Looking at buying a HKS Type-1 TT...buy price approx $340... Is this a wise move?...or for the cash should I look at another timer?

Also looking at buying a 5"Tach (Autometer/Autogauge). Nothing too flash...the one i'm looking that's $300. Should I steer clear of the cheaper gauges and wait for something more reputable?

Advice / opinions

340 for a turbo timer, ouch.

I think you should buy a cheaper turbo timer.. 100-150$ and get a better tacho, those autogage series are very budget looking although im sure they perform the same as the more expensive ones, they just dont have a u beaut silver surround and face.

well in that case, i would be about 80/20 in favour of buying it.... as for the monster tacho, i guess its just personal preference, same as brand... all aftermarket gauges that i bought are all autometer and ivee had nothing wrong with them... damn those jap brand ones are damn expensive!!

Sweeet....I'll get the TT when I get back to Brissy:D ...Then ponder the Tach a pay or 2 after that...really all I want is a shift light ($20 compared to $300). I would go for the shift light on its own if it was readily adjustable...can this be one without too much hassle???

Monster tacho in the middle of the dash in an R23 looks sshhhweeettttt :uh-huh:

Otherwise brands like Pivot and Autometer make individual shift light units, I know the autometer ones are still fairly dear though and they take RPM catridges to set the shift point. The Pivot unit looks cool and from memory you can dial in the shift point which is easier.

I know!!! when I went-a-lookin' the guy at the shop had an open one...I didn't think it'd fit ('cause I wanted to mount it on the R/S of the dash) and so he pulled it out - it looked terrible. So I went on looking for places to sit it and the middle of the dash was the sweeetest option...:D

    • Have you flushed the initial fluid yet? It should look like a rainbow unicorn shat glitter into it. 2nd or 3rd fluid change is when you party.
    • all brand new unit from Tomei, fluid, bearings, etc. Tomei said they call it a 1.5 lsd because its 100 percent lock up under acceleration and 50 percent under deacceleration.  as I mentioned I used their fluid, install and their break-in procedure, (alot of figure 8's) but even when driving straight, or even slowly backing out of garage for first time, (at 2 mph) then driving to and from figure 8 parking lot, each tire in the rear would sporadically grab, skip, bounce, shutter and skip, shutter back a force I could feel causing clutch to slip then grab, at any speed. shaking entire car. I removed unit, since I put stock back in and all is fine, via process of elimination, its something with the lsd unit itself. I wasn't going to beat up the entire car more or change anything else for no reason as I had a feeling something in the lsd itself was wrong as everything was fine before this alone was installed and I rechecked over everything else after first time backing out I suspected an issue. I'll probably sadly already need new tires now just from trying to drive it 5 miles and performing the figure 8 break in. but if someone has any ideas I'm all ears
    • Ok thanks..that was my second question if i can somehow bypass this even with Nistune(that is all i have right now...aparat from stock ECU. So with some aftemarket it can by "bypassed" or make it work?  I know there is Link or Haltech (mainly used). We have ECUmaster here so i will gather some info about it.
