Hey All,

I am currently working with an engineering frim in SA looking into getting a MUCH stronger gear set for the N1 oil pumps. These will be just the gears for N1 pump, but made out of some really strong billit steal (or whatever will do the job).

I'm expecting them to cost somewhere around the $400 mark for the gear set alone, but i'll be visiting them again early this comming week to hopefully get a better idea about price and maybe a bit more detail on the materials and delivery time frame.

Depending on intrest i'm looking at a batch of 5 or 10 and will be completed by May the 22nd at the latest.

I'll be happy to ship interstate but will cost you an extra $5-10 (depending on how you want it shipped etc)

let me know if your interested, but i'll need at least 4 other keen people before this can get off the ground

thanks

Luke

Should be a lot of people interested in this if they've seen the price of jap brand pumps lately

Making it as an all inclusive kit to fit a in a stock pump case would be a good idea so buyers dont need to run around and find anymore parts

the pump has been delayed in getting to me, expecting it late this week now =(

but as soon as i get it i'll be down there for the engineers to take a look at it.

N1GTR: what sort of things would you be looking for in a kit?

thanks

I have been looking into this as well, i have had a whole oil pump on the CMM and im going to look at doing a whole pump, with external oil relif etc. The only think i could say with gets for a N1 is that if you look at a tomei pump, the gears are physically much larger diameter, this gives the gear more thickness so its harder to crack them in the "troughs" of the wave pattern.

  • 3 weeks later...

there wasen't a whole lot of interest, so i've put this on the back burner for a little while. i'll see if i can get some free time in the next week or so to head on out to the engineers (takes over an hour to travel there from my place), i'm also intending on taking my stock pump out there for them to have a look at as well - was a shame that the pump didn't arrive while i was on holidays

    • Hope you aren't too sore after that one, might take a day or 2 to notice yet and I guess it is a loooooong drive home. On the bright side, tube frame front end is a thing at superlap, right?

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same. There are plenty of discussions on here about this issue from al the many years of people wanting a cheap/accessible option. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/
    • Yeah dunno why johhny posted that here with no context, just post on FB/insta bro where he put it up?  Laine had an off at T4 during Thurs prac, he's ok, car is less than perfect, they are done for the weekend, he can fill in the rest. Bando also binned it like 100m up the road.
    • I feel there must have been a FB/insta post and the weekend did not start well at all I hope everyone is all okay
