Hiya guys, currently I'm keen on buying a R33.

Choice has basically come down to these two

Car 1 - http://carsales.com.au/all-cars/private/de...1&silo=1011

Car 2 - http://carsales.com.au/all-cars/private/de...id=11ED68CACE4F

Car 2 seems to me as one i'd be less likely to be defected in. I would of course get rid of that front bar.

Car 1 seems to have fewer modifications though, so if i do get defected would that be better?

They're both great cars, both round the same price too.

I've driven in car 1, haven't in car 2. sadly I don't trust my manual driving to take either for a test drive, but car 1 drives well.

Also, car 1's clutch makes a weird noise every once in a while. he said that's because it's a twin plate clutch. is that true? the sound is a sort of rattle.

Thanks for the help :)

Hopefully I'll be driving a skyline soon ;)

Aleks

EDIT: Sigh, apparently i fail at linking :)

the white one looks better for daily use. minus the front lower bar.

but both are going to get defected for mods if the cops check your engine bay . the red one , has a look at me I'm defectable engine bay, with the intake and turbo manifold.

the white one has a vented to the atmosphere catch can, defect!! and the loose lines by pod stand out bad.

the twin plate clutch , yep they rattle sometimes at the lights, more for racing on and off use, not really necessary for that amount of power, unless you plan on caning it on the track, cause its not legal to cane on the street ?

have you looked at any others? in that price range you can get a nice one without a bunch of shady mods or do you want the power beast?(silly me, we all want the power just not the defect sticker ..lol )

and have you checked your insurance yet? you might get a nasty surprise $$$$$

Insurance wont be too bad, will be in dad's name.

Quiet honestly, only mods I care about are FMIC 3" TURBO back exhaust. It that it's impossible to get a 33 with said mods under $14,000!

And these are modded AND cheaper.

Honestly, there's one for $9000 from a car dealer on research road but I worry about it coz I don't know anything about them.

For my very first car i was ripped off bad, BHG 2 months after gettin' it and it wasn't covered by the warranty.

It looked nice when i went to check it out though it choked(?) a bit when i revved it. I can't drive manual for shit and really don't want to take out someone esle's car so i haven't actually driven any...

It LOOKS good. don't know about whether it performs good though...

Thanks for your imput though! exactly the kind of info i'm looking for.

EDIT: Another thing i really like about the last one is that i'll be able to do the mods myself. It'll cost me more but being able to pick things yourself, install yourself, LEARN is i think important, especially seeing as off tomorrow i'm a full time motor mechanic apprentice. Just worried that i'm gonna be a sucker he'll rip off.

Go for as close to a stocker as you can. If you are definitely keen on doing the work yourself, this is the best advice i think.

Exhaust is easy enough, most will have that. But as for mods like boost controllers, unless its an aftermarket turbo id steer clear. Cos you never know how hard theyve been boosted. If you start stock, youll soon learn if you get pulled over for an inspection, looking stock is the way to go. Stick with a stock airbox, or a nice covered pod that looks stock. BOV same deal, keep it looking legal, then do whatever mods you like yourself. Its more satisfying, & you also know how the car was going to begin with. This really helps tracking any problems that could arise later on.

Don't suppose you did any work/had a look at that $9,950 R33 GTST they're selling? Keen as a bean on it.

Aleks

May i ask why 33 and not 32 apart from that age? LOL myself and another member RAD 032 are selling are 32's. Rad 032 = rd25det and mine = clean body soon to be cleared by regency LOL (thanx neil)

I like the 33 body shape better

And the engine has a bit more grunt.

Aleks

no i havent seen that one as yet we usually see them once they have a buyer for them them we check the car over .

my son has a nice 250 kw with body kit kks turbo pfc/fmic/pod filter /550 injectors/heavy duty clutch ect ect but he wants a bit more than you want to spend i suspect

    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
    • BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
