What are peoples thoughts on not having time cards this year (allegedly).

The go is they will have a white board at the stop point where your car number and finish time will be written. however, i don't believe whiteboards and markers work all that well in the wet?

I don't like the idea of not having a physical time written.

This is how Wrestpoint ran and I liked it - as much as I love stopping at the end of the stage to have a chat to the guys while your time card gets sorted, this saves a bit of extra handling when the adrenalin is still pumping and your trying to sort out time card, pace notes and road book. And you can still put the window down and say hi!

Our times seemed spot on, on the whiteboards too

A good system and surprisingly easy to get used to.

Yes Kel, MPC. The guys are great, and always do a superb effort. I was hoping for a speccy deal this year like I got last year, but what with five of their normal runners pulling out over the last couple of weeks, unfortunately, full whack it is.....

MPC have earned their good reputation - always a shame to hear about people having to pull out.

Oh.... and I'm getting "can't focus on work, dreaming constantly of Targa" excited too!!!

Don't worry I'll shout you a meal or 10, still be paying you back for last year!

Fair enough, luckily I just got one of those time books in the mail today it was just going to be for comparison purposes, now it will serve a purpose!

Tell me about it, sitting at a desk all day long just doesn't allow time to pass quick enough! Thank god easter is the week before our recce so a short week.

Why don't you want to service for kerry? don't know enough about the VW? CBF? all of the above?

Should look after savman if he doesn't already have anyone.

Im not keen to work under extreme pressure on a car i dont know. they have invited me to travel down the east coast with them again this year but im not sure yet.

yea bens crew would be the next best thing but its no 32 haha

one of our service crew got his apendix ripped out yesterday. So he's now useless (doctors orders), so you could crew for us if you wanted Damo.

ill be in contact.

Now I'm double extra excited!

Picked up my new suit from Race & Rally this morning.

Then headed over to Just Jap where I ended up talking Targa crap for half an hour.

My day will be complete if my rally notes are in the post box

...yep doesn't take much to excite me these days :D

Well I'm back from my Phillip Island shake-down and whilst the over-all lap times themselves were nothing special - given that I know I was backing off after 200km/hr due to badly square old tyres shaking the car apart the times were actually very good and the car felt great.\

The new radiator is crazy too - 25km session and my max water temps were only 68dges. It may acually be too cold now! LOL

But the up-shot is I'm feeling much more confident and consequently much more excited about Targa now.

Tassie in 3 weeks and counting.

spend the day working on the car today. Removed the interior, the car had full carpets, even still had the rear seat belts. I pulled the cage, all carpets, seat belts, and all plastics out today. Dad cbf waiting till monday to get dry ice, so he's removing the tar with a heat gun.

well when he changes his mind and gest dry ice can you get some extra for me. :(

1 1/2 days of heatgun + scraper, then cleaning up with petrol did the job. What do you need dry ice for? isn't the mrs doing it for you :D

I'll be interested to see how much ligher the car is.

yea but she gets in the way while im trying to work. plus she talks about horses to much

Well, I'm home on the couch today feeling sorry for myself (note to self- kids have germs, must avoid them worse than like the plague before leaving for targa!!). Since I'm already miserable, might spend the time doing that other dreaded task- reading through the supp regs

I have some video footage of me cruising around the island - http://www.viddler.com/explore/Snowmann/videos/2/

If your speakers can go loud enough you can hear the massive vibration in the car at speed. The funny thing is despite how easy I was doing that and given I also had the boost turned down to 0.98 Bar, was short shifting at 7,500rpm and was backing off at the big speeds - the best lap time in that session (1.50.1) is still over 0.5s faster than last years Rookie Winner (Stephen Bradford) best ever lap around there.

Well just a note to everyone, pack your winter woolies, slippers, thermal undies etc

Cos winter is here! f**king freezing this morning! (water temp was 6 deg at 8am!)

    • If it (the code) wasn't still current, it should have gone away by itself by now. No, nothing it 10/10. But it is quite likely. Everything else to do with the ignition could still be responsible (which is wires and connectors). The car is an old piece of shit now, so all the wires and connectors are also old pieces of shit.
    • Lock me in mate, although I'm not sure if I'll be heading up from Goulburn or down from Sydney, either way, return will be back to Goulburn
    • Sounds good, we will aim to be there! @The Bogan I'll give you a shout if you are heading up to campbelltown for the meet too.
    • Before I get to the test day, just to finish off the android head unit. This is a demo from car start up....the standard/host system takes a few seconds to boot (same as all v37) but Android comes up quickly. In this vid I'm using the delivered launcher but have set the default to Agami since which is easier to navigate when if use primarily 5 apps. You can see the host system still takes over when required eg putting it in reverse, and you can switch between Android and not by holding the back button 3 sec. It is pretty responsive (fast) but you can see I had to press harder than expected a couple of times.  I still have the phone connected to the stock system, and that also seamlessly takes over Android music playing. v37-android-demo.mp4 The bigger reason that I put this in though is so that I can use Ecutek directly on the head unit. That gives me a dash with logging (up to 20MB only), high and low value warnings on any parameter etc etc. I've run a USB cable from the Ecutek OBD dongle to a USB input on the unit, easy. v37-ecutek-demo.mp4   The unit did freeze on the launcher the other day, I think Agami was trying to verify the license when it didn't have a data connection...will monitor and report back if there are any other problems but so far I'm very happy with the upgrade.
    • Nah that is just crappy GPS mapping, I did have a small excursion (cold tyres, damp track, surprise!), will post up that when I get a chance.
