.

650 hp huh, thats quite alot of power.

On the road i think you will find that undrivable, for a rear wheel drive car you will spin the wheels whenever you nudge boost. But thats just my opinion.

Yes if you tune it to 98-100 octane then it will be fine.

Yes you would definately need a re done rb25.

I'm sure you would get used to driving on the right hand side but it would be weird, check that it is legal too.

You would need one massive turbo, a new full ecu, definitely a twin plate clutch, maybe 2 fuel pumps and 1000 cc injectors

650 for the street is just plain ridiculous and most probably illegal i know that some of the modifications to get to that power here in aus are illegal. and the amount of work to get 650 out of your rb25 is very extensive.

why do you want 650? have you got 300, 400, 500 and want more?

aim for 400RWHP and thats much more reasonable and responsive on the street

hks 3037s

twin plate clutch

fuel pump

Z32 MAF

Apexi PowerFC

full exhaust

550cc injectors

cold air intake

electronic boost controller

new internals is a good idea but not a must - ie; the std pistons might be ok for a while, depends on how you drive it, how its tuned and the fuel you have

thanks for your answers.

Its a 4wd R34 and I think that the diference between a 650 and lets say 500 (+-400awhp?) are the turbos and the internals am I right? Is there any estimative for internals to hold this power? My idea was phasing the buys and the last thing would be the turbos so I would accomodate to the power levels gradualy. As for road use I dont think it will be hard to get a responsive setup from a RB26. Help me here am I totally wrong and over my head?

Could you give me an estimative for amount of power that can be safelly pulled from a 2.6 with pump gas?

Thank you

Paulo Neves

What makes you guys so sure its not a GTR? I didnt read RB25 or anything like that in his post. 27000 euros is a fair bit of money for a GTT with 100k kms on it.

Think it might help with giving advice.

20comer...Is it GTR or GTT?

Hi again

1-I have a doubt what are the values I should aim for when I do a compression test on the engine. I understand they should be quite similar troughout the block(?)

2-I understand forged internals are a must have for over 600 hp. But I dont really know what this modification stands for..or better what are the parts that are really important to swap inside the engine so it will handle high power with no problems?

Thanks
