Anyone with a GTST chasing a stock GTR bov?

I'm buying one off a guy who has 2.... split postage costs plus buying both at same time is cheaper than buying them individually. Let me know if anyone's keen

Whats the difference between a stock GTR one and a GTST one ?

GTR one blows off harder. That's what she said.

Sounds tougher blah blah blah

My battery is in the boot and the copper that defected me said that it needed to be in a box. Is that true ?

Yep, needs to be a sealed unit or some such rubbish. It's pretty easy to fake it so it looks like it's in a sealed box, or to even make it look like there is the rubber tubing that goes from the sealed box outto a "safe" place. Do a search man, there's heaps of info on this site about it, I came across a few things when I was finding out how many CCA's the battery needed when I needed to buy a new one a month or so ago.

yours is a series 2, and it comes with the battery there standard, without a box, so I am not too sure about that one. My old series 2 did not have a boxed battery.

All this crap happened on monday morning? who the hell is that thorough on monday morning. where abouts did you get defected?

The first thing he asked me was do I have a BOV? (with his hand resting on that oil filter that lets the oil vapours out into the atmos) I said yep and it is plumbed back. The other copper wiggled my epic inlet piping around and shrugged. Went around the back of the car was told about the battery needing to be in a box. Was told that my king springs where to low. I said no coil overs. He said oh those max low springs yeah they sag a bit. I said maybe my COIL OVERS had settled a bit to which he said oooo faulty suspension I mightn't be able to let you drive this away. Wrote me up the ticket and it says

1. Turbo installed needs mod plate. Wut ? This car comes with a turbo.

2. Suspension too low GUESTIMATE at 60mm. Apparently they can guestimate and estimate.

Mines got a plastic tray thing the battery sits on and thats it. Thanks for that. Got done on Ipswich rd near the morooka train station heading to toowoomba. Went to toowoomba back to the mechanic that did the mod and said i need a mod plate for the work YOU did. He said no problem did it up then charged me $121 for the plate. Then took my car back to pedders thinking that it had dropped / settled and it hasn't. It is at standard ride height 180mm all round apparently. The zorst is 90mm off the road. Did some measurising and there is a bit of space to get the zorst tucked up giving me more ground clearance. I think we worked it out that after the zorst is lifted then the car can be lowered by about 40-50mm. So I get defected for being too low then get it fixed so I'm not, resulting in me being able to lower the car further? Ah our justice system works. They didn't give me a fine but I have a court appearance on the 21st. Fun times

end

Ah snap dude thats a shit terrible story

PS mine's a S1 and the battery's in the boot... looks like it should be too?

Might be worth while maybe contacting the police station and having a word to the senior officer.

They might just withdraw the ticket. Tell them you checked the ride hight at your suspension place and it was standard.

tough break jase :)

Cheers. But it does officially mean I am a skyline owner since i've never had a defect before this

The ride height is standard but the lowest point on my car is 90mm (and less with the retarded bumps and rubbish in the road) I'll call them in the morning.

Yeah, it's not so much fun...

That's what she said.

I'll give you tree fiddy.

If its an aftermarket jobby then yeah it must be sealed and vented and all that crap. But 33s have the battery in the boot stock (is that just s2s?) so whatever the standard setup is should not be a problem.

I seem to remember the std 33 set ups I've seen having a box though... but I could be wrong.

Actually come to think of it the alfa has the battery in the boot standard with no box. So if its a std set up it should be OK.

Ah snap dude thats shit terrible

What is the mod plate you got for? The car is factory turbo. What mod(s) was it?

The ride height is standard but the lowest point on my car is 90mm (and less with the retarded bumps and rubbish in the road) I'll call them in the morning.

33s always have shit low exhausts due to to running it under the diff.

Might be worth while maybe contacting the police station and having a word to the senior officer.

It's a tough one. The car obviously DOESN'T need a mod plate for the turbo because it is factory. But he has gotten a mod plate for SOMETHING so at a guess there was something that needed a mod plate so you won't get away with that one.

On the ride height its got to be 100mm clearance everywhere, so the 90mm clearance to the exhaust will make it illegal. It can be super jacked up 4WD spec height but if the exhaust is still too low it's still illegal. You could get the exhaust tucked up higher and then get a statement from the suspension place saying that the ride height is legal and hasn't been altered and that would make the cop look like a bit of a tool for his 'guestimate', but I don't know if that would achieve much..

Cheers. But it does officially mean I am a skyline owner since i've never had a defect before this

Paaarrrtttaayyyyy?

P.S. Morning Mangs.

Cricket last night was awesome. -22 from my first bowling over :), then +24 from my second :( :( :(. But got about a dozen stumpings, made some runs, and we won, so overall not too bad.

I hear WW3 is about to start in Korea. That's upsetting, I wanted the zombie apocolypse to beat WW3 :(

New seat for my MTB turned up yesterday too :)

Also, Colin's sister is hot.

Ah snap dude thats a shit terrible story
I thought I typed it up well

LOL I mean the contents of the story is terrible..... not the way you wrote it. You know I <3 your effort.

Yeah I saw that yesterday..... full on! Call me crazy but it's about time something gave way up there. It's not good, but it's definately been 'about to happen' for years.

Morning mangs! I'm feeling good today, it's hump day after all :(

    • Hey Dave, welcome aboard! Good to see another soon-to-be Stagea owner here. The wagons are awesome — plenty of space, still got that Skyline DNA, and loads of potential if you’re into mods. Definitely post up pics when you get it, everyone here loves seeing new builds. What model/year are you looking at?
    • See if you can thermal epoxy a heatsink or two onto it?
    • The other problem was one of those "oh shit we are going to die moments". Basically the high spec Q50s have a full electric steering rack, and the povo ones had a regular hydraulic rack with an electric pump.  So couple of laps into session 5 as I came into turn 2 (big run off now, happily), the dash turned into a christmas tree and the steering became super heavy and I went well off. I assumed it was a tyre failure so limped to the pits, but everything was OK. But....the master warning light was still on so I checked the DTCs and saw – C13E6 “Heat Protection”. Yes, that bloody steering rack computer sitting where the oil cooler should be has its own sensors and error logic, and decided I was using the steering wheel too much. I really appreciated the helpful information in the manual (my bold) POSSIBLE CAUSE • Continuing the overloading steering (Sports driving in the circuit etc,) “DATA MONITOR” >> “C/M TEMPERATURE”. The rise of steering force motor internal temperature caused the protection function to operate. This is not a system malfunction. INSPECTION END So, basically the electric motor in the steering rack got to 150c, and it decided to shut down without warning for my safety. Didn't feel safe. Short term I'll see if I can duct some air to that motor (the engine bay is sealed pretty tight). Long term, depending on how often this happens, I'll look into swapping the povo spec electric/hydraulic rack in. While the rack should be fine the power supply to the pump will be a pain and might be best to deal with it when I add a PDM.
    • And finally, 2 problems I really need to sort.  Firstly as Matt said the auto trans is not happy as it gets hot - I couldn't log the temps but the gauge showed 90o. On the first day I took it out back in Feb, because the coolant was getting hot I never got to any auto trans issues; but on this day by late session 3 and then really clearly in 4 and 5 as it got hotter it just would not shift up. You can hear the issue really clearly at 12:55 and 16:20 on the vid. So the good news is, literally this week Ecutek finally released tuning for the jatco 7 speed. I'll have a chat to Racebox and see what they can do electrically to keep it cooler and to get the gears, if anything. That will likely take some R&D and can only really happen on track as it never gets even warm with road use. I've also picked up some eye wateringly expensive Redline D6 ATF to try, it had the highest viscosity I could find at 100o so we will see if that helps (just waiting for some oil pan gaskets so I can change it properly). If neither of those work I need to remove the coolant/trans interwarmer and the radiator cooler and go to an external cooler....somewhere.....(goodbye washer reservoir?), and if that fails give up on this mad idea and wait for Nissan to release the manual 400R
    • So, what else.... Power. I don't know what it is making because I haven't done a post tune dyno run yet; I will when I get a chance. It was 240rwkw dead stock. Conclusion from the day....it does not need a single kw more until I sort some other stuff. It comes on so hard that I could hear the twin N1 turbos on the R32 crying, and I just can't use what it has around a tight track with the current setup. Brakes. They are perfect. Hit them hard all day and they never felt like having an issue; you can see in the video we were making ground on much lighter cars on better tyres under brakes. They are standard (red sport) calipers, standard size discs in DBA5000 2 piece, Winmax pads and Motul RBF600 fluid, all from Matty at Racebrakes Sydney. Keeping in mind the car is more powerful than my R32 and weighs 1780, he clearly knows his shit. Suspension. This is one of the first areas I need to change. It has electronically controlled dampers from factory, but everything is just way too soft for track work even on the hardest setting (it is nice when hustling on country roads though). In particular it rolls into oversteer mid corner and pitches too much under hard braking so it becomes unstable eg in the turn 1 kink I need to brake early, turn through the kink then brake again so I don't pirouette like an AE86. I need to get some decent shocks with matched springs and sway bars ASAP, even if it is just a v1 setup until I work out a proper race/rally setup later. Tyres. I am running Yoko A052 in 235/45/18 all round, because that was what I could get in approximately the right height on wheels I had in the shed (Rays/Nismo 18x8 off the old Leaf actually!). As track tyres they are pretty poor; I note GTSBoy recently posted a porker comparo video including them where they were about the same as AD09.....that is nothing like a top line track tyre. I'll start getting that sorted but realistically I should get proper sized wheels first (likely 9.5 +38 front and 11 +55 at the rear, so a custom order, and I can't rotate them like the R32), then work out what the best tyre option is. BTW on that, Targa Tas had gone to road tyres instead of semi slicks now so that is a whole other world of choices to sort. Diff. This is the other thing that urgently needs to be addressed. It left massive 1s out of the fish hook all day, even when I was trying not too (you can also hear it reving on the video, and see the RPM rising too fast compared to speed in the data). It has an open diff that Infiniti optimistically called a B-LSD for "Brake Limited Slip Diff". It does good straight line standing start 11s but it is woeful on the track. Nismo seem to make a 2 way for it.
