Hey all, Im looking at putting a new cooler in my car.. Cause mine is looking pretty shot..

Im looking at putting a 600x300x100mm in my car.. the turbo will be running around 16psi when its all back together..

Its a R33, Minor mods... Power fc, Cams gears, 3" straight pipes with a varex, And a FMIC thats not looking to healthy

My only problem is i have heard.. with a bigger cooler you loose boost pressure if your running low boost, but my issue is.. what do you call low boost?

And is this just a myth?

I would personally go a 76mm cooler core, 100mm is way to thick. Also if your have a real thick intercooler, its harder from air to pass through and your radiator will recieve less air and then may have overheating problems. Save your money and get a 76mm core, you will probably notice a bit of lag with the 100mm core, because there is more area to fill, it takes longer.

Intercooler core design is the bigger issue - whether it is a tube and fine or bar n plate. Do a search for the differences.

When i was upgrading mine, i looked up and found that the tube and fin design is more effecient at cooling the charged air - however something to do with how it flows through the tank which affects radiator effeciency. 76 or 85mm wouldnt really make that much of a difference.

IMHO - I think that a 76mm tube n fin design would be more effecient then a 85/86mm bar n plate. Im using a tube n fin 85mm HDI fmic and I dont have any overheating issues at all.

Best to do your research before you think of buying anything. Good luck!

Nope....tends to go bang with anything over 14-15psi being constantly pushed through it. Hi-flowed with a steel turbine wheel sure, but ceramic will simply discintegrate & part ways with the turbine housing & disappear into your exhaust somewhere....

Back to topic, get a Greddy, HKS, ARC, Blitz, Nismo, etc....76mm cooler.

If you are on a budget the cooling pro ones from just jap also do the job fine.

If you are not running at least 20PSI or higher then there is not point and a waste of money to buy a 100mm cooler.

As a comparison, many GTR owners out there are pushing 350AWKW with the stock cooler no probs!!!

Why would your car need a 100mm if its pushing no where near that? :P

Check out the SAU sponsers as they look after the members with good pricing.

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
