there is a really NICE looking evo 8mr for sale on SAU. White. If I had a 3 car garage I'd have got it.

No lard there. Quicker than an R34 I think.

That is a good looking car that MR! Was wanting something with wty though so i can abuse a car instead of worrying!!! lol

Im big on the audi rs4! i drove one about a year ago and highly recommend poping down to the dealer; jst be careful you dont leave a (white) deposit on it....lolz

goodluck with the hunt mate

ps: sorry but i just cant consider an evo as a replacement for your gtr; would be like going from eating beluga caviar to a tub of lard

Im hearing you about the rs4! A friend has one, and i have driven it a few times now, amazing engine/exhaust sound! absolutely intoxicating! Quality of build is second to none, and the seats! oh the seats!!!!

And my girl can drive it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 4 months later...

Its been a while but im back in a GTR..

Well sort of!!

I have an Evo IX which is a brillant reliable track/daily drive,

but i did miss the sound of the RB26. Fortunately for me my best friend has just bought arguably one of the best R32 v-spec GTR's in Oz! whats more, he wants me to drive it on the track!

to say its quick is an gross understatment! cant wait to let it scare me at QR!

Good to be indirectly back!

Hey mate,

long time no speak.... I have had the Evo about 5 months now, found one done 19,000klms in WA of all places. Its a blue Performance pack. Have just done a few minor mods. Ezy flash. have a spare set of BBS with Re55's for track and run big neg camber -4 degree front and -2 rear.

Having had both i have to say this, the GTR's are more fun to drive, but on the track the Evo's reliability/agility is a massive massive plus. they are such a tough thing. This GTR im driving on the 6th of Oct is in another league though, its trully an amazingly built high hp car.

Here are a couple of pics of the Evo though.

Looks great mate, glad to hear your enjoying it!

you think a gtr is more fun to drive? the evo would be nice n light, nimble n great chassi; how's response? get that gut thrust that the gtr's torque gives you?

With those slicks im sure it makes you look like schuey on the track lolz; ive heard the gearbox is a weakpoint in the evo, is that true or am i jst hearing things?

let us know how ur mates GTR feels to drive bro

-Be safe n take care

What i miss about the GTR which admittedly doesnt help lap times that much, was the power oversteer on exit. This seldom happens on the Evo. I do have to say though the EVO's turn is amazingly good.

Its surprising, just with the re-flash the car puts out 190awkw. A good friend just fitted an APC motorsport logic exhaust to his EVo and running the other tune set we all have in the ezy-flash, he made 213awkw. That car is actually very quick, power to weight works in the Evo's favour.

As for the gearbox, alot of people that are up over 250awks do opt for the 5 speed rs gearbox over the 6. Having said that there are many 260-300kw cars that have no problems with the 6 speed. I dont see that being an issue! The best part though is the 5 year wty, of which mine has near on 3 years left. So that takes the worry out of any potential issues anyway.

Will get some pics soon of the 32.

    • Just trying to get my head around this. At 5psi of boost, you turn on your wmi pump, and then you're using a 3000cc injector, to allow flow upto the actual engine, where you have your 6x200cc injectors and a 500cc injector. If the above is correct, what advantage are you obtaining by having the 3000cc injector blocking flow, is this just incase a line breaks between that injector and the motor you can stop flow immediately? Or are the 6x200cc and 500cc less injectors and just spray nozzle?
    • Welcome! New member myself, but I had an R33 back in 2002. Best advice I could give, based on my experience: if you're running the factory turbo, be very conservative with boost. I made the mistake of just fiddling around with the boost controller and cranking the boost for fun, and the end result was my intake pipes popping off frequently from the constant deluge of oil that was being blown into the recirc by the stressed-out turbo, which itself was siphoning oil from the engine and farting it out both sides of its centre bearing (or something to that effect). If I could do it all again, I would have gotten a new turbo and had a tune dialled in professionally and then just left it alone! Funny you mention the metal shavings in the gearbox, as I had the same thing - the probe plug (magnetic drain plug, essentially) would come out caked with shavings. At least it was doing its job. Not sure if that's just sacrificial wear and part of the deal, or if my gearbox was shagged, but I wasn't abusing it. Enjoy the R33 - they're a dying breed, and if they weren't $35k+ on CarSales in Queensland, I might have picked up one of those again, instead of the 370GT I own now (though I'm loving the 370GT, that big 3.7L V6 just hits different).
    • Howdy folks. I owned an R33 back in 2002, which was thoroughly beyond my capacity (financially speaking) to maintain/insure, so we parted ways in 2004. Fast forward 21 years (to literally yesterday, in fact) and I'm now the proud owner of a 2007 V36 370GT. I'm happily surprised by how much power the VQ37VHR makes, compared to the RB25DET, considering the latter is turbocharged. I had planned to add a turbo at some point but I'm on the fence about whether I'll even need it (though I do love the sudden onset of extra torque). Any other 370GT owners around the traps, I'd love to hear about your experiences with this car (good and bad).
    • Perhaps the answer is... more jacks!* *proper jacks must be used.
    • I NEVER think about using a scissor jack unless there is absolutely no other alternative. f**king things are dangerous, annoying and stupid.
