depends greatly on your scope of modifications. I'm guessing you're just starting and think an intercooler is one of the first steps? I disagree but if you want one that performs better than stock then go for a standard r34 SMIC. They're relatively inexpensive, common, and will handle around 200rwkw, without being 'bling bling' or chopping up your front end.

The large front mounts are more suited to 400-500hp apps. But they are also fairly cheap, even for name brand ones, so you decide. But don't buy Chinese ebay shite. Blitz are good cores, and straight fit. I have a large Greddy front mount but I know better now and probably wouldn't do it again if I had the chance, it was just such a good price!

Search the forums. They are full of wise people who'll share their victories, and very un-wise people who'll share their horror stories. Both are helpful in their own way :P

A larger IC will INCREASE lag. What is currently on your car? Running 250rwkw I think you've proven what is on there is handling it, provided you have a CPU to prove all is well.

And I just read another thread where you express interest in a megasonic BOV. Don't do it. Just don't

What a waste of money..

Anyway - SAU Traders. Simple as that.

They have good deals, great prices. For that setup honestly you don't need some Jap big $$ branded kit.

what was a waste of money? anyways... back to topic... if any1 could recommend a good intercooler kit for me it would me much appreciated :P

JJ, ISC, any of them will suffice mate.

If you were chasing 300rwkw+ it might be a different affair, but cost vs gain there simply is no choice but a nice cheap kit from the traders.

And this covers a fair portion of the community so you cant go wrong IMO :P

fitment on those is a bit average in my experience... better off spending a little more for a trust from access autoworks and saving it on install costs!

A little more? Its over double the price :/

+1

I've never had issues with fitment on JJ kits. In fact they are one of the best intercoolers I have used to date for value/quality (not counting PWR) .

We are using them in a couple of 5-600hp cars without issues and fitment was a breeze.

m8 looking at doin the same with the intercooler thing, not the negativity-lol. check heaps out looking at anywhere from $350- $1700.

depends on your brand. will make a HUGE point though cops are starting to smash you hard for fmic if the don't plumb up through originally sub frame holes where standard smic run. been told bye 3 supply and fitting companies now!!! the best i think i have seen is an ARC one but of course it comes at the top of the price range. not massive to get heaps a lag but bigger than smic for more cooling.

here is an ebay link- not that greater range and quality:

and here is one for hybrid:

good luck! and i ain't nowhere near an expert!!!! just some helpful tips i have received! :/

    • Bit of a pity we don't have good images of the back/front of the PCB ~ that said, I found a YT vid of a teardown to replace dicky clock switches, and got enough of a glimpse to realize this PCB is the front-end to a connected to what I'll call PCBA, and as such this is all digital on this PCB..ergo, battery voltage probably doesn't make an appearance here ; that is, I'd expect them to do something on PCBA wrt power conditioning for the adjustment/display/switch PCB.... ....given what's transpired..ie; some permutation of 12vdc on a 5vdc with or without correct polarity...would explain why the zener said "no" and exploded. The transistor Q5 (M33) is likely to be a digital switching transistor...that is, package has builtin bias resistors to ensure it saturates as soon as base threshold voltage is reached (minimal rise/fall time)....and wrt the question 'what else could've fried?' ....well, I know there's an MCU on this board (display, I/O at a guess), and you hope they isolated it from this scenario...I got my crayons out, it looks a bit like this...   ...not a lot to see, or rather, everything you'd like to see disappears down a via to the other side...base drive for the transistor comes from somewhere else, what this transistor is switching is somewhere else...but the zener circuit is exclusive to all this ~ it's providing a set voltage (current limited by the 1K3 resistor R19)...and disappears somewhere else down the via I marked V out ; if the errant voltage 'jumped' the diode in the millisecond before it exploded, whatever that V out via feeds may have seen a spike... ....I'll just imagine that Q5 was switched off at the time, thus no damage should've been done....but whatever that zener feeds has to be checked... HTH
    • I think Fitmit had some, have a look on there (theyre Australian as well)
    • Hah, fair enough! But if you learn with this one you can drive any other OEM manual. No modern luxury features like auto rev-matching or hillstart assist to give you a false sense of confidence. And a heavy car with not that much torque so it stalls easily.
    • Actually, I'd say all three are the automatic option. Just the different trim levels. The manual would be RSFS, no?
