Wolf3d fitted and tuned $2000

Trust VSPL fmic $1300 delivered from japan (can be fitted by yourself if you're handy with tools, just need to cut a hole into the engine bay for the intake manifold pipe)

Bosch 910 fuel pump $220 (again can be fitted by yourself, goes into the tank, just need to modify the pump brackets)

9 puck clutch from ross @ perth autoclutch $820 (drive in and out, dont bother trying to do it yourself too hard)

Ok at $4340. So how about we go for a small internal gated turbo that will make 350hp @ wheels easily like a GT28 with a t3 flange. Would pay more than $2000 for that, again you could probably fit it all up yourself, except for maybe the water and oil lines, so lets say $150 (3 hrs of labour) to get that all done and checked. The wolf3d would be put on last as you'd have to re-tune it for the higher boost. So all up you've spent $6490. The car would easily put down 350hp @ treads, the boost response would be great as its a small turbo, only marginally bigger than the stock item. It should run a low 12 second pass on good tyres. Oh I forgot a dump+front pipe, shouldnt be more than $300-$350 to get one made up and fitted, its internaly gated so just get a combined dump pipe. Thats only $1490 over budget and it'd kick ass... so what other "support" systems do we need??

Well said adam, hit the head on the nail here, i think all of us in the r33 series and perhaps the 32 series when producing about 250rwhp + have had probs with slipping clutches, so there goes a bit of the 5G on the clutch, it is a nice mod though no power is gained but gear changes become sweet!

i dont think you can change the std turbo for under 5K effectively... look at how much paul spent before changing his turbo (may be an extreme case) but hes reaping the rewards now as he did the support systems BEFORE bolting on a big mofo turbo

As an example:

For my car (which includes mods from the previous owner and my own mods) to give "just power":

* HKS Pod Filter = ~$300

* Boost Controller = ~$300

* FMIC = $1800

* Full exhaust = $2000

* 520hp fuel pump = ~$340

= ~$4,740

But then to put that power to the ground and to stop (obviously not -required- but deffinetly wanted):

* Michelin Tyres = ~$1000

* Suspension = ~$2,700

* Brake Upgrade = ~$2000

= ~$5,700

Now theirs $10,440 and you havent even done other "general" things like ECU, Turbo, Injectors so for the people suggesting Turbo upgrades i'd like to see you bolt on a turbo for under $5k and see how long it lasts (but thats just my opinion).

PS, the above gave me over 200rwkw too so im quite happy with that.

Theirs a few people making good power in WA now by shopping smart like Robs Greddy Turbo on a factory manifold.

PER4MANZ now has the same spec turbos as Adwins that put down 350+@ 1 bar ( like the one going on Hicks car)so their a good Turbo option at a good price. Cost Grant $50000US to get his foot in the door tho but now he has a good range of turbos no one else can supply in WA.

I will talk to Grant about us putting a complete package together

at a good price-- Turbo- Exhaust- Cooler kit- Plugin ECU-and a Fuel pump for an approx 370rwhp application, after this you really have to go inside the engine. Your standard engine has to be spot on at this power or its gonna die.

The few differences between what paul has done compared to my car is the greddy manifold, a surge tank for his fuel and I would assume he has a large throttle body as well to suit the greddy manifold. Is that what you call "support" systems adam? For ****s sake, read my post before replying, paul and I are both making good decent power on basically a stock fuel system, all we have done is upgraded the pump. Sure if you want 400+hp then time to crack open the engine, wack in some pistons as well as fit some 550cc injectors. Come-on guys I think paul and I have proven that you dont need to spend big cash to get your car to pull 350hp @ treads. If I had my time again I would have spent a lot less on my intercooler, thats the only regret I have in my mods list. If you read my post I did make a mention of a dump+front pipe in the later half, and what other exhaust work needs to be done? A hiflow cat? *laugh* thats such an oxymoron. A cat is designed to impeed the airflow by removing the heavy metals from the emissions, you cant exactly make a cat flow better, unless you remove it or bash it out. hiflow cat... no such thing. Its like a "hiflowed" turbo... bullshit, its a new turbo essentially. They replaced the exhaust wheel, they put a bigger compressor cover on and they've machined out the exhaust housing... wow a hiflowed turbo. If you look at the cost of "hiflowing" your exisiting turbo its very simular to the price of a new turbo... gee I wonder why. Gus has also proved that changing the stock intercooler on the stock turbo is a waste of dollars, his car performs well with the power fc, stock turbo and stock intercooler. I'm getting tired of all the shit that gets dribbled on here.

perhaps read HISPI's post as well and you'll see he has a budget of $5k not $6.5k so you can back up ur original post

What you mentioned is what we've been saying, with the addition of a turbo pretty much to extend the costs way beyond his budget

In addition to a clutch on my original list I'd also carry out a leakdown test too, just to be sure :uh-huh:

The guys just bought a gtst and your tellin him to buy a gtr if he's serious about modifying it.... I think theres a few people here with gtst's who are serious about modifying them, and last time I checked they were still gtst's. And why have you got tubos at the top of the list? That will be way down....and he only needs one.

My personal suggestion is to start with the basics which have been outlined. I like to experience each stage of power, rather than jump too far and have a beast which your not ready to handle.

Just simple mods like a dumps and FMIC will provide a significant jump in power which will keep you happy for a few months:D

macka has run a 12.98 on one of your crappy 'high-flowed' turbos which still stands as the fastest R33 gtst on the forum i believe. he makes full boost by 3500rpm which alot more driveable than the 4500rpm lagmonsters going around today. do some research cos i believe you are the one 'dribbling shit'

I sure have spent more than $5000, but I'm aiming for much bigger power than 350rwhp, so in the end I've been builing up a foundation. I'm very happy with my results so far.

Yes you can achieve 350rwhp with alot less than I have spent, there are a number of bolt-on turbo's hitting the market which provide good power and great response.

Ok guys, i think the $$$$ wise its going to extreme now.

This is my recommendations:

This is my expenses so far

Well most imports allready have a cat back exhaust. Youd be unlucky not to get one allready on.

Front pipe and cat $400

SAFC + tune $ 550

Air box + filter $150

Bleed valve $ 100

So far $1200, theres a FMIC and pipes deal going for $1100, cam gear maybe $200 = $2,500

As for turbos, i havent really looked or know enough about to give any examples.

All in all, so far pretty cheap

If I had to do my old GTS again with 5k spending money and starting with only cat back zorst and pod filter I'd go as follows:

1. Suspension @ $1,500

2. GTR FMIC fitted @ $1,000 ($700 for cooler, $300 for pipes and fitting)

3. ECU PFC with H/C and Boost @ $2,000, Wolf 3D around the same.

4. front/dump pipe to 'hiflow cat special' @ $600??

You could then run around 12psi safely and have a good handling car that makes circa 250rwhp.

Problem you will have is once you bite the mod bug it bites back really bad and it will be VERY hard to stop at 5k... Let us know when you pass 10k in mods... :)

I'd have an R33 GTR sitting in my driveway about now if I didn't get caught by the mod bug grrr :bahaha:

Its more of an addiction than drugs (although i've never touched drugs in my life I can only assume).

    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.

    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
