Hey guys, was wondering if someone could shed some light.

What are the options for MILD STEEL dump pipes only? I cant seem to find anything at all. For stock turbo might i add.

Currently have the stock dump pipe bolted to a 3" HKS front pipe. So im not after a front/dump combo.

Will i be better off having something custom made?

Im about to get it tuned, and according to the SAU gurus, theres alot to be gained over the stock restrictive dump pipe so wanted to get it done before the AFR tidy up with SAFC2.

Thanks alot.

Why does it have to be mild steel?

Plenty of one, two piece and one piece split dumps in the trader section, all bolt up to the standard turbo, mine is a one piece split dump from jjr and im very happy with it.

grab a JJR and cut off the second half, or sell the HKS front pipe

So i might as well just get one made? Dont want to sell the HKS front pipe, as the good stuff doesnt sell here. Everyone in NZ wants the good shit for the cheap shit price.

The reason i want mild steel is because i have already had a JJR stainless split front/dump combo. Had nothing but trouble with boost spiking even after modding so the wastegate flapper opens properly. And apon removal, the stainless stripped my 02 sensor thread and it took 4 hours to remove from the turbo with a gas torch. Not willing to try the stainless route again unless it is a high quality item and not cheap stainless.

What is regarded as good quality stainless? Im not sure what the numbers and grades mean.

if you already have the HKS front pipe then you might as well get the HKS dump that will bolt up straight to it with no mods required at all.

Id get one if i could scource a genuine HKS dump pipe. How can you tell if it is actually genuine? And who stocks them? Struggling!

could check out the GKTECH dumps? i got a split dump/front combo and they are two seperate pieces.

Thanks dude, just looked at their website and they dont look bad. Any problems with boost spike on the stock turbo? I dont want to go down that route again!

Thanks for the replies guys.

I have heard people mention those problems, i must have been lucky or maybe they work better with the vg30 rear housing i have.

AM Performance make a range of high quality, locally made, performance split (return or screamer) or bellmouth style dumps. all are made out of stainless (not 304 which is shit) and is guarenteed NOT to crack. straight bolt on fit.

Here is mine, its a screamer and as you can see, goes into the turbine itself as to seel it from the gate side of things... wont leak on idle.

Hey dude, have you looked up Tomei dump pipes? Theyre in a similar price range but the Tomei is the bellmouth design.

Heaps of stockists in welly.

I got mine from Soichi @ ST-HITECH up here in auckland. If you run out of luck, ring him up and he can sort you out! PM me if you want his number.

Try www.nengun.com

They should have them in stock.

Good Quality product as well

Extention pipes.. no wonder i never found then on Nengun!

But @ $511.. flag that. Its over half of what i paid for my full HKS High Power Silent from them! Economy FTL.

304 Is stainless... Its a number which refers to its metallurgical composition. 304 is your general purpose Austenitic stuff you see everywhere for food grade places followed by 316 which is a bit better. The best grade to use for Exhaust is 409, a Ferritic stainless with no nickel content, instead it is stabilised using titanium.

I think the problem with the chinese stuff is that although they may say its 304, its either full of impurities or its composition is only loosely based on the proper ratio of Carbon, Chromium and Nickel to make it. Personally I'd suggest using Mild steel for all the flanges or machined surfaces if you're going to use 304 to avoid warping.

Sorry to rant, I use stainless for everything where I work, so thought it should be cleared up.

yeah no probs mate, i know 304 is stainless, but my "its shit" comment refers to the fact that its not really any good in an exhaust application that sees rapid heat cycles. 304 is what most china dumps are made out of, hence the cracking issues.

AM performance dumps are made out of 316 manily and 409 is optional if you wish to spend a bit more.

have used 316 exhaust from the turbo back on my R32 drift car, for many meets, which saw lots of heat cycles, making 280 rwkw and never ever had a problem.

Isn't Mac doing a 20% off thing? That would make that about $380? Not quite so crazy. Or get one of the Ds at Midas to make you one up, I was happy as with my stock turbo one and the one with my GT30R seems to be doing the trick too... both made by Dan.

Argh don't speak too soon - I pondered the terminology and I would get Mac to confirm that he is talking about the same thing though, I always took the "Front pipe" bit to be what connects to the rest of the exhaust though he describes it as connecting to the turbo.

He has a separate entry for "Extension kit" and no description of what it is, but is advertising it at $690 - or $552. Eek.

    • Hi from Canada, Both of my calipers are starting to fail. My car is a 2005 M35 Stagea ARX and I can't seem to find any parts or any cross reference caliper that would fit my car. Is there a company or a similar caliper that would fit and I could replace the OEM one. Or if anyone knows where I can find a new OEM. Any help is very appreciated. Let me know!
    • Maf is a question mark but TPS  I have set at 0.47, the fact that I’m getting proper voltage range out of it with the key on leads me to believe it’s functioning properly. I’m getting proper voltages on basically everything. I still need to look up voltage ranges for z32 maf and test that
    • Honestly no not at all, but it’s a very basic tune, it’s stock injectors q45 tps and z32 maf. Other than that it’s a completely stock base map. The file is from nistune and from my understanding if it was tune related I would be able to unplug maf and tps and it would still start even if it was a really shitty start. I have tried starting it with coolant temp, maf, and tps unplugged none of those 3 togethor or individually changes anything

    • What does it look like with highway driving? And yes, I had a similar thought as Duncan. It looks quite similar in my Stagea and I have made myself accept it as normal. Might have to look into it some day   Highway gets as low as 10l/100km on my end so I'm not as worried about it being a mechanical issue. More likely just the tune on the haltech.
