Well my brother bought his NA 2+2 Targa 300ZX at the start of this year and has had no problems with it so far. The 2 seats in the back though are uncomfortable at best! but the targa top is just awsome. Its very quick and the only mod he's got is sports exhausts which came with the car. It has 195k on the clock which is a fair bit but then he only payed 12.5k for it and its in great shape. Personally i love skylines, still saving for an R32 atm but after driving the zed i really think it is personal prefrence that decides it. If you want to mod your car then it really is going to cost alot more to mod the Z compared to the skyline, and the z go's through petrol like its free and its only a NA!

I dont like the 300 because:

hard to work on

costly to mod

engine is tight in bay and gets really hot when driven hard, esp. when modded.

rough car

I like my skyline for all the opposite reasons.

easy to work on, etc., etc.

Engine is loose in bay and gets really cold when driven soft, especially when stock?

Looks like the majority has spoken.

However when I was in the market for a Skyline, I also looked at the 300ZX. I was really tempted to buy one, The targa top would've been awesome. But yeah the way I drive it'd be overheating in no time. I don't have any regrets about buying the Skyline.

yeah my mate has a Targa Top 300ZX TT. Crazy car, fast, handles pretty well (mild suspension mods). But as it's been said... if there's any engine work to be done on it, generally they take the engine out of the car. It's just too hard to work on. And as it's a V6 Twin Turbo, you need two of everything, eg timing belts, turbos etc.

I like my skyline, but also like the 300's. I'd just prefer to own the skyline.

Fair enough your comparing a 91 Z to a 96 Skyline where Nissan learnt their mistakes. But compare a 96 Z to a 96 Skyline, are you people going to tell me the problems are still apparent!

I do agree on the higher modification cost on a Z, the Z is a sports car...like all sports car they usually cost more to fix and modify. As for everyone mentioning the cooling issue, that can be easily fixed. The Z enthusiast and following around the world is just as big as the Skyline not to mentionn it's involvement in motorsports.

    • Yeah I also looked at Plazmaman, but, it ended up alot  cheaper getting black ones through EFI when you also added in the delivery cost
    • Nice shot! They look super clean. The roof rack delete on the black one is interesting. Would like to see more pictures from different angles. It's subtle but could make quite a difference to how the car looks in profile.
