With narrowly missing out on a Podium finish at the final round and also 3rd in the 08 tassy drift series I've wanted to throw a bit more into the 09 season.

how the car sat at the completion of 08

Callum221.jpg

Late 08 seen the start of what would come for 2009. with the new dash setup, custom cold air intake replacing the headlight and a fully sealed air box inside the engine bay.

DSC05319.jpg

Early 09 has seen cosmetic changes in the line of GTR front guards, GTR front bar and a VS GTR lower lip. parts on the way are GTR bonnet (light weight) and a D-Max wing thanks to SP Garage. and major works are under way to repair last years body kit.

DSC00296.jpg

Anther major upgrade for the 09 season is some New coilovers. Pedders Suspension Launceston has come on board as a major sponsor for the car and it will now be running the recently released Pedders Extreme coilovers. no testing has been done on them yet but i am very excited about starting soon. they feature base height adjustment, 30 step damper and rebound adjustments with spring rates of 8kg front and 6kg rear. i have already fitted these and i am very happy with the quality. Pedders Launceston are also able to get in all white line suspension components making them a almost drive in work shop for all your drift suspension needs.

Some other updates for the car is the dash has now been re-trimed in suede to cut down on glair.

DSC00350.jpg

Stay tune for updates over the next few weeks as the car will now be at Power Cruise.

Update: car is now tuned for 13psi.

its making 219rwkw and feels just as strong as ever. that works out to about a 20% power increase with just 3 psi pressure. the rev limiter was bumped up another 500rpm also.

im not sure what the next move with this engine is but it wont change for at least another 12 months

while it was in a Boost i got them to weigh and corner weight the car. im a bit disappointed as it weighs 1250kg even being stripped out. oh well it looks like ill have to do as the sprinter owners do and remove every bit of sound deadener. then ill have to paint the car with only one spray can to save some more weight. but i think its finally time i started on a diet not the car. with the corner weighting we were able to calculate that the car has a 58/42 weight balance. i dont think ill be doing much to this car to change that much but in future cars 50/50 will be somthing to aim for.

i also have some new wheels on the way but they will not arrive before round 1. looks like round 2 will be when everything comes together for me with new wheels and a cage.

1 week out from round 1 and only cosmetic stuff to do to the car. hooray.

and to further update Bond Roll Bars australia have come on board for this year supplying a weld in cage for my car. it should be here tomorrow but we all know what freight companies are like.

they supply CAMS approved weld in or bolt in cages for most makes and models of cars and the kits start from $800 weld in to $880ish bolt in and freight is $175 to launceston tas. due to time restraints this will not be fitted before round 1.

this is a pic from power cruise if you werent there.

should see a drop in your times at symmons with all that extra power. what was the L-R weight ratio?

yea i hope so. then add the new brake setup. your going to need to go faster soon ben.

L-R the rear was spot on as it sat but the front. well you know about the front. but it wasnt to bad.

Good stuff! Look forward to seeing you at Symmons on the 28th!

One question, why did you raise limiter up 500rpm? Are you running std internals?

Raising limiter even by only 500rpm can increase the internal stresses by 100% or more, maybe not something I'd do if it's a std bottom end

well because of what the engine is when we first tuned it i only had a 6000rpm limiter. i wanted to conserve the engine. when it was dynoed i got it pulled up another 500 to 6500rpm. i fint it very frustrating around symmonds as the car is still pulling strong and because of the gearing it hits the limiter to fast and at the wrong times. so its still only 7000rpm now.

the 25de is based of a rb20 engine so it will rev to 8000 no worries :P but i think ill just try it for now

oh and im not sure when ill make the next track day? drifting every month from here on in.

How did the new coilovers go cobber???

they have been spot on so far. having the damper control is so good. i had steering issues at round 1 of the tas drift series but that was in no way caused by these.

at the track i feel even thoe it wasnt back to back that they helped me cut half a second in lap times.

some really big updates are about to come over the weekend providing things go to plan.

  • 3 weeks later...

Ok so cage work has been slower than slow for me as i have been sick and also been away nearly every weekend with this comming weekend proving to be no different.

this is some of the cage so far.

DSC01185.jpg

DSC01186.jpg

the time is in profiling the ends of every bar.

as of tonight i have the main frame work done so now its just down to all the bracing door bars ect.

i have also seem welded some of the joints around the strut towers but im not going to hard core at this stage.

# if you check out these photos all be it poor quality you can see that i have chopped out most of the rear parcel shelf. this made it heaps easier to being the rear legs of the cage down to the strut tops. probably the best structural place for them. i was planing to remove the whole shelf but after removing the boot lid and seeing how complex the hinges are i decided to leave that part alone. i did cut out the spring bit thoe so no i have to carry a stick to keep the boot lid open. i will also be making the rear bulk head up so it sits to the back side of the strut towers so adjustments to the rear coilovers is done from in side the car. while i will still have to get out of my seat to do it they are not easy to see in the boot so incorrect adjustments can easily be made.

So then we move onto my brake upgrade. i got some R34 gtt calipers and rotors for very little cash making them a good upgrade. they are a good upgrade anyway as the run a 310mm rotor over the r32 280mm. for some comparisons R33 gtst run 295 and r32 GTR run 296 but the r32 GTR are also 2mm thicker than the GTS rotors helping in cooling.

the R34 Gtt was seen the best bang for buck option considering i am only doing the odd club day at the moment. However for some reason i thought it was a bolt on option but i was wrong. i dont know where i read it or if i just dreamt it up as they dont fit. only reason i have found so far is they use a bigger diamiter bolt to bolt them onto the hub assembly. i am going to drill the whole out but i am concerned that they may not quite sit right still in reference to pad sweep ect. time will tell but the brakes may be held off untill the cage is finished and in worse case i have a spare set of r32 gts calipers floating about just in case.

oh and i am also very happy with the items i got as i am guessing they are off a low Kms car genuine nissan pads and rotors with not to much pad ware.

DSC01168.jpg

now to the few new toys ive got for it.

some new wheels

DSC01157.jpg

DSC01166.jpg

DSC01175.jpg

DSC01139.jpg

first wheels are Origin DNA-01 17"x9.5" +15 offset

second are CST hyper zeros 17"x9.5" +15 offset

and Lenso D1R 17"x10" +15 offset.

as ben would say fully Dorifto spec.

i couldnt decide what style or type i wanted so i brought 2 of each and then i will decide. also they may be changing colour as that all i could get them in at the time

they are crap pics but im sure you can imagine that i can drive the car out and take nice pics of it at the moment.

DSC00985.jpg

and if you have a keen eye you can also see the D-Max roof spoiler that ive also go recently. this was a test fit for it. im not sure what colour it will be. white if i want it to match the rest of the kit or gun metal if i want it to blend in and not stick out at all. basicly its what i have always admired on S13 silvia's and its not to common on R32s so ill see how it goes.

hope you all like the update. :)

what you gonna do with those nice slotted rotors?

well for the moment they are staying by just in case, but make me an offer if you want them. they are pretty good quality as they have done 2 track days 8 drift days and they have not warped or failed in any way.

sorry if i missed it, what turbo are you running?

good figures for a de+t

hey mate na i dont think i have a engine spec run down in here.

it's a r34 neo turbo. im very happy with its out put so far.

    • The car/ECU will have all the sensor that it needs and expect to have. I think i do not have to explain to you how the Link is way better specialy if you have swapped engine   I just do not want to deal with any "problems" cuz i have only Nistune which i learned is not that great and in my case cant even deal with that speed problem (Link can) And of course it will be way more easier to tune and diagnose and safe. And for the ECU/speed problem...i dont know.
    • Per Mark Roberts of Sonictune: Mark Robert Author At this time, no. No ETA either 2016-17 models. You will be able to purchase and install a 2018.5+ TCU though   TCU purchasing and pricing info! As we near the release of TCU tuning, I am going to answer some questions I get asked often.   What do I need for TCU tuning? At this time, you will need a 2018.5+ TCU to be able to tune. If you have a 2016-to early 2018, you will need to replace your TCU with the newer version. One good way to know if your TCU is good is if you have auto upshift in manual mode in 1st gear around 6500 rpms. If your manual 1st gear goes to 7k rpm and will hit the rev limiter unless you shift, you have the older TCU.   Why do I need to buy another ecu license/phone flash if I already have it on my ECU tune? The TCU is its own computer module. It is completely separate from the ECU. Because of this, you will be required to purchase a TCU license and, if your tuner has it, the phone flash license required to tune it via phone/bluetooth.   Do I need TCU tuning? TCU tuning is NOT required. However, the faster your setup, the more it will assist in track and dragy time consistency.   If I’m ECU tuned by (tuner A) can I get my TCU tuned by (Tuner ? Yes, since it’s a different module and a completely separate flash, you can have two different tuners. However, it is highly recommend that you have both tuned by the same tuner. For me, my TCU tuning will directly complement my ECU tuning style and features and running my ECU and another TCU or vice versa MIGHT cause some issues. At this time and for the foreseeable future, I will only be tuning my current ECU tuned customers TCUs.     I have a SYVECS AWD controller. Do I still need it? Yes! The AWD controllers main job is to control your AWD system. However, with TCU tuning, you will no longer need the auto-shift function as that will be done through the TCU. The AWD controller will still be very beneficial for racers looking to maximize traction on the launch.     Shift schedule changes: holding gears longer at lower pedal input as well as max shift rpm changes. Please note, the new ECU race rom coming out will address 90% of the shitty drivability issues these cars have through custom maps from myself and Racebox—as well as others I am sure.   Increase shift speeds: as seen in the videos I’ve been posting, the TCU shifts much faster once tuned.   Increased shift pressures: as also seen in the videos, much firmer full throttle shifts.

    • The fancy pants red shock tower brace is finally incoming from MX5 Mania, getting it shipped from 'Merica has been a long and problematic process, and GWR, the 'Merican supplier will not ship directly to consumers outside of the US, Mania basically had to order a heap of them, the colour choice was silver, or red, and we all know anything red adds 5 killerwasps of dynotorques..... Whilst it does fit over a 2.5, and I've seen a few photos and videos of it being installed and fitting, google also says it might get real close to the FAB9 intake front runner, people in the US says it does fit with the FAB9 intake, except for one person who said it slightly touched.......so there is that.....LOL..... As it seems that I am the first in AU to have this combination of parts there's no local knowledge about fitment, so I'm just a willing guinea pig in this endeavour, I'll cross my fingers and toes and hope for the best In other news, I ordered stuff from China  on the same day I ordered the 23° silicone bend from Victoria, the stuff from China arrived a day ago, the 23° silicone bend is still travelling around Australia thanks to Australia Post, and "may" be here next week
    • Very good news...I contacted Racebox about it last night. My car is a 2016 so remains to be seen if it is compatible, requires a TCU swap, or is impossible.
