Brand new Wolf 3d plug in and Apexi avcr $1400

I own a 95 gtst

I can get these two for $1400 for both.

Wolf 3D v4 plug and play is in the box unused and

the Apexi avcr is near new 1 month old.

I would like peoples opinion on this set up.

Opposed to using a Power fc.

Can anyone provide proof that the Power Fc is better than the Wolf.

I have done a search on Wolf vs Fc and i am still confussed.

With the Wolf i can do away with the airflow meter.

Benifit or not?

where does the standard AFM start to pose a restriction?

I dont know who told you this, only time it would make much of a difference is when you start pumping out beyond the flow rate of an 80mm pipe (which is the size of the afm). Not too many cars around that do this.

If on the other hand you were to mention the tuning restrictions when your AFM reaches max voltage, that would be a different story.

Darrinspencer, best bet would be to find out who has been tuning cars with Wolf, what sort of results they have had on R33.

Unfortuneately, not every place in australia has the benefit of a tuner who knows how to get the best from a wolf system on R33, alot of places that I have spoken to here in SA dont want to touch it (seem to think its an ecu for rotaries) - whether that be from ignorance, past bad experiences or lack of product knowledge - I dont know, but I would not fit one unless a tuner that I respected told me he was comfortable getting good results with it.

At that price tough, it would be worth buying, you could sell off the ecu and AVCR and make a few dollars.

Either way, the AVCR is a good boost controller.

I have the Wolf in my car, and I have to say it is excellent, but without Steve to tune it then it wouldn't be anywhere near as good. For the price that is an excellent deal. I used to have an Blitz EBC controlling my boost, but now the Wolf does it, and it does a much better job:D

i was mainly refering to the old style AFMs which have the flap type arrangement and are very restrictive, the newer types obviously are not that restrictive, but i imagined there would be an advantage in ditching the AFM in favour of the map sensor in terms of better air flow?

Just looking through the Wolf 3D ecu software manual and it looks like a very well developed software package.

Its very easy to understand with its good layout.

It appears to only handle 4 injector banks.. Is this the total number of injectors that can individually be adjusted otherwise 2 may need to be dubbled up on the same bank/channel?!?!

I don't think peopleare aware that Wolf has dedicated ECUs as direct plugins or have ever looked thru the software.Theirs a lot of inputs and outputs you can use for what ever and it can drive most injectors without fitting risistors plus it can run two maps plus the boost control is not a big dollar option(STD)and the things got a life time warranty(Australian)plus its fast to tune on a PC.The only people that will hate this new range of ECUs is the Power FC dealers.

I contemplated changing to the wolf, but upon investigation here in SA, as already commented, even the local rep knew nothing of the capabilities of the ecu, couldnt tell me if it batch fired or had individual injector control (the website said it did batch fire - others on here have told me no), couldnt tell me what auxilliaries it had, if it could use afm or run closed loop. The tuners here that I have spoken to obviously have no experience with the V4 for skylines either, as they have to a one told me to avoid it and stick with power fc as a better option.

Jedat, I am pretty sure that the afm will flow 500bhp+ without significant restriction, I already have over 350rwhp and have resolution left on my Z32 afm.

Thanks for the advice, as i never actually looked at my skyline AFM internally i imagined them to be somewhat like my Datsun AFM which is an older Nissan unit, and in the past i had gained HP by using a map sensor instead.

"Only a light"? But that's all you need, surely? If there is no knock warning on the Wolf, that on its own would be enough to make me not want to get one. Are you adding in knock detection at some point? How much would it cost existing Wolf users to upgrade to be able to detect knock?

Being able to detect knock I think is one of the most important things for people wanting to do a home/road tune. Not everyone can afford to fork over several hundred bucks to re-tune everytime they do something minor to their car like increase the boost or put in a bigger dump pipe etc.

    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
    • I would say no, why, because my daughter, who also lives in Goulburn, hasn't recommended us going there Pity, as we miss all the German joints around in Sydney, actually, the restaurants are the only thing I really miss about Sydney, and a special mention to Ishibanboshi at Bondi Junction, their Kara-age Don is heart cloggingly deliciousness (always added a special boiled egg...or 2) 😋 
    • Does that German restaurant still exist in the old place out the NW end of Goulburn? When I say "out the NW end of"...I am really being vague. It was 1997 when I was last there, and the only point of reference I can recall is that it was on the opposite side of the main drag from the big merino. And when I say "opposite side of the main drag", I don't mean "on the main drag". It was either a couple of streets back from there, or might have even been out in the sticks a bit further. Was an old farm building or mill or somesuch. And when I say "the big merino" I might actually be thinking of a completely different part of town, because I just looked on maps and the big bugger is not where I remembered him to be! The food was good, consisting largely of various German mystery-meat sausage/loaf things and kartofflen.
    • So while the second sentence is completely correct and the whole point of the conversation, the first sentence bears consideration. If this bloke is just hoping to throw big turbos on and drive it around, because there are no helpful facilities at all in his tropical paradise** then he likely has zero chance of even knowing what the TP is on the last column in the stock maps, let alone know whether the ECU is operating anywhere near it or past it. So the point is very very moot. And, per what I said before, at stock boost on those turbos, you may well be off the end of the map. **I'm just back from Vanuatu, so I know exactly what small Pacific nations can be like wrt paradise without requisite facilities. But it's not even that simple. I put a high flow on my car and had to drive it around without a proper tune because of the lack of opportunity*** to put the bigger AFM and injectors into it to allow it to be tuned. I had to turn the boost down to less than I had before, and back off the boost controller's ramp, because it was exploring parts of the map that it didn't drive in before, and really couldn't access for tuning on the dyno either, and so was pinging. It was still well within the last column, because when I first**** set up the Nistune on the Neo I rescaled all axes of the maps to give some more space to explore. ***Family dyno was broken ****This was 13 years ago, and the TIM thing wasn't a thing then and so TP would definitely grow when pushing past the stock tune's limits.
    • Yep, this bit another local owner. I caught it before putting the transmission back into the car, what I noticed was the pressure plate fingers weren't flat and even. It's more obvious with the pull style clutch because the throwout bearing ring was visibly not flat once everything is put together. Nismo should really update their instructions to call out this specific detail. I'm not even sure the clutch as-shipped orients everything properly.
