I personally like to see a bit of in the car in the incar- I definitely think it gives a better sense of what it's really like to drive these stages.

Outside the car ends up looking a bit too cruisy to me if you don't get good sound to hear what the cars actually doing?

Despite that ending I love The Sideling. Though I reckon each time I've done it, it takes at least 10 minutes after the stage for my arse cheeks to unclench (sorry that was a big crude, but the truth ;) )

The sideling is tops, just spent some time last night going over it and the notes (TV spec).

On the camera thing im planning on using the POV for a forward view (dash in view) and the GoPro for a view back onto the crew or stick it outside somewhere.

Gotta give a big shout out to the RGM Racing boys (Giant). A fellow competitor, Paul Bergman, somehow ended up with the incorrect front diff in his 33 GTR he's been rebuilding, with three days before it's to be on the truck. In a fantastic effort, Mark and Russ said they could help and already have a new front diff installed, during work hours.

Told ya, best people ever are doing rallying :P

Hey all,

Is there some night or day event or something near Launceston where all the competitors are (hopefully) going to be displaying the cars?

Would love to come get a look at them, unfortunately I've started working and don't think I'll be swing any days off to come to any of the stages around Launceston / northern Tassie.

Want to get a look at all these fancy Skylines coming down to little ol tassie :stupid:

Hey all,

The old motor blew up, and the previous owner bought another motor as replacement, but had the R34 sump on it with the wrong ratio.

The car is nearly done, new exhaust was put in yesterday and its is getting tuned on either monday or tuesday, few more little bits and pieces to do and then its off to Tas.

Yeh its actually not listed in the guide to the event, but its on and there are signs in the shop windows in george st so it must be! lol!

wow.... it's coming up on us quick now!!!

f**king cold! haha

But seriously its been a bit fresh in the mornings, but we are still having alot of 20 degree days.

Her words were: "well think about it, if you break your neck and become a vegetable, most likely ill have to look after you, so in the long term it would be cheaper to buy one of those neck thingys"

One more day of work, and only 3 more sleeps til i leave for Targa :woot:

Targafest is Friday 1st May - here are the details straight from the Launceston CityProm Website:

Targafest

Cityprom is proud to partner with LAFM to again bring Targafest to Launceston Central City.

This fabulous FREE event will be held on Friday 1 May from 6pm until 8pm.

Targa cars and drivers will roar into George Street between Paterson & York Streets, and fill Brisbane St between St John and Earl St and Yorktown Square.

- Opportunity to view the cars up close

- Live music and entertainment

- The ‘Best Sausage in Tasmania’ cook-off 6pm – 8pm

It was an awesome event last year, sure this year will only be better.

Yeah it was great hey :woot:

I'm on the big bird tomorrow morning, straight into recce on arrival :D Timmay and Gus are collecting the super Ignis from Devonport prior to my arrival, then it's straight out to the Sideling and the rest of the east coast loop :D Sleep in Lonnie tomorrow night.

Car is in Melbourne, pre-scrutineer tomorrow.

Greggy's DMS is going in it today, on the dyno for a quick check afterwards.

Fark - PUMPED MUCH! lol

      Nah, they'll do it without a receipt, tell em roughly when it was, that it was cash, youll likely only get store credit, but that gets you some dollars towards the newer better shovel, or other item you need/want later.   Still take it back and have a crack at returning it.

      That was a fark up, it's Salamanca Place I was thinking of. And now I'm curious as to what potential slur/gaf I have caused with Salamander Road, ha ha!

      Actually everyone on the roads was really well behaved. The only person that did any minor tailgating was a local hoon in a Turbo Focus. Unfortunately we weren't going the same way so there was no grand initial D touge battle. Lots of people pulled over and let me through. The amount of "Hey man nice car, omg skyline, nice 34 man woo" was suprising. Like really suprising. Like almost annoying. My partner was obviously surprised, she'd never seen anyone in the real world point out the car/like the car/want to chat about the car before, so to have like 3 people per day mention it was notable, I could finally say SEE? SOMEONE THINKS THEY'RE COOL. Everyone was also pretty suprised about the weather. Every day was dry and about ~13-14C. Mount Wellington had a sign that said they close the gates at 9pm and I was heading up there at about ~7:30. It was VERY apparent that conditions were getting significantly worse by the minute on the way up and down. The road on the mountain was terrible though, it's no driving road. I have various suspension related questions now. Luckily it was only about 20 minutes from where we were staying to the top of the mountain as said Google maps. We only had the 2 nights in Hobart. We went to the Farm Gate Market though which was really good - And went down to the Hastings Thermal springs/caves down there during the day. I'd definitely be up for going back again, so luckily there's a few more sights yet to see. Didn't get to do the west coast/queenstown/cradle mountain so this was supposed to be a 'scouting' trip anyway of sorts if I were to one day do/take part in/organize a more car-focused trip. As for the boat, it wasn't bad. Well it was bad, but not in the way you're thinking. We did the night trip which leaves at 6:45 (though you have to be there ~2 hours earlier) and arrives the next morning at about 6am. There is nothing to do on the ship. If you plan accordingly and bring a book/tablet/show to watch/charger you can just chill out, take some Travacalm and just sleep through it. The food there is an extremely basic buffet that costs $32 a plate, or $14 for a $3 pizza. The way back we had a travel kettle and a few different types of cup noodles and made our own tea/coffee in the room. This was a far superior way to do it. At the very least book one of the rooms with beds. I guess as we were in the off season we didn't have room mates. You get an option for rooms with 4 beds (2x bunks) or a room with just the two bottom beds. There's also some option for a deluxe queen bed but it's much pricer. We've been on sleeper trains in Asia before so we figured this is similar (and it was)
