all that refers to is t04e compressor housing and t3 turbine housing.

doesn't tell you squat apart from it is a probably a bastardised "high flow" / hybrid type turbo.

the idea was sound back 20 years ago, when performance turbochargers were not available off the shelf, what you did was get a t04 compressor wheel and housing and retrofit it to your existing t3 turbine housing, so you had extra flow from the compressor, yet with the t3 turbine you still got good spool time, if you kept the entire t04 turbo assembly complete, usually sourced from a truck, it would never spool up on most engines.

the problem is usually the turbine housing will restrict the big wheel and front compressor housing sooner or later so you never get to release the full power the compressor is capable of unless you run high octane race gas. you can also suffer compressor surge and other nasty traits.

a properly matched performance turbocharger from the likes of garret gt range with a supporting compressor map that suits your engine will be the best outcome.

a t04e with conventional wheels has following flow

40 trim (36 lbs/min)

46 trim (41 lbs/min)

50 trim (47 lbs/min)

54 trim (45 lbs/min)

57 trim (49 lbs/min)

60 trim (50 lbs/min)

to determine what power that turbo in question would be capable of, we would need compressor trim, turbine wheel size/type/stage, turbine a/r etc.

compressor will do around 450hp of flow, with the 0.63 turbine a/r biggest option listed, you will be pegged to about 350-370hp at the treads on pump gas.

0.82 housing and you will be more capable of maxing out the compressor.

it's the sort of thing where, you might as well get the standard turbo highflowed and that way all the plumbing and oil lines etc will bolt back up again, both will make similar power, due to the rear housing sizing.

what about GT35 BALL BEARING TURBO? are tray good?

or they have huge lags as well??

and what turbo suggest for 600 hp ?

Settle for 550hp and get the GT30 with the mid-size wheel.

The 600hp GT30 (with the tad larger wheel) does suffer from a bit of compressor surge in the low RPM sometimes.

I had this issue... the smaller version would have virtually made the same power without this issue.

gt3076r is good compromise as mentioned, good match up, front to back and will net around 300rwkw, give or take a little.

gt3582r will have more lag on a 2.5l, but highly recommended on a 3.0l, will support 350+rwkw rather easily.

whilst these are efficient turbos, if you plan on using them on 2.5l, there will be some lag, but such is the price when you wish to fit 500-700hp turbochargers to these types of engines.

easiest just to look in the results section for your engine type stickied in this forum and see what works well or what you like the look of, as plenty of dyno graphs posted.

I run the same turbo Nismoid used to run...a TO4e compressor housing with a TO3 .63 exhaust. I run it on an RB20 and it makes ok power (260rwkw+ @ 22psi). But it is at the end of the day a dinosaur of a turbocharger.

It makes a good top end number but has potential for more but cant get there as the exhaust side chokes it up. Also, on the 20 at least finding a compromise with the boost control is also a nightmare.

It can have all the boost in by 4,000rpm in 4th gear and drive like a rocket with wide open throttle but anything under WOT and above 60% results in surge city. Alternatively, boost curves can be mapped to come on less aggressively and not see surge but the side effect then is full boost up near 5,000rpm. Makes a nice whistle and a nice number but thats about it.

    • For race cars, this is one part where I find having the roll cage bar having gone through a hole in the floor better than the build it up on a ledge inside... The Merc I help on, the main hoop ends are marked on the car, and the jack is marked... Jack goes under a few inches and lifts one whole side of the car up... Removes that fight for long slim jacks for race car duties!   My biggest issue for the daily drivers I work on, is my jacks don't go high enough. The jacks start out on a few blocks, jack it up, then start a second jack under it on more blocks, and then I can get an axle stand under it. My axle stands are presently in use, and are nearly fully extended. The car is sitting with barely more than a cm of clearance to get the wheel off the studs! Sarah's Kluger is the same, as it has an ungodly amount of droop available in the suspension and a distinct lack of good jacking points!
    • Happy? Yep, my to do list is getting shorter and shorter. Either this light approaching is the end of the tunnel, or I'm about to be hit by a train... Ha ha ha   Also, Duncan isn't that far out of town that you need to make a multi day drive out of it. 😛

    • I have more than enough digging, laying blocks, moving gravel, airrating, feeding and top soiling the grass, and setting up the veggie gardens growing some seedlings,  and then removing all the unused rock to keep me busy for the next few months at least,  hopefully the rain stops soon so I can get a few hours in this arvo, but, before that Sunday is washing day, is every body happy, you bet your life we are Nice country road day drives are a day off whenever I'm muscle sore from all the landscaping at the moment, but, more epic multiple day drives will start once the majority of the big jobs outside are completed
